🇲🇽 Gunmen open fire at football match in Mexico, killing at least 11.
Gunmen opened fire at a football match in central Mexico on Sunday, killing at least 11 people and wounding 12, in the latest outburst of violence in Guanajuato state. The gunmen arrived at the end of a match. Ten people died at the scene and one died later at a hospital. A woman and a child were among 12 people injured in what César Prieto, the mayor of the town of Salamanca, called a “regrettable and cowardly” attack. He said the attack was part of a crimewave in the city and appealed to the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, for help to control the violence.
The state prosecutor’s office said it was investigating and coordinating with federal authorities to reinforce security in the area. Guanajuato has been for many years one of the most violent regions in the country, owing to turf wars between rival cartels.
Condolences to the victims.😢 🙏

🇨🇳 China gives green light to importing first batch of Nvidia's H200 AI chips.
China has approved its first batch of Nvidia’s H200 AI chips for import, marking a shift in position as China seeks to balance its AI needs against spurring domestic development.
The H200 is Nvidia’s second most powerful AI chip. The approval covers several hundred thousand H200 chips and was granted during Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang’s visit to China this week. The first batch of approvals has been allocated primarily to three major Chinese internet companies, with other enterprises now joining a queue for subsequent approvals.

The European Union and India have announced a landmark trade deal.
"We did it, we delivered the mother of all deals," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at a media briefing in Delhi. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the pact "historic".
It will allow free trade of goods between the bloc of 27 European states and the world's most populous country, which together make up nearly 25% of global gross domestic product and a market of two billion people. The deal will see a number of huge tariff cuts across a range of goods and services, and a joint security partnership. Also the deal with the E.U. may help labour-intensive sectors in India such as shrimp farming, textiles, gems and jewellery. #BRICS

🇰🇵 North Korea's Kim says upcoming party congress will unveil plans to bolster nuclear deterrent.
North Korea performed a live-fire drill of an upgraded large-caliber multiple rocket launcher system in the presence of Kim on Tuesday. The test launch was meant to enhance the effectiveness of the country's “strategic deterrent.” KCNA said the launcher system's mobility and strike accuracy have been improved.
Experts say North Korea’s large-sized rocket launchers blur the boundaries between artillery systems and ballistic missiles because they can create their own thrust and are guided during delivery. North Korea has said some of these systems are capable of delivering nuclear warheadsw.

🇺🇸 White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday said President Donald Trump "absolutely" supports the Second Amendment rights of "law-abiding" citizens
@QSIMedia
”There has been no greater supporter or defender of the right to bear arms than President Donald J. Trump,” - Karoline Leavitt said. “Americans do not have a constitutional right to impede lawful immigration enforcement operations, and any gun owner knows that when you are carrying a weapon, when you are bearing arms and confronted by law enforcement, you are raising the assumption of risk and the risk of force being used against you. That’s unfortunately what took place on Saturday.”

🇮🇷 Trump warns Iran 'time is running out' for nuclear deal as US military builds up in Gulf
Donald Trump has warned Iran that "time is running out" to negotiate a deal on its nuclear programme following the steady build-up of US military forces in the Gulf. The US president said a "massive Armada" was "moving quickly, with great power, enthusiasm, and purpose" towards Iran, referring to a large US naval force.
In response, Iran's mission to the UN said Tehran "stands ready for dialogue based on mutual respect and interests", but if pushed, it wrote in all capitals, it would defend itself and "respond like never before". Iran insists its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful and has repeatedly denied accusations by the US and its allies that it is seeking to develop nuclear weapons.

A lot of that going to working families based on the president's signature policies. No tax and tips, no tax and overtime, no tax and Social Security, deductibility of auto loans for American made cars. So it's going to be a big refund season!"

Britain's Prime Minister Keir Starmer and China's President Xi Jinping hailed a reset of ties on Thursday, pledging to build an economic partnership with deals including a major investment by AstraZeneca. The British premier held up a plan by AstraZeneca to pioneer new medicines by investing $15 billion in its Chinese operations as proof of the benefits that could flow to both countries.
"China is a vital player on the global stage, and it's vital that we build a more sophisticated relationship where we can identify opportunities to collaborate, but of course, also allow a meaningful dialogue on areas where we disagree," Starmer told Xi at the start of their meeting.
The British leader told reporters he had made progress in discussions with Beijing to reduce tariffs on whisky, and announced a new agreement whereby Britons visiting China for less than 30 days would no longer need a visa. #BRICS

President Donald Trump’s tax legislation includes a provision called “Trump Accounts,” which gives $1,000 to every newborn if their parents open an account.
That money is then invested in the stock market by private firms, and the child can access the money when they turn 18 and can only use it for specific purposes, such as paying tuition, starting a business or making a down payment on a home. After a parent opens an account, the U.S. Treasury will contribute $1,000 for newborns. Private banks and brokerages will manage the money, which must be invested in U.S. equity index funds that track the stock market and charge the accounts no more than 0.10% in annual fees.
To qualify for the $1,000 seed money, a baby must be a U.S. citizen, have a Social Security number and be born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028. Any parent can open an account for a qualifying child, regardless of the parent’s immigration status.

"I will say that I am probably the president's number one fan, and that's not going to change," - she said. “He has a lot of force behind him, and God is protecting him. Amen?”
Minaj has announced that she will contribute between $150,000 and $300,000 to fund her fans’ Trump Accounts. The president seemed glad to have the support of the "greatest and most successful female rapper in history" and thanked her for donating.

🧬AI model from Google's DeepMind reads recipe for life in DNA
Google DeepMind has introduced AlphaGenome, an AI tool capable of interpreting long DNA strands and predicting the impact of mutations on biological processes. This advancement could revolutionize treatments by enabling the design of synthetic DNA that activates or deactivates specific genes, paving the way for personalized medicine and gene modification.
AlphaGenome can create new DNA sequences, allowing for targeted therapy in specific tissues while avoiding effects in the rest of the body. The model could help scientists discover why subtle differences in our DNA put us at risk of conditions such as high blood pressure, dementia and obesity. It could also dramatically accelerate our understanding of genetic diseases and cancer.

🌎 US leads record global surge in gas-fired power driven by AI demands, with big costs for the climate.
This year is set to shatter the annual record for new gas power additions around the world, with projects in development expected to grow existing global gas capacity by nearly 50%, a report by Global Energy Monitor (GEM) found. The US is at the forefront of a global push for gas that is set to escalate over the next five years, after tripling its planned gas-fired capacity in 2025. Much of this new capacity will be devoted to the vast electricity needs of AI, with a third of the 252 gigawatts of gas power in development set to be situated on site at datacenters.
The gas projects in development in the US will, if all completed, cause 12.1bn tonnes in carbon dioxide emissions over their lifetimes, which is double the current annual emissions coming from all sources in the US. All of this new gas energy will cause a major leap in planet-heating emissions, amid ongoing warnings from scientists that fossil fuels must be rapidly phased out to avoid pushing the planet towards even worse heatwaves, droughts, floods and other climate impacts.
