The reception workers at the Henn na – or “Weird” – Hotel gaze blankly at guests. Some of the uncanny staff members look like Japanese women. Others are talking Velociraptors. All of them are robots.

In fact, the novelty Tokyo hotel is known for being the first in the world to be “run by” machines. They speak different languages and carry out front-of-house tasks such as greetings, check-in and tourist information. Bosses have claimed the robots could eventually yield savings of 75% on labour costs.

🇪🇺🇬🇱 EU Plans Major Greenland Investment Surge as Arctic Stakes Rise

European Commission President Ursula von der Leye, who is visiting Greenland on Sunday and Monday, has said the bloc is preparing a "massive European investment surge" aimed in part at strengthening Arctic security. The European Commission has proposed allocating €530 million to Greenland under the EU budget covering 2028 to 2034.

The Commission has linked the proposal directly to Greenland’s "growing geostrategic importance in the Arctic." Von der Leyen is also expected to sign a joint declaration between the EU and Greenland on Monday. An additional €200 million in funding is set to be announced during the visit.

The US Army has tested a quantum-resistant cybersecurity platform under live battlefield conditions, demonstrating its ability to protect tactical communications from emerging quantum threats.

QuSecure’s QuProtect R3 was deployed during Project Convergence Capstone 6 (PCC6), an annual Army experiment held at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California. Operated by soldiers during the exercise, the system provided secure communications, cryptographic agility, and an inventory of cryptographic assets used across tactical mission systems.

❗️The TRL-7 milestone arrives as federal agencies and defense components align with binding timelines under Executive Order 14412, which mandates the complete migration of High Value Assets (HVAs) and high-impact systems to PQC for key establishment by December 31, 2030, and digital signatures by December 31, 2031.

DBS (D05) and Citi (C) completed the first cross-border USD payment over a weekend using tokenized deposits on Swift's Digital Ledger. The transaction, executed on Sept. 5 between DBS in Singapore and Citi's New York office, settled in minutes rather than the industry norm of up to two business days.

❗️It is the second confirmed live transaction on Swift's blockchain ledger, following HSBC and Standard Chartered's first live cross-border transfer in August.

The back-to-back tests come as Swift's $1.5 quadrillion network faces pressure from stablecoins and tokenized deposits that settle around the clock, raising the question of whether the 53-year-old messaging network can adapt fast enough to remain relevant. Swift rolled out its blockchain ledger in July with 17 banks.

"Processing a live transaction over a weekend demonstrates that always-on cross-border payments are already a reality," — said Mridula Iyer, Citi's head of services for Asia South.

Deutsche Telekom AG, Orange SA, Vodafone Group Plc and Telefonica SA would jointly bid for a share of airwaves that the European Union has proposed reserving for a local operator, a plan aimed at increasing sovereign satellite capabilities. 💊 AI-Discovered Drug Reverses Aging Markers in Study

Insilico Medicine, a clinical-stage company focused on generative AI-driven drug discovery and development, announced the publication of a new study conducted in collaboration with an international team of scientists from Harvard Medical School, Stanford University, The Broad Institute, RWTH Aachen University, Peking University and Westlake University.

📝 Using longitudinal Olink proteomic data (CNCB OMIX accession: OMIX008341) collected during a Phase IIa clinical trial of rentosertib, researchers evaluated biological age using 6 internationally recognized, independently developed proteomic aging clocks.

🔜 All 6 models consistently indicated a reduction in predicted biological age among patients treated with rentosertib. In addition, the Forced Vital Capacity (FVC), the essential measure of lung function declining with age, showed promising dose-dependent reversal compared to placebo aligning with the proteomic aging clock age reversal.

❗️Recently published in Nature Biotechnology, the study represents the first clinical evaluation of a potentially first-in-class drug candidate featuring both an AI-discovered target with relevance to aging and disease biology and an AI-designed molecule, rather than a repurposed generic drug such as rapamycin or metformin.

The findings also provide a proof-of-concept framework for integrating aging biomarkers into standard clinical trials to accelerate the discovery of geroprotective drugs and longevity therapeutics. 🚀

The results will be presented by first author Alex Zhavoronkov, founder and CEO of Insilico Medicine, at the Nature conference: Redefining Healthcare in the Age of AI, to be held at Sorbonne University in Paris on September 8, 2026.
