💸 Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent champions dollar dominance across global markets and stablecoins

Scott Bessent leant on stablecoin adoption and dollar-denominated trade metrics to defend the strength of the U.S. economy, seeking to counter anxiety over surging government debt yields and shifting international payment rails. 🇺🇸

⬇️ Bessent pushed back against a recent report by the NYT which outlined structural risks in the country’s financial position.

He highlighted data amplified by conservative commentator Lawrence Kudlow, to emphasize the greenback’s enduring global dominanc, noting that the U.S. dollar remains on one side of 89.2% of FX transactions, while the overwhelming majority of stablecoins are pegged to USD.

Bessent also highlighted record median household income, a historically low official poverty rate, continued employment growth and the Atlanta Fed’s 5.1% annualised estimate for third-quarter GDP.

🔜 The pushback from Bessent comes at a time where U.S. Treasury yields reach multiyear highs, with the 10-year yield hitting 5%. The Treasury has been repurchasing longer term bonds, leading critics to accuse Bessent of attempting to suppress yields.

🔜 Bessent rejects that interpretation, maintaining that the buybacks are intended to improve liquidity and manage the maturity structure, rather than control a Treasury market worth more than $30 trillion.

❗️Bessent also cited Saudi Arabia’s departure from mBridge, the China-backed cross-border digital currency platform, as supportive of dollar dominance.

🧠 Human brain is two separate organs, Stanford Medicine-led research finds

For centuries, scientists have thought of the brain as a single, unified organ. But new research led by Stanford Medicine reveals that what we call the brain is two distinct organs that evolved independently over hundreds of millions of years.

The new research finding shows that the human brain consists of two ancient nervous systems cleverly packaged together — a more primitive part that regulates our hearts’ beating, our breathing and other functions, and another that makes us distinctly human, capable of poetry, mathematics and wondering about our own origins.

The discovery could help explain why scientists have struggled for decades to grow certain types of brain cells in the laboratory — and it opens new avenues for studying devastating diseases that affect the brain stem, such as spinal muscular atrophy SMA) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease).

“We’ve shown for the first time that the front of the brain arises from a totally different progenitor cell than the back of the brain,” — said Kyle Loh, PhD, associate professor of developmental biology.

“Our discovery means that we can now grow neurons from the back of the brain, the hindbrain, in a petri dish and study their functions.”

The findings were published in Nature Neuroscience Sept. 18.

🚘 Tesla video helps driver beat fleeing charge after Winter Springs traffic stop

A Winter Springs man who was arrested at gunpoint in his own driveway after police accused him of fleeing a traffic stop has been acquitted, with Tesla camera footage playing a key role in his defense. The driver said he never saw the officer's emergency lights, while police believed he was trying to flee.

The case took nearly two years to resolve. After reviewing video recorded by the vehicle, a judge acquitted Kevin Finley of the charges before the case was sent to a jury, and he is now considering a civil lawsuit.

💊 Engineered Probiotic Wipes Out 43% of Colorectal Tumors in Mice

Because cancer develops from the body's own cells, figuring out how to target tumors directly while not damaging healthy tissue has proven to be one of the most difficult aspects of treating the disease in all its myriad forms.

Now, scientists have demonstrated a new approach – turning probiotic bacteria into tiny little drug factories that set up shop inside tumors, producing chemotherapy while helping rally the immune system against the cancer at the same time. When tested in mice, the treatment produced complete regression in three out of seven colorectal tumors.

It's a small result, to be sure, but one that suggests engineered probiotics could one day play an important role in the cancer-fighting toolkit.

🤑 Stellar on How Institutions Can Shift From Pilots to Production

There are a lot of theories about what slows institutional adoption.

According to Raja Chakravorti, Chief Business Officer at the Stellar Development Foundation, the veto is coming from risk and compliance teams. They approve every new product before the institution can offer it to clients, and a tokenized asset on a public blockchain introduces risk categories most of them have never had to evaluate.

Is there a way to freeze the tokenized asset in case of movement to an undesired wallet? Can it be clawed back in case of a sanctioned party gaining control? 🤔

For a significant manager, the answer has to be yes. Stellar has spent years building those controls directly into its protocol. On the data side, that same institutional push is what led to Stellar adopting a standardized oracle infrastructure for pricing the assets flowing onto the network.

🔐 Privacy sits right next to those controls. A wealth manager has a fiduciary obligation to ensure client activity stays confidential. For Raja, privacy is a precondition, and if the risk it introduces is not eliminated, the conversation about tokenization does not get very far.

📱 Elon Musk's X brings bitcoin and stock trading closer to the timeline

Elon Musk’s X has made it easier for its U.S.-based users to turn crypto and stock market chatter on their timeline into trades without leaving the app for long.

This feature, now live, allows U.S. users to tap a cashtag like BTC or TSLA, see their live charts and related posts and hit the "Trade button. Tapping “Trade” then takes users to one of X’s partner platforms — Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase.

Kraken or Coinbase — where they can log in or sign up and complete the order. X is just letting users act quickly on financial chatter on their timeline, without acting as a broker. The actual buying and selling still happens at one of the partner exchanges.

⚡️🇺🇸 Trump says US will henceforth call AI 'super intelligence'

President Donald Trump said US government ‌documents would use "super intelligence" going forward instead of artificial intelligence, and repeated his previous calls about AI warnings being a hoax.

"From this point forward, all of United States documents, and hopefully the world's will be changed to use the much more ‌accurate term 'super' as opposed to artificial. So it's super intelligence," — Trump said in a UN General Assembly speech.

⚡️🤑 BVNK expands multi-chain stablecoin infrastructure with Stellar integration

BVNK today announced the integration of the Stellar blockchain into its stablecoin payments platform, giving businesses access to another high-speed, low-cost payment rail through BVNK’s single platform and API. 🚀

🔜 It gives BVNK’s customers an additional route for moving stablecoins globally, while enabling businesses to access multiple blockchain networks through a single API. This abstracts much of the technical complexity of connecting to individual blockchain networks.

🔜 BVNK’s customers can now access Stellar’s network for high-volume cross-border payments, merchant payouts, and treasury disbursements. Stellar has an average settlement speed of 5 seconds, 99.99% network uptime and average transaction costs are a fraction of a cent.

❗️This integration can also be extended to additional Stellar-native assets over time as BVNK adds support for them – without additional work needed on the customer's side.

“The future of global payments is multi-chain and multi-asset, but businesses shouldn't have to manage the underlying engineering burden of connecting to dozens of individual blockchains.

“By integrating Stellar’s established payment network, we are giving our customers another efficient, low-cost route to move money globally through a single platform and API. Businesses can choose the networks and assets that best fit their needs, without having to build and maintain the infrastructure to connect to each one themselves,” — Kim Mescal Julien, Head of Partnerships at BVNK, said.

The Stellar integration is live today for all BVNK enterprise customers across 130+ supported countries. 🌎

🤑 ACI Worldwide Extends ACI Connetic to Support Payments Orchestrated Through Swift’s Ledger. Ripple is listed as a DLT rail for ACI

ACI Worldwide, an original innovator in global payments technology, announced it is bringing intelligent routing for Swift ledger transactions to ACI Connetic, its cloud-native payments hub.

❗️The capability will allow banks to process tokenized deposit payments alongside traditional payment types using the same operational controls, workflows and infrastructure, eliminating the need for separate digital-asset payment operations.

💸 Swift announced its blockchain-based ledger last year and has since confirmed it is ready for initial use, with 17 banks across six continents piloting use cases. The ledger creates a way for banks to move tokenized deposits across borders, outside of a single institution and beyond traditional operating hours.

The infrastructure is arriving quickly, but many institutions have yet to fit these payments into day-to-day operations. ACI Connetic will bring Swift ledger transactions into the same payments environment banks already use to route, monitor, control and reconcile payments at scale.

🔜 ACI supports around 9% of global SWIFT traffic and approximately 30% in the US. ACI offers services to banks around the world wanting to connect to and leverage the SWIFT’s global payment initiative (gpi).

🔜 ACI also supports real-time schemes around the world, meaning that any bank can use Real-time Payment Systems to support SWIFT FIN, gpi, DLT (e.g. Ripple), Wire and immediate payments.

🇨🇦 Canada's 'Big Six' banks to launch interbank tokenized deposit initiative

Six of Canada's largest banks are exploring a Canadian-dollar tokenized deposit system designed to move money faster between financial institutions and eventually connect with other digital asset initiatives.

Bank of Montreal, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, National Bank of Canada, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotiabank and TD Bank Group form the joint venture, whose first phase focuses on moving tokenized deposits across participating banks. The joint statement said more banks could join the project later.

“The first phase of the project aims to move tokenized deposits efficiently across Canadian financial institutions with a longer-term goal to connect with other emerging digital assets initiatives,” — they said.

The banks said the project aims to offer faster, more efficient and programmable payments to Canadian customers while preserving financial stability and regulatory oversight. 🚀

🤖 Scientists Propose a Light–Matter Quantum State Inside Living Cells

Mitochondria have spent billions of years solving one of biology’s hardest problems: turning energy stored in food into a form cells can readily use. A new preprint proposes that part of their remarkable performance might involve a quantum interaction hidden inside their folded membranes.

Researchers detected an unusual infrared signal at 71 terahertz in living human cells, several mouse tissues and isolated mitochondria. The signal disappeared after biological samples were dried and ground, suggesting that it depended on organized mitochondrial structure rather than a single isolated molecule.

The team then developed a model in which infrared light couples with collective molecular vibrations inside mitochondrial membranes, producing a hybrid light-matter state called a polariton. When cultured cells were exposed to selected infrared frequencies, ATP production increased by about 10%.

The study was posted on bioRxiv on Sept. 15, 2026.

🔥 CFTC Chairman Selig says US markets must prepare for "mass tokenization" as blockchains and AI are "adopted at scale."

Selig told the US Treasury Market Conference that "the next decade will likely bring more change to financial markets than the previous several decades combined."

The CFTC expanded eligible collateral to include stablecoins in February and is looking to drive further adoption across exchanges and clearinghouses.

"The U.S. is the financial markets capital of the world. We have innovative firms, world-class exchanges, strong market participants, and now, regulators committed to promoting market integrity while supporting responsible innovation," — Selig said.

Those advantages will help ensure the US continues to lead on the new frontier of finance.🏆🇺🇸

🤖 22 countries back call to keep AI ‘under human control’

Several European countries were among a group of 22 nations that adopted a declaration Monday saying that AI “must remain under human direction, oversight and control” and suggesting to create a global supervisory regime.

The declaration, adopted on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly this week, acknowledged AI’s “potential to improve lives, advance science and strengthen our economies” but warned that “the rapid development of frontier AI models poses serious risks to safety and security if not appropriately managed.”

Neither the U.S. nor China are part of the new declaration.
