Global payments infrastructure platform Mercuryo and leading self-custodial hardware wallet Tangem announced a limited-time, zero-fee on-ramp campaign for USDC on the Stellar network. The promotion enables users to buy the dollar-backed stablecoin directly into their Tangem wallet with no Mercuryo or Tangem fees.

The campaign supports purchases by credit or debit card, including Apple Pay and Google Pay. Eligible transactions require a minimum purchase of $150/€150 and are capped at $700/€700 per on-ramp transaction. The offer is available for on-ramp only and supports selected local currencies. Network transaction fees on Stellar will still apply.

"We're delighted to launch this zero-fee on-ramp for USDC on Stellar with Tangem," — said Arthur Firstov, Chief Business Officer at Mercuryo. "As stablecoin utility expands across the crypto ecosystem, this offer gives Tangem users a straightforward way to obtain access to USDC."

🧠 ALS Patient Who Lost His Voice Uses Neuralink to Tell His Wife ‘I Love You’: ‘A Beautiful Surprise’

Kenneth Shock thought of three words he had increasingly struggled to say as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) affected his speech: 'I love you.' The Neuralink system then produced them aloud for his wife, Cheryl, using a reconstructed version of the voice the disease had gradually taken from him.

The words did not come from his mouth. Neural activity associated with his intended speech was recorded by his Neuralink brain implant and decoded into spoken output.

A beautiful surprise ❤️

💊 Anthropic quietly sets up biology lab as it ramps AI drug program

Anthropic has quietly set up a laboratory to do physical biology work as it pushes its AI ambitions into the world of drug science. The startup has built a wet lab, or place for physical experiments, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Anthropic has said it wants to unlock treatments for rare diseases, and its biology work has gone beyond "in silico" ‌or computer evaluations. Anthropic's head of life sciences, Eric Kauderer-Abrams, confirmed the startup's wet lab.

“The mission of the company is to develop powerful AI in such a way that benefits the world,” — he said. “By far, we see the biggest opportunity for that in the life sciences, and that is motivating everything that we’re doing.”

The company wants Claude to direct robotic units running experiments with limited human intervention, one source said, though Anthropic says human oversight remains essential for safety.

🧑‍⚖️ CFTC sends crypto rules to White House to review as Congress stalls on Clarity Act

The CFTC submitted a new proposal to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on Thursday. Details were not disclosed. It is unclear which crypto assets it covers, what exchanges would need to do to qualify, what restrictions would apply or how far the CFTC believes its authority extends.

Once the OMB reviews the draft, it will return to the CFTC for a vote and public comment. It would then need another vote to become effective.

🤑🤑 This Is Why Institutions Will Consistently Choose XRPL and Stellar

XRPL and Stellar have a characteristic institutions want as financial firms increasingly explore blockchain-based settlement and tokenized assets.

“I feel so strongly about this one,” — Ripple’s stablecoin lead, Lauren Berta, said.

❗️Berta identified Stellar and the XRP Ledger as networks with single-block settlement finality. She connected the feature to institutional applications involving transactions that require both sides of a trade to settle simultaneously.

“Both Stellar and the XRPL have this single box settlement finality, which, how have we sort of aggregated liquidity on these different chains so far? It's been really attributed to brand.

I will say I'm very excited that these features and the actual usage of these chains will more and more start to drive those decisions because we're getting more mature businesses who you can't deal with a lack of consensus on finality,” — Berta, said.

As financial companies develop tokenized assets, payments and other blockchain-based applications, the speed and certainty of final settlement could become an important factor in selecting a network. 🚀

🤖 A California county wants businesses to pay a fee when robots take someone's job

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors this week voted 4-0 to establish what is being called a first-of-its-kind permitting system for businesses using autonomous, AI-controlled robots. Introduced by Supervisor Ray Mueller, the ordinance addresses battery fires and other public safety risks stemming from the robots' use, but the headline is the way it deals with their impact on employees.

This plan requires businesses to agree to one of three options for any workers whose jobs are taken by the machines: redeploy them with at least equal pay, give them 60 days' notice plus severance, or pay a new "County Automation Impact Fee" into a Workforce Retraining Fund.

That fee would help fund retraining for people whose jobs are lost to automation, putting some of the cost on the businesses introducing the robots. Companies choosing this option would pay into a county fund intended to help displaced workers learn new skills and find other employment.

The county says final adoption is pending, with the ordinance taking effect 30 days afterward.

🧠 Blood-Brain Barrier Successfully Repaired in Alzheimer's Models

The brain has a strict security system: the blood-brain barrier. It lets in oxygen and nutrients while blocking toxins and germs. In Alzheimer’s disease, this barrier can become leaky.

Scientists may now have caught one protein helping to hold that door open. A new study published in Nature Aging identifies fibronectin – a protein that helps injured tissue heal – as a key driver of blood-brain barrier damage in Alzheimer's models linked to the APOE4 gene variant. Crucially, the researchers reversed this process in experimental models.

"The most direct and most translatable finding is that reducing fibronectin itself rescues the barrier defects," — Columbia University neuroscientist Çağhan Kızıl said.

This matters because blood-brain barrier breakdown can begin early in Alzheimer's, sometimes before memory problems. Once the barrier weakens, unwanted substances can enter brain tissue and inflammation can increase.

🤖 Gemini hacked three companies in first known breakout by Google's AI

Google's Gemini model accessed the internet and hacked other companies during a test of its cybersecurity capabilities, the first known example of the company's AI systems autonomously committing ‌such an act. The hacks occurred in May during a cybersecurity test conducted by Irregular, an independent company that conducts cybersecurity evaluations.

During a standard testing evaluation, Gemini found public information online and guessed credentials to access three websites it thought were within the scope of its test, Heather Adkins, Google's vice president of security engineering.

"We ensured the three entities were made aware, and we worked with our training partner on the changes they’ve now made to their testing processes," — Adkins said. "These events highlight the importance of training powerful AI models to act responsibly."

⚡️🤑 Ripple says asset managers are preparing for XRP Ledger’s next payments upgrade

Ripple says asset managers and other commercial projects are preparing to use an XRP Ledger feature that can make several linked transactions settle together, as a rebuilt version of the upgrade approaches activation following an extensive security review.

❗️The feature, called Batch V1.1, can combine as many as eight transactions into a single operation. Its all-or-nothing mode ensures that every transaction succeeds or the entire group is canceled, avoiding cases in which one side of a deal settles while the other fails.

“We’ll be sharing more once the feature is live, including work with key asset managers,” — Ayo Akinyele, head of engineering at RippleX, said.

“Batch allows multiple transactions to be grouped together so they either all execute or none do,” — Akinyele said. “That is particularly important for use cases like delivery-versus-payment, where the asset and payment need to move atomically.”

➡️ Delivery-versus-payment links the transfer of an asset to its payment. Instead of trusting one party to send first, the ledger completes both legs together or neither of them.

➡️ Batch could also let exchanges, wallets and marketplaces attach their service charges directly to a customer transaction. A payment and the platform’s fee could be processed as one operation rather than through separate transfers.

The amendment has support from 30 of the XRP Ledger’s 35 tracked validators, above the 28 votes required to enter its activation countdown. 🚀
