The Ethereum Foundation has given itself until December 2029 to make Ethereum resistant to quantum computers across the parts of the network that process transactions, secure validators and store data.
Planned protections include new account and validator signature systems, a public-key registry and a fallback designed to keep Ethereum operating with reduced guarantees if quantum computers advance sooner than expected.

Uzbekistan has launched a pilot to test payments with a som-pegged stablecoin backed by government securities.
The National Agency for Prospective Projects (NAPP) had registered Humo Digital as a participant in a special regime jointly overseen with the central bank. The pilot will test the issuance, circulation and redemption of HUMO, with each token pegged to one Uzbek som.
NAPP said more than 20 merchants are prepared to test HUMO payments for goods and services. The project will also integrate participating banks’ payment-processing and blockchain infrastructure. Asterium, a licensed crypto exchange, will serve as a project partner.
According to the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, the initial trial will run for 12 months, with the project’s total duration capped at three years.

Alphabet Inc.’s Google is spending €13 billion ($15.1 billion) on AI infrastructure in Finland, its biggest European investment, as the Nordic country’s cold climate and carbon-free power make it a magnet for data center builders. Over the next 2 years, Google will build 3 new data centers and expand an existing facility in the southeastern city of Hamina.

A consortium of 37 European banks across 15 countries is preparing to launch a euro stablecoin on Ethereum’s public blockchain, adding a bank-backed digital asset to an established onchain ecosystem.
Known as Qivalis, the initiative is being developed under the European Union’s MiCA framework. The stablecoin is planned to maintain a 1:1 value with the euro, but Qivalis has not yet launched and remains subject to regulatory approval in the Netherlands.
Qivalis has not yet provided details on which applications or institutions will support the stablecoin after launch. The project is targeting a launch in the second half of 2026.

U.S. Bancorp's (USB) U.S. Bank is laying the groundwork to put its own stablecoin to work, completing a live cross-border payment and weighing broader uses across its payments and treasury business.
“This live pilot demonstrates our ability to accelerate global cash management and money movement capabilities," — said Gunjan Kedia, chairman and CEO at U.S. Bank.
U.S. Bank said it is exploring several uses for USBDC, including cross-border treasury operations, liquidity management and moving collateral. The bank did not say when the stablecoin could become available to clients or give a timeline for a broader commercial rollout.

In July, I called on the Senate to advance the Clarity Act — a bill to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets and upgrade our ability to prevent bad actors from exploiting these critical technologies.
When the Senate returns from August recess, I strongly urge everyone to remain at the negotiating table, agree to the motion to proceed, and continue the legislative process. Failing to do so would send a troubling signal to our allies and adversaries alike that America is unwilling to lead on the future of digital assets and willing to forgo enhanced national security tools to combat their misuse.

Atlas has launched a wearable EEG device that sticks behind the ear with an adhesive pad and continuously monitors brain activity throughout the day.
The Atlas 1.0 combines electroencephalography, electrodermal activity tracking, movement sensing, and speech pattern analysis — feeding all signals to an AI system that assesses your level of focus, stress, and mental energy across different activities like meetings, family dinners, or workouts.
Over months of use, the companion app builds a personal map of when you perform best and under what conditions — helping you identify the people, habits, and environments that drive or drain your attention. Atlas says its algorithms are trained on a dataset of more than 500,000 real-life brain recordings.
Deliveries begin in Q1 2027.

The American Federation of Teachers and Microsoft have reached an agreement establishing privacy and safety protections for the use of AI in schools. The AI privacy standard consists of 10 legally enforceable protections, including an agreement by the tech giant to not use student or teacher data to train or improve an AI model, with the exception of “narrow safety and security” circumstances.
The standard bars Microsoft from tracking students and prohibits its AI from making decisions in schools without human oversight. It also requires the company to be transparent with educators and parents on how its tools work.

🕵🏼♀️ LG accused of tracking its smart TV users, scanning home networks, and recording conversations
An investigation by YouTube channel Gamers Nexus has found that LG's smart OLED TVs track users' viewing patterns across streaming platforms, cable, and local media. The televisions also reportedly scan users' home Wi-Fi network, collect information about connected devices without permission, and transmit the data to LG Ad Solutions to push targeted advertising.
The investigators found that LG was using Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) technology to track not only users' viewing habits but also any content played through the TVs' HDMI, USB, RJ45, optical, RCA, and coaxial ports. However, LG has strongly denied recent claims that its smart TVs constantly log and upload data, record audio while in standby, while confirming they scan local area networks for other devices, a feature common in smart TVs and media devices.

Bitcoin and Ethereum developers are accelerating work to protect their networks from a future quantum computer capable of breaking the cryptography that guards crypto wallets, just as Washington starts putting serious money behind the machines that could one day do it.
While those figures cannot be compared directly with Google's attack estimate, they show why protocol developers don't want to wait until a cryptographically relevant machine already exists.

The Singapore Exchange (SGX) has obtained CFTC authorization to open its crypto perpetual futures to U.S. institutional investors, a milestone the exchange says bridges American trading desks with Asian liquidity pools.
"Under the Regulation 48.10 ruling, we have obtained CFTC authorization to open our crypto products to U.S. institutional access. Previously, U.S. participants couldn't trade these contracts but now they can," — KC Lam, head of crypto derivatives at SGX Group, said.
In effect, it lets qualifying foreign platforms open their existing order books to U.S. institutional traders under CFTC oversight, rather than requiring a new, standalone U.S. listing.

At Wednesday’s Surprise and Shine event, the real surprise wasn’t the foldable iPhone, but Apple’s decision to let its watches process live audio and transcribe conversations. With its new watches’ “Audio Intelligence,” “Live Rewind,” and “Siri Recap” features, the company is straddling the line between accessibility and utility on one side and what starts to feel like invasive technology on the other.
On its own, Audio Intelligence seems to be a useful feature for the deaf or hard of hearing, as it can alert Apple Watch wearers to sounds like sirens, alarms, doorbells, babies crying, and more, using on-device AI. This can work even when the wearer’s iPhone is not with them and, in some cases, could provide life-saving assistance, such as when a fire alarm or carbon-monoxide detector goes off.
Apple’s data protections may help, but normalizing listening technology could still be a questionable move for a privacy-conscious company.
