📹 Flock Wants the Most Detailed Map of Its Surveillance Cameras Taken Offline

A newly published map has revealed just how extensive Flock Safety’s surveillance network may be. While the company has said it operates more than 120,000 cameras across the U.S., cybersecurity researcher Joshua Michael mapped more than 170,000 cameras and over 130,000 additional devices using location data from Flock’s own systems.

The map also includes devices such as acoustic sensors and equipment connecting third-party cameras, giving a much broader picture of the network. The data reportedly came from a vulnerability that Michael discovered in 2025, allowing access to Flock device locations through publicly exposed information.

After the map was published, Doppel, an “AI-native social engineering defense platform” working on Flock’s behalf, filed a trademark infringement complaint, arguing that the site’s use of “FLOCK SAFETY” was unauthorized and could cause confusion or harm. Doppel requested that the site be taken down, adding another layer to the debate over transparency around large-scale surveillance networks.

🇬🇧 UK Wants More Homes Heated by Waste Heat From Data Centers

The UK government is investing £90 million ($119 million) to build and upgrade heat networks that capture excess heat from data centers, factories and other sources and redirect it to homes and other facilities. According to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the scheme could provide cheaper heating for more than 750,000 homes.

The funding includes £41 million ($54 million) for a major project in London that would distribute hot water through a tunnel beneath the River Thames. The government says the system could provide “clean heat” to 650,000 London homes while reducing reliance on gas. Similar district heating systems have been operating for decades in cities including Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Vienna and Berlin.

💸 Can quantum turn ‘magic’ into money?

Quantum computing is moving from something that once seemed like science fiction toward a technology with real commercial potential. Breakthroughs in quantum error correction, logical qubits and scalable architectures are bringing researchers closer to machines capable of solving problems that are extremely difficult for classical computers. The science is impressive — but the real test is whether it can become a useful product.

That’s where the “money” comes in. If quantum computers can deliver better answers to valuable problems — from discovering new drugs and materials to optimising financial portfolios, logistics or complex industrial processes — businesses could eventually pay for that advantage.

The opportunity is potentially enormous, but so is the challenge: turning quantum “magic” into reliable, scalable computing that creates measurable economic value — and perhaps, along the way, opening doors we haven't even imagined yet.

🔥 Tokenization Drives Shift to 24/7 Financial Markets

Franklin Templeton's Chris Perkins highlighted how tokenization is pulling traditional finance into nonstop markets, contrasting slow legacy systems with always-on blockchain rails.

"Given the choice to buy the token or the non-token, assuming the compliance is okay and the security is okay and there's liquidity, I have to buy the token because it's a better product. I can risk manage it 24-7. 24-7 markets are here, that's what tokenization does.

Who do you think is going to have the liquidity problem? The guys who balance 24-7 and recollateralize or the guys that are asleep? People can decide for themselves. So it's going to be slower than all at once and they're going to be winners and losers and the stakes are incredibly high," — Chris said.

🤑 XRP Ledger’s Batch upgrade slips to Oct. 9 after validator support resets

The XRP Ledger’s Batch upgrade was delayed by at least 10 days after validator support briefly fell below the required threshold, putting its earliest activation at Oct. 9 if support holds. Batch would allow users to submit up to eight transactions together, including all-or-nothing exchanges that could enable simultaneous payment and delivery of tokenized assets.

A separate upgrade allowing account owners to delegate specific tasks without sharing signing keys was also delayed and could activate as early as Oct. 8.

🧑‍⚖️ SEC Staff Issues FAQs Clarifying Digital Asset Token Functionality, Staking Receipt Tokens and Investment Contracts

SEC staff has issued new FAQs clarifying how the Commission’s March interpretive release on digital assets applies to token functionality, staking receipt tokens and investment contracts. Among the guidance: once a network is functional, services to maintain, improve or grow it generally would not count as “essential managerial efforts” under the Howey test.

The FAQs reflect staff views and have no legal force or effect.

🤑 Why Stellar Thinks Its $4B Tokenization Milestone Is Just the Beginning

Stellar
has crossed $4B in tokenized RWAs, up from $1B in January, with growth mainly coming from traditional instruments like Treasuries, money market funds, and credit. Raja Chakravorti, Chief Business Officer at the Stellar Development Foundation, attributes it to the liquidity and buyers those assets already have:

"The asset mix actually very much mirrors what we see in traditional financial markets. You have significant growth being driven through Treasuries, money market funds, public and private credit, non-US government debt.

They have liquidity, they have value to them, and we're creating more efficiency through tokenizing them. And there's already a distribution framework that exists with those asset types."

🌐 TikTok agrees to pay at least $100M in Alabama settlement

TikTok will pay Alabama at least $100 million in a settlement tied to allegations that the short-form video platform misled users about safety and was designed to addict children. The case was scheduled to go to trial on Monday.

According to the Alabama attorney general’s office, TikTok could end up paying the state a total of $300 million, depending on “certain conditions.” The company also agreed to introduce a two-hour daily time limit for underage users, with additional parental controls, as well as restrictions on overnight usage and cosmetic filters.

💸 AI messaging scam costs Italy's top bank Intesa millions

Fraudsters using AI to impersonate senior executives stole €95 million ($108 million) from Fideuram, the private banking arm of Italy's biggest lender Intesa Sanpaolo. More ‌than half the funds were later recovered, but some €36 million remains missing.

The scheme began in February when then-Fideuram Chairman Paolo Molesini received what appeared to be a WhatsApp message from Intesa Sanpaolo CEO Carlo Messina seeking urgent help with an overseas transaction.

The fraudsters followed up with a phone call that appeared to come from a senior partner at a prominent law firm, confirming the instruction. The callers used AI technology to replicate the lawyer's voice.

Believing the request was genuine, Molesini instructed his finance department to arrange a series of transfers to foreign accounts, mainly in China and Hong Kong. Fideuram quickly detected irregularities in the transfers and alerted banks and ‌authorities in several countries. Roughly €53 million was later recovered through cooperation between authorities in China, Portugal and Italy.

The remaining funds have not been traced after passing through a network of overseas accounts and being converted into cryptocurrencies.

🔭 Scientists Detect Radio Signals From an Exoplanet for the First Time in History

Astronomers have detected radio emissions from an exoplanet for the first time, linking the signal to Beta Pictoris b, a young gas giant about 63 light-years from Earth. Observations from South Africa’s MeerKAT radio telescope indicate that the emissions are likely produced by the planet’s powerful magnetic field and trapped charged particles.

The phenomenon, known as auroral radio emission, occurs when charged particles interact with a planet’s magnetosphere and release radio waves as the planet rotates. The study has not yet been peer-reviewed, but researchers say the findings provide the first direct evidence of this type of magnetic activity originating from a specific exoplanet.

🧑‍⚖️ Federal bill would force VPN providers, ISPs, and DNS services to block foreign piracy sites

A week and change ago, the U.S. Congress saw yet another anti-piracy bill introduced, H.R. 10364, or by its full name, the American Copyright Protection Act of 2026 (ACPA). It would require internet service providers, DNS resolving services, and virtual private networks, or VPNs, to block foreign websites or services hosting pirated content.

The full text for the bill is now public, and it stands out due to its targeting of foreign services and affecting connections "from the United States." In ACPA, a standard blocking order needs to be court-issued, but would apply in 14 to 30 days.
