Li reports that the newly identified compound blocked the gene’s activity in both cell samples and laboratory mice. In the mouse experiments, the molecule worked without causing harmful side effects. The research is still at an early stage.

This discovery could eventually point to a new way to treat this aggressive brain cancer. Glioblastoma grows quickly and is almost always fatal. After diagnosis, average survival is about 15 months, and more than 14,000 Americans are diagnosed each year.

Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun said she had made it clear to Washington that the country’s semiconductor ecosystem, built over decades, could not simply be relocated. Taiwan’s international expansion, including its investments in the U.S., is predicated on the notion that the industry remains’ rooted in Taiwan and continues to expand domestic investments.

However these comments push back against onshoring targets outlined by U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in a CNBC interview in January, shortly after the latest U.S.-Taiwan trade agreement. Lutnick said he wanted 40% of Taiwan’s entire chip supply chain to shift to the U.S. within President Donald Trump’s ongoing term.

Under the deal, the Taiwanese government promised $250 billion in direct investments by its tech companies, with an additional $250 billion in credit provided for them to expand their production capacity in the U.S. Washington on its part lowered levies on most goods from Taiwan to 15% from 20%, waived tariffs on generic drugs and ingredients, aircraft components and natural resources unavailable domestically, and promised higher quotas for tariff-free exports of Taiwanese chips to the U.S.

Meta has announced that it’s breaking ground on a new 1 gigawatt data center project in Lebanon, Indiana, which Meta says “represents an investment of over $10 billion in data center infrastructure and the surrounding community,” one of its largest infrastructure investments to date. According to U.S. power grid operators, that is the equivalent of powering about 800,000 homes.

The project is Meta’s 30th data center initiative in the U.S., with several launching over the past year, as the company continues to push towards the next stage of AI development.

The US labor board said SpaceX should instead be regulated under the Railway Labor Act, which governs labor relations at railroad and airline companies.

In January 2024, an NLRB regional director alleged in a complaint that SpaceX illegally fired eight employees. The complaint sought reinstatement of the employees, back pay, and letters of apology to the fired employees.

SpaceX responded by suing the NLRB, claiming the labor agency’s structure is unconstitutional. But a different issue SpaceX raised later - that it is a common carrier, like a rail company or airline - is what compelled the NLRB to drop its case. US regulators ultimately decided that SpaceX should be treated as a “common carrier by air” and “a carrier by air transporting mail” for the government.
