🥽 Meta glasses banned from courts in England and Wales

Courts in England and Wales have joined a number of restaurants, theatres and pubs in banning Meta glasses, amid a mounting backlash against what has been described as “spyware”. Last month courts in New York announced a ban on the controversial glasses, which can record video footage while being worn.

Now His Majesty’s Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) has made clear that Meta glasses will be confiscated from anyone entering its judicial buildings. Taking images or videos in court buildings is prohibited in the UK without official permission and can be prosecuted as contempt of court.

“Users who bring Meta glasses into courts or tribunals will have them confiscated on entry and they will be returned when the owner leaves the building,” — a source said.

💊 New autism therapy shows surprising benefits

Researchers led by Director Eunjoon Kim of the IBS Center for Synaptic Brain Dysfunctions have identified a potential new autism treatment target: restoring function of the glycine transporter Slc6a20a/SLC6A20 to boost NMDAR activity, a receptor linked to ASD, schizophrenia, and other neurological conditions that has proven difficult to treat consistently.

These receptors play a major role in communication between brain cells and are essential for learning, memory, and other cognitive processes. To explore whether the strategy might eventually have relevance for people, the researchers tested it in human brain models.

Using CRISPR gene editing, they created human cortical organoids with SHANK2 or SHANK3 mutations. Like the mouse models, these organoids showed reduced NMDAR activity. An ASO designed to target the human SLC6A20 gene restored NMDAR function to levels close to normal.

A single ASO dose remained effective for at least 8 weeks with no detectable adverse effects in treated mice. While focused on autism, the findings position SLC6A20 as a promising target for restoring NMDAR function — with potential applications for other disorders involving NMDAR hypofunction.

🏦 Bank of England Tests Stablecoin and Digital Pound Interoperability to Modernize Cross-Border Finance

By moving its digital pound exploration into Phase 2, the BOE is testing whether public stablecoin infrastructure and central bank money can coexist in a single payment flow for trade finance. The BOE has been experimenting with a CBDC and the distributed-ledger technology that forms the backbone of the blockchain since 2024.

At the heart of the experiment is the improvement of trade finance, which would particularly benefit small businesses, according to Otto Jacobsson, U.K. chapter lead at the Digital Assets Association. Trade-finance delays make it harder for those firms to prove creditworthiness and access funding.

“If these processes can become faster and more efficient, U.K. businesses could unlock working capital sooner and make it easier to finance international trade,”— Jacobsson said.

🤑 NYU Abu Dhabi Receives Renewed Ripple UBRI Grant to Advance Blockchain Research and Education

NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) has received a generous renewed grant from Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), extending a long-standing collaboration to advance blockchain research, education, and innovation. The six-year grant will support work led by Professors Raša Karapandža and Yaw Nyarko, Co-Directors of NYUAD’s Center for Technology, Economics and Development (CTED).

🔜 The funding will accelerate research into how decentralized technologies can improve market efficiency, reduce barriers to trade, and support inclusive economic growth. Based at NYUAD and operating globally, CTED conducts research at the intersection of technology and economic theory, with projects spanning the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and North America.

🔜 A key outcome of the partnership is the Volta Initiative, a serverless mobile application built on blockchain infrastructure that supports trade among smallholder farmers in Ghana, demonstrating how decentralized technologies can drive real economic impact. 🚀

“NYU Abu Dhabi has become a cornerstone of UBRI’s work in the Middle East. Through hands-on integration with the XRP Ledger in Professor Karapandža’s courses and applied research initiatives like Volta, the team is equipping students and researchers to build, test, and deploy real-world blockchain solutions,” — said Lauren Weymouth, Senior Director of University Partnerships at Ripple.

🔥 Miden bets on privacy stablecoins with introduction of USDCx

Miden is planning to introduce a privacy-focused stablecoin backed by Circle Internet’s USDC at the same time as the zero-knowledge blockchain prepares to debut its mainnet.

❗️ Issued natively on Miden using Circle’s xReserve infrastructure, USDCx will be backed 1:1 by Circle’s stablecoin held in an xReserve smart contract.

Users will be able to hold and transfer USDCx without publicly revealing balances, counterparties or transaction histories. The stablecoin is expected to go live at the same time as the Miden mainnet, targeted for the end of this month.

🔜 Miden is a California-based zero-knowledge blockchain built around client-side proving, where transactions are executed and proved on users’ devices rather than exposed to the network. The design is intended to provide applications with privacy by default while allowing users to selectively disclose information when needed.

The product targets one of the biggest limitations of using public blockchains for institutional finance: transparency. 🚀

🇺🇸 Bank of America pledges $250 billion for US infrastructure financing

Bank of America plans ‌to deploy $250 billion by July 2027 to support U.S. digital and infrastructure projects, a move it says will boost the country's economic growth and help create tens of thousands of jobs.

The Wall Street bank said its "Critical Infrastructure Finance Initiative," launched on the heels of the nation's 250th anniversary celebrations, will provide primary market lending, investments, capital markets services, and banking and advisory offerings.

❗️Bank of America's financing will target three areas: digital infrastructure, including data centers and computing; energy and power infrastructure, including renewable generation and energy storage; and core infrastructure such as transportation and natural gas.

"Meeting America's ‌growing infrastructure needs requires mobilizing capital at scale across increasingly interconnected sectors," — said Karen Fang, global head of infrastructure and sustainable finance at Bank of America.

🔥 SEC clears Franklin Templeton funds to use onchain BENJI system for cash management

The SEC has issued a no-action letter to Franklin Templeton, clearing the way for the firm’s traditional registered funds to invest in its blockchain-based OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund.

📝 In the letter the SEC cites Section 17(f) and Rule 17f-2 of the Investment Company Act of 1940, enabling registered funds to hold shares of the onchain money market fund for cash management without meeting certain physical-vault requirements.

❗️"Essentially, it opens the door for Franklin’s registered funds (mutual funds, ETFs, etc) to hold its OnChain fund despite not technically satisfying 1940 Act custody rules," — Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart said on X.

The decision effectively lets conventional Franklin funds access some of the operational advantages of its OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund (FOBXX), often called BENJI, including faster transaction processing and more frequent pricing updates.

🤑 Franklin’s onchain fund relies on an integrated record-keeping system that combines internal book-entry data with transaction records on the Stellar blockchain, the agency noted, while the firm’s affiliated transfer agent maintains full control over private keys, administrative functions and the official shareholder file, allowing it to correct errors or restore records if needed.

Under the arrangement, Franklin Templeton Investor Services will create and control blockchain wallets on Stellar for the investing funds and keep the private keys.

Franklin Templeton’s blockchain-based custody plan gets SEC staff backing, paving the way for future digital asset growth and investment opportunities
