🇪🇺 37 European Banks Plan MiCA-Compliant Euro Stablecoin on Ethereum

A consortium of 37 European banks across 15 countries is preparing to launch a euro stablecoin on Ethereum’s public blockchain, adding a bank-backed digital asset to an established onchain ecosystem.

Known as Qivalis, the initiative is being developed under the European Union’s MiCA framework. The stablecoin is planned to maintain a 1:1 value with the euro, but Qivalis has not yet launched and remains subject to regulatory approval in the Netherlands.

Qivalis has not yet provided details on which applications or institutions will support the stablecoin after launch. The project is targeting a launch in the second half of 2026.

🤑 U.S. Bank takes next step towards launching its stablecoin with cross-border payment test

U.S. Bancorp's (USB) U.S. Bank is laying the groundwork to put its own stablecoin to work, completing a live cross-border payment and weighing broader uses across its payments and treasury business.

❗️The Minneapolis-based lender completed a transaction with USBDC, its proprietary U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, between U.S. Bank entities in North America and Europe.

🔜 The pilot tested minting and redeeming USBDC as well as freezing and clawing back tokens. It also validated the bank's internally developed Digital Asset Platform, which connects blockchain networks with its finance, compliance, risk and operations systems.

“This live pilot demonstrates our ability to accelerate global cash management and money movement capabilities," — said Gunjan Kedia, chairman and CEO at U.S. Bank.

🔜 The transaction ran on the Stellar blockchain, following the November announcement to experiment with custom stablecoin issuance with Stellar Development Foundation.

U.S. Bank said it is exploring several uses for USBDC, including cross-border treasury operations, liquidity management and moving collateral. The bank did not say when the stablecoin could become available to clients or give a timeline for a broader commercial rollout. 🚀

⚡️🇺🇸 US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is calling on the Senate to pass the CLARITY Act

In July, I called on the Senate to advance the Clarity Act — a bill to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets and upgrade our ability to prevent bad actors from exploiting these critical technologies.

When the Senate returns from August recess, I strongly urge everyone to remain at the negotiating table, agree to the motion to proceed, and continue the legislative process. Failing to do so would send a troubling signal to our allies and adversaries alike that America is unwilling to lead on the future of digital assets and willing to forgo enhanced national security tools to combat their misuse.

🧑‍⚖️ The Senate is set to vote on the CLARITY Act as early as September 15

🧠 Atlas Launches Wearable EEG Device for Continuous Brain Monitoring

Atlas has launched a wearable EEG device that sticks behind the ear with an adhesive pad and continuously monitors brain activity throughout the day.

The Atlas 1.0 combines electroencephalography, electrodermal activity tracking, movement sensing, and speech pattern analysis — feeding all signals to an AI system that assesses your level of focus, stress, and mental energy across different activities like meetings, family dinners, or workouts.

Over months of use, the companion app builds a personal map of when you perform best and under what conditions — helping you identify the people, habits, and environments that drive or drain your attention. Atlas says its algorithms are trained on a dataset of more than 500,000 real-life brain recordings.

Deliveries begin in Q1 2027. 🚀

🤑 Zebec and MoneyGram Expand Enterprise Payroll with Global Fiat Off-Ramp Access on the Stellar Network

Zebec Network, Stellar and MoneyGram announced the integration of MoneyGram Ramps into Zebec’s enterprise payroll platform. MoneyGram is the first fiat off-ramp through Zebec’s Stellar network payroll experience, connecting employees and contractors to cash for everyday transactions through MoneyGram’s global payments network.

🔜 Zebec’s native deployment on the Stellar network enables employers to stream employee and contractor payments in stablecoins.

🔜 Recipients can receive funds into digital wallets as payroll accrues and retain or transfer digital value, spend through supported Zebec card products, or access funds across the globe in local currency through participating MoneyGram locations, subject to availability and applicable law.

🔜 MoneyGram Ramps enables supported wallets and applications to facilitate USDC cash-in and cash-out on the Stellar network.

❗️Through MoneyGram’s vast network of retail locations, users can convert eligible digital-dollar balances into local currency at participating locations in more than 170 countries and territories without requiring a traditional bank account.

The Stellar network provides the payments infrastructure, MoneyGram extends that infrastructure into local fiat access, and Zebec brings the employer and recipient experience together,” — said Simon Babakhani, CEO of Zebec Network.

❤️ Teachers union reaches AI privacy deal with Microsoft

The American Federation of Teachers and Microsoft have reached an agreement establishing privacy and safety protections for the use of AI in schools. The AI privacy standard consists of 10 legally enforceable protections, including an agreement by the tech giant to not use student or teacher data to train or improve an AI model, with the exception of “narrow safety and security” circumstances.

The standard bars Microsoft from tracking students and prohibits its AI from making decisions in schools without human oversight. It also requires the company to be transparent with educators and parents on how its tools work.

🕵🏼‍♀️ LG accused of tracking its smart TV users, scanning home networks, and recording conversations

An investigation by YouTube channel Gamers Nexus has found that LG's smart OLED TVs track users' viewing patterns across streaming platforms, cable, and local media. The televisions also reportedly scan users' home Wi-Fi network, collect information about connected devices without permission, and transmit the data to LG Ad Solutions to push targeted advertising.

The investigators found that LG was using Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) technology to track not only users' viewing habits but also any content played through the TVs' HDMI, USB, RJ45, optical, RCA, and coaxial ports. However, LG has strongly denied recent claims that its smart TVs constantly log and upload data, record audio while in standby, while confirming they scan local area networks for other devices, a feature common in smart TVs and media devices.

🤖 Bitcoin and Ethereum race quantum clock as U.S. backs $300 million hardware push

Bitcoin and Ethereum developers are accelerating work to protect their networks from a future quantum computer capable of breaking the cryptography that guards crypto wallets, just as Washington starts putting serious money behind the machines that could one day do it.

🔘The U.S. Commerce Department finalized a CHIPS Act award worth up to $100 million each for Rigetti, D-Wave and Quantinuum, while taking minority stakes in the three quantum-computing companies. The money is aimed at scaling hardware, manufacturing and error-correction systems needed for larger, fault-tolerant machines.

🔘It comes as Ethereum's protocol team has set December 2029 as a self-imposed deadline for making the base layer quantum-resistant across execution, consensus and data, planning as if the so-called “Q-day” could arrive as early as 2030.

🔘Bitcoin has no equivalent network-wide deadline, but work has accelerated this year around Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP)-360, which proposes a post-quantum output type, and BIP-361, which lays out a phased migration away from today's ECDSA and Schnorr signatures. Bitcoin researchers and institutions have similarly discussed 2029 as the window by which a credible migration path needs to be in place.

🔜 Google Quantum AI estimated earlier this year that attacking 256-bit elliptic-curve cryptography could require fewer than 1,200 error-corrected qubits, or the smallest unit of information in quantum computing.

🔜 IBM nevertheless plans to deliver Starling, a fault-tolerant machine capable of running 100 million gates on 200 logical qubits, in 2029. Quantinuum is targeting hundreds of logical qubits around the same period.

While those figures cannot be compared directly with Google's attack estimate, they show why protocol developers don't want to wait until a cryptographically relevant machine already exists.

🔥 SGX's bitcoin and ether perpetual futures are now open to U.S. institutions

The Singapore Exchange (SGX) has obtained CFTC authorization to open its crypto perpetual futures to U.S. institutional investors, a milestone the exchange says bridges American trading desks with Asian liquidity pools.

"Under the Regulation 48.10 ruling, we have obtained CFTC authorization to open our crypto products to U.S. institutional access. Previously, U.S. participants couldn't trade these contracts but now they can," — KC Lam, head of crypto derivatives at SGX Group, said.

🔜 Regulation 48.10 is the framework under which the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission allows a registered Foreign Board of Trade (FBOT), an overseas exchange recognized by the CFTC, to give U.S. participants direct access to its trading system, without the exchange needing to separately register as a full U.S.-regulated exchange.

In effect, it lets qualifying foreign platforms open their existing order books to U.S. institutional traders under CFTC oversight, rather than requiring a new, standalone U.S. listing. 🚀

🍎 Apple Watch’s new AI features are normalizing the idea that technology is always listening

At Wednesday’s Surprise and Shine event, the real surprise wasn’t the foldable iPhone, but Apple’s decision to let its watches process live audio and transcribe conversations. With its new watches’ “Audio Intelligence,” “Live Rewind,” and “Siri Recap” features, the company is straddling the line between accessibility and utility on one side and what starts to feel like invasive technology on the other.

On its own, Audio Intelligence seems to be a useful feature for the deaf or hard of hearing, as it can alert Apple Watch wearers to sounds like sirens, alarms, doorbells, babies crying, and more, using on-device AI. This can work even when the wearer’s iPhone is not with them and, in some cases, could provide life-saving assistance, such as when a fire alarm or carbon-monoxide detector goes off.

Apple’s data protections may help, but normalizing listening technology could still be a questionable move for a privacy-conscious company. 🤔

🪰 A Simulated Fruit Fly Brain Is Now Trading Crypto

Coinbase programmer Alex Wormuth connected a digital model of a fly’s brain to a trading simulator. The system is based on a scientific map of the fly’s brain containing roughly 139,000 neurons and 50 million connections.

Here’s the wild part: there’s no AI agent and no pre-built trading strategy. Market events are translated into stimuli that the simulated brain can understand: buying is perceived as “sugar,” while selling is perceived as “bitterness.” Neural activity is then converted into commands to buy or sell cryptocurrencies.

"I gave the fly brain $100 to trade bitcoin. Dopamine neurons are stimulated when the fly makes profit. Neuron activity controls buy/sell decisions and makes trades on coinbase. Will the fly get rich?" - Alex Wormuth wrote.

This isn’t Wormuth’s first experiment — he previously used a simulated fly brain to play Doom.
