Thereโs a notable nod to digital assets in the G20 Chairโs Statement released by Scott Bessent, with finance ministers and central bank governors from the 20 largest economies recognizing the potential of digital assets to support economic growth and committing to create โclear pathwaysโ for responsible innovation.
The statement also calls for improvements to cross-border payments, including keeping the systems banks and central banks use to move large or time-sensitive payments open longer, encouraging wider use of ISO 20022 (a common global messaging standard used by banks), and making it easier to transmit financial services data across borders.
The group is also awaiting findings from the Financial Stability Board on the cross-border implications of global stablecoins.

Firelight Protocol raised $8 million to build an onchain protection layer for DeFi with plans to expand the assets backing its cover system beyond XRP to BTC and Stellar's XLM. Firelight, which was incubated by Sentora, plans to launch the protocol and its first cover integrations in September.
โThis isnโt built for degens,โ โ he said. โThis is built to bring the next wave of capital in. We want to be that protection layer to allow that adoption.โ
DeMartino said he expects more money currently sitting in bank accounts to migrate into fintech earn products powered by stablecoins, onchain vaults and wallets.

At the G20 tech forum, Elon Musk estimated digital AI alone could lift the global economy by 20 to 30%, or about 20 to 30 trillion dollars a year. He said within about a year AI should do almost anything digital. Musk also said AI writing software will be "Stockfish-level" in 12 to 18 months, past what humans can match.

Transfer agents are a key component of the national clearance and settlement system. Transfer agents now perform a more diverse array of functions and services that may not be adequately addressed by the Commissionโs transfer agent rules, which have not been substantively updated since the first rules were adopted in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
โThis proposal would streamline and modernize the Commissionโs rules to reflect transfer agentsโ current processes and operations, including the use of electronic communications and blockchain technology in connection with securities offerings and the transfer of shares,โ โ said SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins.
The proposing release is published on SEC.gov and will be published in the Federal Register. The public comment period will remain open for 60 days after the date of publication in the Federal Register.

Microglia are the brain's most abundant immune cells. They help protect the brain from harmful invaders, clear away damaged neurons, and support normal brain development. Researchers at Columbia's Zuckerman Institute have now found for the first time that human microglia, much like human neurons, mature far more slowly than comparable cells in other animals.
"This slow development may help human microglia influence the human brain in ways that enable our powerful cognitive abilities," โ said Carlos Diaz-Salazar, PhD, the lead author of a new Neuron study on the subject.
The new findings suggest that SRGAP2, one of several dozen genes that were duplicated specifically in humans, may help coordinate this slow developmental pace across multiple kinds of brain cells, including neurons and microglia. The researchers now want to determine exactly how the gene promotes neoteny in these cells and in other parts of the brain.
"We want to understand all the elements that help make up the human brain to understand what makes us unique from an evolutionary standpoint," โ Dr. Polleux said.

The worldโs most widely used stablecoin just found a new home. USDT0, the infrastructure that brings Tetherโs USDT to every network, is now live on the Stellar network, marking a significant milestone for one of the longest-running blockchains built for real-world payments and cross-border finance.
Whether you are making cross-border payments, settling accounts, or powering an app on Stellar, USDT0 gives institutions and individuals the ability to move value onchain with immediate access to billions of dollars of liquidity. Built on LayerZeroโs OFT interoperability standard, USDT0 maintains a single unified supply backed 1:1 by USDT.
From day one, Stellar participants tap into the same global liquidity pool shared across LayerZero-connected blockchain ecosystems โ no isolated pools, no wrapped tokens, no third-party tooling required. See it in action: move USDT0 to and from any supported chain in a few clicks.
With USDT0 now available on Stellar, DeFi protocols can build around an asset with more than $180 billion in market capitalization. USDT0 can be used as collateral, borrowed against, traded, and put to work across yield opportunities.
That creates more ways for existing USDT holders to put their capital to work on Stellar, expanding the potential pool of participants and capital to include markets where USDT is already a primary settlement asset. USDT0 on Stellar is available on SushiSwap with more DeFi integrations to come.
USDT has a global footprint, and is used widely in emergent, fast-growth markets across Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific โ the very regions where Stellar has spent years building payments infrastructure.
With USDT0 now on Stellar, users in these regions can now move the stablecoin they already trust on infrastructure purpose-built for it โ sub-cent fees, five-second transaction finality, and on/off-ramp coverage across 170+ countries. This combination of asset and network is a natural fit for the way people in emerging markets actually use stablecoins.
USDT0โs arrival on Stellar sends a clear message to the broader ecosystem. Institutions, fintechs, and developers evaluating which networks to build on now have another compelling reason to choose Stellar: access to the most liquid stablecoin in the world, on a network with a decade of proven reliability in global payments.
The infrastructure is ready. The liquidity is live. The next chapter for Stellar starts now.

Elon Muskโs social network X said that starting today, all of its U.S. creator payouts will be handled through X Money, the appโs payments service. This includes payouts from both Xโs Original Content Rewards Program and creatorsโ subscriptions.
The benefit of this new payment system is that the payments are instant. Thereโs no waiting until the end of a billing cycle or a minimum threshold that has to be reached before the creator can access their money. Previously, payments were processed every two weeks, with a minimum payout of $30.

The system gives statistical agencies a way to prove published data is genuine. Each release receives a cryptographic fingerprint, and the XRP Ledger stores that fingerprint permanently. Anyone can then check a downloaded file against the ledger record. Importantly, the underlying data never touches the chain. Only the fingerprint does, so confidentiality holds throughout.
The BIS built this around SDMX, the standard it uses to exchange official statistics. The ECB, IMF, OECD, World Bank, and ILO rely on SDMX as well. However, SDMX offers no native way to prove where a file originated. The BIS closed that gap by making the XRP Ledger a public notary. As the paper puts it, no single institution can then edit the record silently.
The paper also points to XRPLโs EVM-compatible sidechain as a natural next step. That route would let data anchoring and smart contract execution share one ledger.
The authors look past statistics publishing toward tokenized markets. They argue the payoff grows when verified data sits on the same ledger as digital assets. Inflation-linked products, perpetual futures, and derivative settlement all appear as candidates.
The BIS frames this as a proof of concept rather than a live service. Production use would require HSM-backed signing, pinned validator nodes, and formal load testing. The ledger also certifies only what was published, by whom, and when. Publishers stay responsible for whether the numbers themselves are correct.

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and Schools Chancellor Kamar H. Samuels announced a moratorium on student-facing generative AI use in schools, alongside a new screen time policy, a decision that will impact nearly 600,000 public school students, or two-thirds of the systemโs total enrollment.
The policy establishes a one-year moratorium, effective in the 2026-2027 school year, on student-facing generative AI for children in 2-K through 8th grade. It also introduces twice-yearly AI critical thinking modules for high schoolers, limited AI pilots for a small number of high school classrooms and age-appropriate screen time restrictions.
