๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณChinese auto regulators may soon ban steering yokes, mandate physical buttons for key functions

Chinaโ€™s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has published a draft of mandatory safety standards, including a proposal that bans steering yokes outright. These safety standards are set to take effect on January 1, 2027.

Updated crash safety standards on the steering column are a significant part of the regulations - specifically, aligning steering impact forces with international regulations and lowering horizontal impact force to 11,110 newtons. Chinese officials also take issue with the steering yoke due to internal data that claims 46% of driver injuries originate with the steering column. Moreover, Chinese regulators are taking aim at heavily screen-based interiors from brands like Tesla and Xiaomi. The proposed regulations clarify that turn signals, hazard lights, gear selection, and emergency calling must be controlled fixed buttons or switches with a minimum surface size of 10mm by 10mm.

Much like the process in the U.S., Chinese regulators will take public comment on the proposed changes until April 13. Once implemented, all new models seeking approval will need to immediately comply, while existing models will get 13 months to comply.

๐Ÿ’ฑ With SWIFTโ€™s ISO 20022 mappings at hand, both Stellar & XRP edge out traditional competition: whoโ€™s got the upper hand? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿ”ฅ For Ripple (XRP), SWIFT integration potential stems from Ripple being a member of the ISO 20022 Standards Body, so the influence messaging definition & token identifies is more direct rather than subliminal. Collecting over 300 traditional banking partnerships so far, XRPโ€™s SWIFT integration buzz became even bigger once SWIFT announced XRP & HBAR testing on their rails. The findings suggest that Rippleโ€™s Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) complies with the Cross-Border Payments and Reporting Plus requirement sheet from SWIFT.

๐Ÿ”ฅ For Stellar Lumens (XLM), the story is a bit different. Stellarโ€™s CEO Denelle Dixon recently acknowledged the need for interoperability between blockchain & traditional banking institutions, focusing on a tighter XLM-SWIFT alignment starting from 2026. The $24 billion Real World Asset (RWA) markets are likely to play a key role in that plan. However, Stellar Lumens (XLM) puts less emphasis on high trading volumes, garnering hundreds of millions a day in comparison to XRPโ€™s $4-5 billion on average. XLMโ€™s chain is used to tokenize some massive funds like Franklin Templeton, test various CBDCs & is comparatively cheaper in transaction fees than Rippleโ€™s XRP Ledger.

In a way, Stellar Lumens (XLM) excels XRP in SWIFTโ€™s context due to cost-effectiveness & inclusion of various digital assets, including lesser-known stablecoins personally-tailored for institutional investors. On the other hand, XRP might be exactly what SWIFTโ€™s been craving for - a solid track record of handling high cross-border volume & instant settlement.

๐Ÿ’ธ AI companies have bought out Western Digital's storage capacity for 2026

According to Western Digital (WD), one of the world's biggest hard drive manufacturers, the company has already sold out of its storage capacity for 2026. WD CEO Irving Tan shared that most of the storage space has been allocated to its "top seven customers." Three of these companies already have agreements with Western Digital for 2027 and even 2028. ๐Ÿคฏ

"We're pretty much sold out for calendar 2026," said Tan on the company's recent quarterly earnings call.

Western Digital faces a severe HDD capacity shortage as AI and enterprise demand surge, driving prices to a two-year high. With cloud revenue at 89% and consumer share at 5%, WD's storage focus shifts to cost-effective HDDs for massive exabyte-scale data centers, highlighting critical industry supply constraints.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ“น ByteDance says it will add safeguards to Seedance 2.0 following Hollywood backlash

Chinese tech giant ByteDance has said it will strengthen safeguards on a new AI video-making tool, following complaints of copyright theft from entertainment giants. The tool, Seedance 2.0, enables users to create realistic videos based on text prompts. However, viral videos shared online appear to show copyrighted characters and celebrity likenesses, raising intellectual property concerns in the U.S.

โ€œWe are taking steps to strengthen current safeguards as we work to prevent the unauthorized use of intellectual property and likeness by users,โ€ a company spokesperson said in a statement shared with CNBC.

ByteDanceโ€™s response comes after receiving backlash and stern warnings from Hollywood groups like the Motion Picture Association (MPA), a trade association representing major Hollywood studios including Netflix, Paramount Skydance, Sony, Universal, Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ”‹ Chinaโ€™s breakthrough lithium battery defies deep freeze, retains 85% capacity at โ€“29ยฐF

Scientists at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences have built a new liquid-solid-state lithium battery that continues to deliver power in deep-freeze conditions.

In laboratory tests, the cell retained more than 85% of its usable capacity after 8 hours at โ€“29ยฐF, a range where conventional batteries typically suffer dramatic performance losses. The battery architecture combines specially formulated low-temperature electrolytes with a liquid-solid functional separator and an AI-driven power-management system that optimizes ion transport and energy delivery in extreme cold.

Targeting real-world use in harsh climates, the technology has already been demonstrated in drones for inspection, logistics, and emergency communications, as well as in robots designed to operate at high altitudes or during cold seasons. If the technology can be scaled up successfully, it may offer a path toward electric vehicles that remain dependable in extreme cold. ๐Ÿฅถ

๐Ÿ›ซ The next-generation nuclear reactor has been successfully unloaded from the C-17 and left Hill Air Force Base

The U.S. Departments of Energy and Defense transported a nuclear microreactor by C-17 cargo plane from California to Utah on Sunday, marking the first such airlift.

On May 23, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to deploy advanced nuclear reactor technologies for national security purposes. The reactor, built by Valar Atomics, was flown without nuclear fuel to demonstrate how nuclear power could be quickly deployed for military and civilian use.

This is a historic milestone for President Trumpโ€™s nuclear agenda. This is the next chapter for U.S. energy. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

๐Ÿ”ฌScientists develop living building material that grows and self-heals over time

The Canada Pavilion at the 2025 Venice Biennale showcases Picoplanktonics, a 3D-printed architectural installation embedded with living cyanobacteria. These organisms capture carbon through photosynthesis and mineral precipitation, slowly reinforcing the structure. Laboratory studies show cumulative carbon sequestration over 400 days, while on-site caretakers maintain precise conditions for survival.

The printed structures within Picoplanktonics represent 4 years of interdisciplinary research conducted by Canadian architect and bio-designer Andrea Shin Ling and her collaborators in material science, biology, robotics, and computational design at ETH Zurich.

The project explores living materials for sustainable architecture, demonstrating passive carbon capture, self-strengthening structures, and the potential of co-creating built environments with biological systems, although large-scale impact remains a future challenge. The team indicates that scaling up the material to a level that could significantly reduce atmospheric COโ‚‚ concentrations would necessitate much larger quantities.

Could buildings of the future become self-sustaining environmental systems? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿš— Ford's new 2028 electric truck will be a fully modern EV for $30,000

Ford's first product on its Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform will be a mid-size electric pickup truck. It will also be its first-ever modern, ground-up, dedicated EV. The design should emerge this year, and Ford said first sales will be in 2027. Ford briefed some images of the project.

An official name and on-sale date have not yet been announced, it may possibly be called the Ranchero. It draws on the experience of a staff new to Ford, from EV startups and motorsports, who worked in a Skunkworks team to develop it.

Ford will use prismatic lithium iron-phosphate (LFP) cells for the battery. The team sculpted a roofline profile that shed air in a teardrop shape right past the bed, meaning the UEV truck is more than 15% lower in drag than any pickup sold today. Another example of lowering drag: to cut the size and weight of the door mirror by more than 20%, Ford combined the motors for glass adjustment and mirror folding into one. The reductions in frontal area and mass provided another 1.5 miles of battery range.
