🇺🇸🇮🇷 US sending world’s biggest aircraft carrier to Middle East as tensions with Iran increase

The U.S. is sending the world’s largest aircraft carrier to the Middle East, joining the USS Abraham Lincoln and its strike group already positioned in the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) area, as tensions between Washington and Tehran ratchet up.

The aircraft carrier U.S.S. Gerald R. Ford and its escort ships, which are currently in the Caribbean, are being sent to the Middle East as the Trump administration beefs up its military presence near Iran, President Trump confirmed Friday. The president told reporters he dispatched the warship “in case we don’t make a deal, we’ll need it.”

🇳🇪🇫🇷 The Republic of Niger announces mobilization to “Prepare for War with France”

The Republic of Niger has announced a mobilization to prepare for entering what it called a ‘war with France.’ The statement was made by General Amadou Abdramane, Chief of Staff to the country’s leader Abdourahamane Tchiani, during a rally.

"We should not beat around the bush: We are going to enter into war with France. Everything that has brought us to this state of insecurity is caused by France," he said, alleging that France "wants to bring us back at any cost to where it built its prosperity."

The Republic of Niger regularly accuses France of attempting to destabilize the country. Tchiani has also accused French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as the leaders of Benin and Côte d’Ivoire - Patrice Talon and Alassane Ouattara - of supporting Islamist terrorist groups. According to him, these countries were behind the attack on Niamey Airport at the end of January 2026.

🔬Scientists grew mini human spinal cords, then made them repair after injury

Scientists have taken a major step toward treating spinal cord injuries that cause paralysis. In lab dishes, researchers at Northwestern University grew tiny organoids of the human spinal cord. Then, they injured the samples and administered a treatment that helped the tissue repair and regenerate.

"We decided to develop two different injury models in a human spinal cord organoid and test our therapy to see if the results resembled what we previously saw in the animal model. After applying our therapy, the glial scar faded significantly to become barely detectable, and we saw neurites growing, resembling the axon regeneration we saw in animals. This is validation that our therapy has a good chance of working in humans."- said biomedical engineer Samuel Stupp.

Spinal cord injuries often lead to paralysis because damaged nerve cells in the central nervous system regenerate poorly. This is partly due to suppression mechanisms that impede the growth of new axons and the emergence of scar tissue that is difficult for nerve fibers to penetrate.

🇺🇸🪖The Pentagon wants to raw dog the latest AI models on classified systems

Pentagon officials are pushing to roll out AI systems across all classification levels, potentially opening the door to more sensitive applications like mission planning or weapons targeting. Military officials argue they should be allowed to deploy AI however they see fit, as long as it complies with U.S. law.

The push comes as OpenAI announced that it has made a customized version of ChatGPT available through the War Department’s AI platform, GenAI.mil. The platform, which launched in December, is used by roughly 3 million civilian and military personnel and already includes tailored versions of tools from xAI and Google’s Gemini.

🇺🇸 President Trump announces an END to Barack Obama’s climate alarmist “endangerment finding” regulations

President Donald Trump just delivered a knockout punch to Obama-era climate hysteria. The Trump administration finalized rules repealing the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) endangerment finding - that dubious 2009 determination claiming six greenhouse gases threaten human health under the Clean Air Act.

“You’re going to get a better car, you’re going to get a car that starts easier, a car that works better for a lot less money. American families will save over $2,400 for a new vehicle," - said Lee Zeldin, current Administrator of the U.S. EPA.

Thank you President Trump! 🙏❤️💪

🇻🇪🇺🇸Venezuela oil sales top $1 billion, funds won’t go to Qatar account anymore

Venezuela oil revenue will no longer be deposited in an account in Qatar, Energy Secretary Chris Wright told in an interview this week.

“An account was set up in Qatar, controlled by the U.S. government the whole time, to land that money in and then send the money from there down to Venezuela. Now we have an account at the U.S. Treasury. The money won’t go to Qatar anymore,” - Wright said.

Chris Wright told that revenue from Venezuelan oil sales now tops $1 billion. The U.S. has short-term agreements to sell another $5 billion of the country’s crude over the next few months. The oil has gone to U.S. refineries and Europe so far.

"Oil is starting to flow, and large amounts of money, unseen for many years, will soon be greatly helping the people of Venezuela," - Trump posted on Truth Social.

🇨🇳 China to remove tariffs on most African imports from May 1, expands zero-duty policy across continent

China will remove tariffs on imports from almost all African countries starting May 1, Chinese President Xi Jinping said, in a move expected to deepen trade and economic engagement between Beijing and the continent. China already operates a zero-tariff policy for imports from 33 African countries, but Beijing had announced last year that it would expand the policy to all 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic relations.

Under the expanded framework, zero levies will apply to all African nations except Eswatini, which maintains diplomatic relations with Taiwan. The expansion of tariff-free access is expected to strengthen China’s economic influence in Africa while boosting trade flows and market access for African exporters.

🚀 NASA will now allow astronauts to bring their smartphones into space

NASA astronauts are now able to take their smartphones into space - a historic first for the agency. NASA administrator Jared Isaacman announced the news in a post on X, sharing that astronauts on the Crew-12 and Artemis II missions will be the first to take their phones beyond Earth.

Astronauts can upload the photos to devices on the spacecraft, and then send those photos to NASA via satellite and encoded data. NASA can then decode the data and share the images with the world via social media and public forums. The new policy will allow space crews to capture more personalized images while on missions.

🇺🇸🇪🇺U.S. and European interests are ‘intertwined,’ Secretary of State Rubio says

The U.S. has no intention of abandoning its deep alliance with Europe and wants the region to succeed, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday.

“We care deeply about your future and ours. We want Europe to be strong. We believe that Europe must survive, because the two great wars of the last century serve, for us, as history’s great reminder, that ultimately, our destiny is, and will always be, intertwined with yours,” Rubio told the Munich Security Conference (MSC).

The U.S.’s top diplomat told the gathering of European leaders that American leadership has succeeded in resolving thorny issues such as the Israel-Gaza conflict and made progress in ending Russia’s war with Ukraine which multilateral organizations including the U.N. have so far failed to.

🏦 Microsoft explores superconducting power to boost AI data centers

Microsoft Corporation is considering utilizing superconducting power lines in its data centers. This would mean expansion of its huge U.S. build-out of the server warehouses by enhancing energy efficiency, the company said. This plan to develop giant data centers across the U.S. has been slowed by the national aging power system and electricity supply limitations.

“The technology helps us scale power density without expanding our physical footprint,” stated Husam Alissa, an executive at Microsoft’s CO+I CTO Office. “It can also help us reduce the size of power transmission infrastructure and lower community impact.”

🇺🇳UN approves 40-member scientific panel on the impact of artificial intelligence over US objections

The U.N. General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to approve a 40-member global scientific panel on the impacts and risks of AI, with the US strongly objecting. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has described it as the first fully independent global scientific body dedicated to bridging the knowledge gap in AI and assessing its real-world economic and social impacts.

“In a world where AI is racing ahead,” he s said, “this panel will provide what’s been missing - rigorous, independent scientific insight that enables all member states, regardless of their technological capacity, to engage on an equal footing.”

The vote in the 193-member assembly was 117-2, with the US and Paraguay voting “no” and Tunisia and Ukraine abstaining. America’s allies in Europe, Asia and elsewhere voted in favor along with Russia, China and many developing countries. U.S. Mission counselor Lauren Lovelace called the panel “a significant overreach of the U.N.’s mandate and competence” and said “AI governance is not a matter for the U.N. to dictate.

🇺🇸🇮🇷Donald Trump says regime change ‘the best thing that could happen’ in Iran

US President Donald Trump said that a change in power in Iran "would be the best thing that could happen" as he confirmed the deployment of a second aircraft carrier group to the Middle East. The US president is hoping to strike a deal with Iran to curb its nuclear programme, but has warned of severe consequences if one does not come through.

“For 47 years, they’ve been talking and talking and talking,” he told reporters after visiting troops at Fort Bragg. “In the meantime, we’ve lost a lot of lives while they talk.”

🇳🇱Dutch lawmakers advance 36% capital gains tax on crypto

The Dutch House of Representatives voted to pass the Actual Return in Box 3 Act (Wet werkelijk rendement box 3), a reform that will tax residents at a flat rate of 36% on the actual returns they earn from savings and investments, effective January 1, 2028. The proposal cleared the chamber comfortably, receiving 93 votes, well above the 75 required to move forward, according to the official tally.

If adopted, the measure would apply broadly. Bank savings, crypto holdings, most equities and returns generated from interest-bearing instruments would all fall under the levy. Notably, the tax would be assessed regardless of whether investors actually sell their assets, meaning unrealized gains could still be taxed.

Parliament also approved an amendment shortening the law’s review period from five years to three, intended to enable faster corrections if the rollout encounters problems. The bill still requires Senate approval before a planned 2028 implementation. Critics warn the proposal could trigger investor relocation and capital outflows.

🇮🇳India doubles down on state-backed venture capital, approving $1.1B fund

India has cleared a $1.1 billion state-backed venture capital program that will channel government money into startups through private investors, doubling down on its effort to finance high-risk areas such as AI, advanced manufacturing and others. The program is structured as a fund of funds, a common venture capital model in which governments back startups indirectly by committing capital to private investment firms.

The approval comes just ahead of the government-backed India AI Impact Summit, where global AI companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Nvidia are set to participate alongside Indian corporates such as Reliance Industries and Tata Group.
