Singapore is benefitting from the rapid growth of AI and the government is making use of the technology to ensure higher productivity and better jobs for workers who are worried about their livelihoods. The current administration is re-looking at its approach to industry and trade, and ways to strengthen the city-state’s competitiveness.
“New breakthroughs are creating opportunities that were unimaginable just a few years ago, even as they raise new challenges and questions,” — Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said.
“We cannot stand still while others move ahead. But neither should we accept every new technology uncritically. Singapore will embrace these advances on our own terms.”

Brazil’s central bank will require crypto exchanges to delay some customer transfers to foreign platforms and self-custody wallets for up to 24 hours as part of new anti-fraud rules.
The measure also gives exchanges more responsibility for judging risk based on the customer, transaction, counterparty and destination jurisdiction.

BTQ Technologies Corp. ("BTQ"), a global technology company building the trust infrastructure for the quantum era, is pleased to announce the successful completion of the first milestone of its multi-year collaboration with the Industrial Technology Research Institute ("ITRI") to validate BTQ's Quantum Compute-in-Memory ("QCIM") architecture for post-quantum cryptography.
The QCIM core IP demonstrated its crypto-agility by executing cryptographic operations associated with FIPS 203, FIPS 204 and FIPS 205, the post-quantum cryptography standards established by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology.
"The work completed with ITRI provides a stronger foundation for integrating QCIM into the devices and infrastructure supporting military, industrial, automotive, IoT and Physical AI systems," — said Olivier Roussy Newton, CEO and Chairman of BTQ Technologies.
On May 1, 2023, BTQ was informed that it was the recipient of a US$10,000 grant from the Stellar Community Fund.

When emergency lines get backed up, every single second counts. In New Orleans, the local emergency call center handles over one million calls every year while serving 18 million visitors. That is a staggering workload for an agency currently short of call takers.
To lighten the burden on overworked staff, the Orleans Parish Communication District turned to an automated tool called Call Triage. Developed by public safety tech firm Carbyne, the system helps clear clogged lines during major accidents.

A developer posted on the r/ClaudeCode subreddit a major error that their AI tool executed, which resulted in the deletion of their entire drive. According to u/Ecstatic-Big5126, they instructed Opus 5 to back up their system.
While the AI proceeded with the task, it thought that it had created the backup in the wrong directory and then proceeded to run an “rm -rf” command on the supposed backup. Unfortunately, it mistakenly deleted the entire profile folder in its confusion.
“I asked Claude Opus 5 to create a backup. Instead, it created the backup in the wrong directory and then proceeded to "rm -rf" my entire drive,” u/Ecstatic-Big5126 wrote. “After wiping everything, it just replied: "Sorry, typo." ...like nothing had happened.” They also added, “That was simultaneously the funniest and most painful AI moment I've had.”

An Argonne research team has successfully demonstrated an AI-driven system to automate a powerful simulation method that predicts how atoms in materials interact. Known as atomistic simulations, this method can potentially accelerate discovery of materials for areas such as batteries, aerospace and electronics.
“By automating these exhaustive investigations, we can potentially reduce the time requirements for discovering new materials from months or years to just days,” — said Aditya Koneru, one of the study’s authors and an Argonne Scholar at the ALCF.

Bitcoin will draw trillions of dollars from institutional investors over the next decade as financial advisers, family offices, pension plans and sovereign wealth funds begin to view it as a mainstream financial asset, according to Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan.
“The first professional investors to allocate at scale will be financial advisers and family offices. The shift is already visible in 13F filings for spot bitcoin ETFs and in moves by large wealth firms, including Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo, to make bitcoin more accessible to clients,” — Hougan said.
Over time, Hougan expects the money to come from even larger pools of capital: foundations, endowments, pension plans, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds and central banks.
“It’s a process that will take 10+ years,” — he said.
The scale matters. Those institutions control between $100 trillion and $200 trillion in assets globally, he said. A 1% allocation to bitcoin would be enough to support his long-term price targets.

Adults may need far more weekly exercise than current guidelines recommend to achieve a major reduction in the risk of heart attack and stroke, according to findings from an observational study published online in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
The researchers found that substantial cardiovascular protection was associated with 560 to 610 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity each week. That amount is roughly 3 to 4 times higher than the current public health recommendation of at least 150 minutes per week. Moderate-to-vigorous activities include brisk walking, running, and cycling.

A mutual defense pact between Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan could be expanded to include other regional states including Egypt, Turkey’s foreign minister said.
The regional powers signed the "Mecca Joint Defence Agreement" on Friday. In a joint statement, they said the accord intended to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression and stipulates that an armed attack against any of the three would be regarded as an attack on all.

Researchers from the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) have successfully developed an optimized spark-ignited hydrogen engine suitable for medium-duty commercial vehicles. As a form of internal combustion engine (ICE), the new engine behaves much more like a diesel engine than earlier hydrogen engines.
It is not a new kind of fuel-cell engine, but rather burns hydrogen inside cylinders using spark ignition. Just like a petrol engine, the new ICE produces mechanical propulsion using pistons. In terms of emissions, the engine produces what the team describes as “near-zero tailpipe CO₂.”
“In addition to decades of developing medium- and heavy-duty engines, SwRI has some of the most extensive experience in the world developing and testing H2-ICEs for internal research, clients and industry demonstrations,”— said Dr. Qilong Lu, a program manager in SwRI’s Powertrain Systems Engineering Department.
