🤑 Ripple and Jeonbuk Bank Partner to Modernize Cross-border Payments for Korea’s Regional Banking Sector

Ripple announced a partnership with Jeonbuk Bank, making it the first regional bank in Korea to deploy Ripple Payments for cross-border remittances, bringing near real-time settlement to businesses that have historically relied on transfers taking days to complete.

Traditional bank transfers pass through multiple intermediary banks via the SWIFT network and can take days to process. Ripple Payments replaces this with near real-time settlement, completing in seconds to minutes, and operating 24/7.

Jeonbuk Bank can now offer faster, more transparent, and cost-effective remittance services to its global business customers, including import-export companies, IT startups, and online content creators. 🚀

"As the first regional bank in Korea to deploy Ripple Payments, Jeonbuk Bank is extending near real-time cross-border settlement directly to the businesses it serves, and this is a meaningful step for Korea's broader financial ecosystem," — Fiona Murray, Managing Director, Asia Pacific at Ripple said.

⚡️🏦 Citi plans to launch bitcoin custody later this year, allowing institutional clients to hold BTC alongside traditional assets

The bank’s institutional infrastructure arm announced the launch of Custody+, a suite of services designed to make custody, settlement, foreign exchange and cash management faster. The service will start with BTC and give clients access to traditional and crypto custody through the same framework.

Citi's custody operation serves clients in more than 100 markets, including 62 markets where it runs its own custody network. By adding bitcoin custody, those clients could keep their bitcoin with the same bank that holds their stocks and bonds, making it easier for some institutions to invest in bitcoin without using a separate crypto custodian.

The bank has rolled out new technology in the U.S. that processes many custody-related tasks through one system instead of passing them through several steps.

On the educational side, ChatGPT for Teens introduces a new Study Mode feature and other tools designed to encourage teen users to engage their curiosity and work through problems, not just get quick answers. The new product promises to include additional safety measures, as well as the educational crisis of ChatGPT-assisted cheating in schools.

🤖 Rain Launches the Agentic Payments Alliance to Guide the Future of Agent-Driven Commerce

Rain, the enterprise-grade infrastructure for stablecoin-powered payments, announced the launch of the Agentic Payments Alliance (APA), a coalition of organizations working together to help guide the development of agentic commerce. Founding members include Visa, Mastercard, Fiserv, Circle, Solana, and Remitly.

❗️By 2030, McKinsey projects between $3 trillion and $5 trillion in global agentic commerce. Much of the infrastructure that activity will depend on, including how agents get authorized, how fraud gets caught, and how loyalty and rewards travel with an agent, is still being defined.

The Alliance itself is a working coalition, run collectively by its founding members. Early work is expected to include shared research and frameworks, testing emerging standards for agent identity and authorization, and advocacy on the regulatory questions agentic commerce raises.

26 founding members across payments, stablecoins, and AI, working together to shape how agent-driven commerce gets built. 🚀

〰️ Comcast Launches Xfinity Shield, Redefining Intelligent Home Protection

Comcast has rolled out a new motion-sensing technology to its latest home routers, allowing homeowners to receive notifications about activity detected inside their house while they are away. The free feature, called Wi-Fi Motion, turns newer Xfinity gateways into motion sensors by detecting interruptions to the Wi-Fi signal of the wireless network and sends a notification through the Xfinity app.

"We believe the network should do more than connect devices. It should help protect the people, their personal information, and everything within their homes that depend on our most reliable WiFi every day," — Comcast said.

⚡️🇺🇸 SEC Proposes New Regulation Crypto Assets

The SEC proposed a new regulatory framework for crypto assets, the first ‌major step under U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to give the industry the tailored rules it has long pushed for.

❗️The SEC's proposal would exempt certain crypto companies and offerings from U.S. securities rules, which should make it easier for crypto companies to issue tokens and raise money.

"As the Crypto Capital of the World, the U.S. must and will lead. Regulation Crypto Assets will ensure that we do," — Paul Atkins said. 🏆

🟠If finalized as drafted, the SEC's proposal would allow a one-time exemption for crypto companies to issue up to $5 million in crypto tokens during a four-year period. It would also allow offerings of up to $75 million during each 12-month period, though issuers would still have to provide financial statements and meet regular reporting requirements.

🟠Under both exemptions, ‌token issuers would still need to disclose certain information to investors.

🟠The SEC's proposal also includes a safe harbor that would exclude a crypto asset from being deemed an investment contract, if certain conditions are met.

The SEC's plan is subject to public comment for 60 days after it is published in the U.S. Federal Register.

⚡️🇺🇸 U.S. accounting-standards group proposes way to see stablecoins as 'cash equivalent'

The U.S. standard-setting organization accounting made an important proposal for stablecoin, answering uncertainties about whether stablecoins could be considered the same as cash under common accounting practices.

❗️Stablecoins that have liquid reserves (whose contents are disclosed each year) at least equal to the circulating tokens, which can be cashed in for dollars at will, can be considered "cash equivalents."

"The amendments in this proposed update would clarify, through illustrative examples, how the current definition of cash equivalents applies to certain digital assets," — the board said in its proposal.

💎 Quantum sensors made from diamond defects to let US scientists probe the universe

Researchers in the US have launched a USD 1 million project to develop quantum sensors by using the tiny defects in diamonds, to measure electromagnetic fields with extraordinary sensitivity. The effort is part of a new three-year project carried out at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) in Illinois.

The researchers will create compact sensors that can precisely map electromagnetic fields. The devices could additionally be integrated into particle accelerators and other experiments. Understanding how electromagnetic forces affect particles is crucial for particle physics.

“This is another front for the likely quantum revolution. Five or 10 years ago, this was kind of science fiction,” — Nazar Delegan, PhD, a researcher at ANL and project co-lead, highlighted.

If successful, the project could enable more precise measurements and new ways to study the universe using quantum defects in diamonds, with support from the DOE’s Quantum Information Science program. 🚀

🧠 Mysterious waves sweeping across your brain may help turn sensory chaos into what you see

Your brain and the ocean share an unexpected feature: waves. Electrical activity can move across the brain's surface in patterns known as traveling brain waves or neural traveling waves. Salk Institute researchers suggest these waves act as a computational engine in the visual cortex, helping the brain process visual information.

The researchers concentrated on the visual cortex and proposed 4 major functions for neural traveling waves. The waves may adjust perception from moment to moment, transform recent sensory information into an internal representation, produce short-term predictions about the surrounding world, and preserve and replay patterns associated with memories of events that unfold over time.

The connections responsible for generating the waves do more than transmit signals. They can alter their physiology ("synaptic weights") in ways that reflect information learned from the outside world.

The review was published
in Neuron on July 21, 2026.
