Locals in a rural area of California were recently startled to see dazzlingly bright light shining down from nearby mountains at night, illuminating a swathe of the desert below. The night-time light demonstration was conducted by a US startup called Reflect Orbital, which has an almost sci-fi aim to launch 50,000 satellites into space in the next decade to illuminate parts of the world at night.
In July, the FCC approved Reflect Orbital’s proposal to launch an initial demonstration satellite next year, which will orbit the Earth and, via a 59ft-diameter mirror, reflect sunlight in 3-mile-wide beams in strengths from moonlight up to the brightness of the sun at noon.
This provided, the company said, a realistic simulation of one of the benefits of this technology: to help search-and-rescue teams and other emergency responders at night. Other planned uses include bathing crops in sunlight, replacing broken streetlights and even providing solar power for military operations, all summoned by the tap of a button on an app.

C2FO, the world’s largest platform for working capital, and Ripple announced an initiative to bring the financing and settlement activity supporting the new C2FO Instant Pay solution™onto the XRP Ledger (XRPL).
Today, C2FO Early Pay™ programs, including C2FO Dynamic Discounting™ and C2FO Dynamic Supply Chain Finance™, have already helped businesses access more than 520 billion in working capital through the accelerated payment of approved invoices. But even when an invoice is paid early, they can still wait several days for funds to move through legacy bank settlement infrastructure.
Purpose-built for institutional use, RLUSD has grown to more than $2.5 billion in market capitalization, with more than $1 billion issued on XRPL. XRPL settles transactions in 3–5 seconds at a fraction of a cent, operating 24/7.
“We’ve spent years building a platform that gives businesses more information and control over their working capital. The next opportunity is to make the financial infrastructure behind our marketplace as efficient and connected as the experience we’ve created for customers,” — said Ragui Selwanes, President & COO Americas at C2FO.

🌌 Supercomputer Taps 15,000 GPUs To Rebuild The Early Universe
Scientists have unveiled a supercomputer simulation named Lumina, which is the most detailed window yet into the first two billion years of our universe.
When trying to model the birth of the universe, computational cosmologists are usually forced to choose between simulating vast volumes of space at a coarse resolution or zooming into tiny patches with intricate detail.
Lumina changes all that: spanning a cubical region measuring roughly 1.6 billion light-years across, the simulation tracks ordinary matter, dark matter, and radiation across all that space while retaining enough spatial resolution to model individual galaxies, stellar nurseries, and their surrounding gas flows.
Bringing this map life was an international research team that utilized the Frontier supercomputer located at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. Harnessing more than 15,000 GPUs and 100,000 CPU cores, the simulation begins roughly 45 million years after the Big Bang, in the dark ages. Here, gravity slowly pulls tiny fluctuations in matter together, forming thick over-densities for the first generation of galaxies and stellar clusters.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said digital assets could help strengthen the U.S. dollar's global dominance as technology becomes an increasingly important source of American economic influence.
Speaking Tuesday at Ripple's Swell conference with CEO Brad Garlinghouse, Bessent argued that the power behind the world's reserve currencies during history derived from military strength, but it’s increasingly shifting toward technological leadership.
"We will keep our military umbrella, but I think more and more it's becoming a technology umbrella," — Bessent said.
"I think that digital assets are going to be no different, and we are going to win in the digital asset stack, and that's gonna continue to fortify the [U.S.] dollar," — he said.

Pontoro Inc. today announced the launch of the first Pontoro Automated Liquidity Pool (ALP), a single investment pool that pairs liquid money market assets with private market funds and uses rules-based pricing to manage liquidity between them, on the Stellar network.
The ALP is designed to supply that missing liquidity layer, and to connect the pieces already in place into functioning market infrastructure. 🧩
"Private markets have engineered nearly every layer of their infrastructure except one: liquidity," — said Antonio Vitti, CEO and Co-Founder of Pontoro.
"Tokenization has given private assets better rails. A market also needs capital, a price, and a mechanism for managing that capital as conditions change. That is the missing layer the ALP is designed to provide.🚀
With a group of institutions contributing across the investment and operating stack, we can now move that idea from architecture to a live pilot."

Angeion Group, the law firm administering the $16.1 million class action settlement over the June 2025 cyberattack against Columbia, emailed University students on Tuesday with instructions on how to claim their share of the settlement. Claims are due Jan. 21, 2027.
In June 2025, a hacker stole the contact information, Social Security numbers, health data, and financial aid data of around 870,000 individuals, including Columbia applicants, affiliates, and nonaffiliated prospective students. The University created the $16.1 million fund to pay claimants as part of a deal to settle a class action lawsuit filed on behalf of individuals whose data was stolen.
Affected individuals can claim benefits of up to $8,500 in value by submitting a claim form on Angeion’s dedicated case website.

Archax, the UK/EU/US regulated digital asset platform, today announced €GOVY, a euro-denominated version of its perpetual tokenised government bill product, on the Stellar network.
€GOVY is designed to give treasurers, asset managers and other eligible institutions 24/7 on-chain exposure to short-dated euro-area government debt through a single token. Because the maturing bills roll automatically, holders do not need to redeem or reinvest at each maturity date. It joins $GOVY, launched in June 2026 on Ethereum, Hedera and the Stellar network.
Graham Rodford, CEO and co-founder of Archax, comments:
“Institutions don’t run on one currency, and their collateral shouldn’t either. With the launch of €GOVY, a treasurer will be able to hold tokenised government exposure in dollars, sterling and euros – earning yield and ready to deploy at any hour of any day.
Launching on the Stellar network, at Meridian, also reflects how important the network has been to GOVY from day one.”🚀

Most blockchains process transactions in one strict, global order. Some have found ways to run unrelated transactions in parallel, but the moment two transactions touch the same state or require the same data, they fall back into line. Adding hardware doesn't change that — extra machines sit idle while transactions wait their turn.
We're just getting started, and we want you to test it, push it, and show us what you'd build if compute stopped being a limit.
Our mission is equitable access to the global financial system. Not just the one we have today, but the one we'll have in fifty years. Serving ten billion people, and the billions of AI agents that will transact on their behalf, will take far more compute than any blockchain has today.
