🇺🇸 CFTC Chair Pushes US Crypto Innovation Over Global Consensus

CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig has stated that the U.S. will prioritize financial innovation over international regulatory consensus, arguing that America should lead the next generation of financial markets rather than adopt rules designed for legacy systems.

❗️Selig noted that crypto markets have become a primary engine of financial innovation. He pointed to the launch of CFTC-regulated Bitcoin futures during President Donald Trump’s first administration as a key step that helped bring digital assets into mainstream finance by giving institutional investors regulated exposure.

The CFTC is exploring how regulated stablecoins could be used as collateral in derivatives markets, a move he said could modernize market infrastructure while maintaining the safety and integrity of trading systems.

Selig stressed that financial regulation must adapt to rapidly changing markets driven by automation, algorithmic trading, AI, and real-time execution. 🚀

🤖 Robot dogs in space? China intends to build its 2035 moon station with quadruped robots

The concept envisions three astronauts working alongside intelligent machines. China intends to integrate these new systems into its future space station, that they intend to complete in 2035.

As the crew explores the moon’s surface, one astronaut would direct two robot dogs across the landscape, while another collects rock samples and carries out detailed scientific work, according to a blueprint by researchers working on China’s lunar base.

🤖 Anthropic is turning Claude Code’s auto mode on by default

Anthropic is turning Claude Code’s auto mode on by default Programming with Claude Code will soon require even less human oversight, as Anthropic says it’s making auto mode the default for Pro, Max, and Team accounts, starting on August 14.

"Auto mode is designed to balance users’ desire not to be interrupted with a system that helps avoid harmful actions: instead of prompts, it routes each tool call through a classifier targeted at blocking actions that are irreversible, destructive, or aimed outside your environment," — Anthropic wrote.

🛰 Intel's proposed orbital data centers would manage thousands of simple LEO satellites

An Intel patent application describes an orbital data center architecture that moves some of the computing used to operate massive satellite constellations off the ground and into space.

The architecture proposes a two-tier satellite network in which a small number of more powerful satellites in higher orbits manage large constellations of relatively simple satellites in low-Earth orbit, handling much of the computing and constellation coordination normally performed by data centers and network operations centers on the ground.

🇺🇸 US lab to hunt most elusive ‘ghost particles’ deep underground with automated triggers

One of the world’s most ambitious neutrino experiments, the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), is being built to catch some of the universe’s most elusive particles, but finding those fleeting signals may soon involve AI.

As the massive detector takes shape a mile underground in South Dakota, researchers are developing AI systems to sort through huge amounts of data, identify neutrino interactions, spot signs of a stellar explosion and even detect problems inside the detector.

This could fundamentally change how scientists run a particle-physics experiment at DUNE’s scale. For instance, instead of waiting for conventional analysis to work through enormous amounts of data, AI could identify important events in near real time and direct researchers toward the signals most worth investigating.

“These approaches are going to really accelerate DUNE in terms of the commissioning process and the sensitivity of the experiment to reach our full discovery potential,” — Sowjanya Gollapinni, a representative from DUNE, said.

🇨🇳 China bypasses shipping chokepoints with ‘Ice Silk Road’ through Arctic

A Chinese container shipping company named Sea Legend will launch its first regular shipping service through the Arctic, aiming to shorten the journey between Asia and Europe and access the Turkish and North African markets. The primary benefit of this shipping route is to cut the usual 40-day sailing time between the two ports by half.

The shipping service will connect Ningbo, China to Felixstowe, UK through the Northern Sea route across Russia’s Arctic coast. Dubbed the “Ice Silk Road”, the route evokes historical trading pathways that once linked China and Europe.

⚡️🇬🇧UK Regulators Prepare Tokenised Gold Framework to Digitise Markets and Defend London's Bullion Dominance

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has talked to industry members, including big banks, about ways it could regulate tokenised gold in order to encourage growth in the market. The tokenization of gold is the process by which digital tokens are created to represent ownership rights in physical gold, with the token issuer holding the gold as backing.

London dominates the global gold market with about 70% of trading volumes, according to industry body the World Gold Council, but it is facing competition from China, which is seeking to become a bullion hub.

The FCA has been seeking feedback on how tokenised gold could be used as collateral in wholesale markets and it is expected to make an announcement on developing regulatory standards in this area in the next few months.

👨‍⚖️ 'How to Kill a Federal Judge' author convicted of threatening US judges

A federal jury in St. Paul, Minnesota, found ‌Robert Phillip Ivers, 73, guilty on all three counts including writing and distributing a 236-page manuscript titled "How to Kill a Federal Judge", mailing threatening communications, and threatening to murder a federal judge.

The U.S. Marshals Service says it has recorded threats against 299 different judges in the current fiscal year. Federal prosecutors stepped in after library staff in Wayzata caught him printing copies of the manuscript and showing them around.

Apparently, printing a 236-page guide to killing judges at the local library didn’t strike him as remotely suspicious. 🤦‍♂️

🧠 China races to develop brain-computer interfaces that can be inserted in 10 minutes

Chinese start-ups and researchers are racing to bring BCIs to market that can be implanted in just a few minutes, as Beijing pushes to nurture home-grown players in the sector to compete with Elon Musk’s Neuralink.

StairMed Technology – one of the start-ups involved – “is developing a more minimally invasive way of delivering the device, entering through blood vessels in the neck and guiding it through the vascular system directly into the brain,” — said Zhao Zhengtuo, the company’s co-founder.

⚡️ Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg warns against centralizing AI power

In a 6,500 word post, Zuckerberg detailed his vision for AI, arguing the technology is not to be feared and pushing back on concerns that superintelligence could strip people of jobs.

“The notion that AI is so dangerous that the only safe path is an extreme concentration of power seems inherently problematic,” — Zuckerberg wrote.

Zuckerberg called to broadly distribute superintelligent AI for economic opportunity. Doing so, Zuckerberg said, would provide a safety net to prevent just a handful of governments, businesses and other institutions holding too much power. He emphasized that the U.S. must address restrictions on AI companies in order to create the best models in the world.

“It is also important that the US and its allies lead the open source AI ecosystem that will make up a large percent of global AI use,” — Zuckerber added.

⚡️🇺🇸 Trump signs order to limit childhood vaccines and split MMR shots

President Donald Trump has signed an order that calls for fewer childhood vaccines and also recommends splitting the mumps, measles and rubella (MMR) shots.

Only six of the 17 vaccines routinely recommended for all children in the US would continue to have full recommendations: measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTaP), polio, Hib, pneumococcal disease, HPV and varicella.

"We're reducing them,"— Trump said. "It's not only that you're doing fewer vaccines, or jabs, as they say, but you're doing them in a series of visits to the doctor."
