๐Ÿค– SEALSQ and GlobalFoundries Partner to Accelerate Post-Quantum Cryptography and Quantum Computing Technologies

Most conversations about the quantum threat focus on new encryption algorithms. But real protection depends on building them into the chips that power servers, smartphones, industrial systems, and critical infrastructure. This shift is reshaping the semiconductor industry, as chipmakers move to embed quantum-resistant security directly into hardware.

๐Ÿ”œ One example comes from Switzerland-based security company SEALSQ and American semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries (GF). The two firms announced a strategic MoU to co-develop across secure semiconductor platforms, Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) and emerging semiconductor-based quantum computing technologies.

The collaboration will focus on developing PQC security IP, secure chiplet architectures, and a CryoCMOS ecosystem to support future quantum computing systems. This partnership is about building the foundation for the quantum era: trusted digital infrastructure secured by PQC and the semiconductor technologies that will enable future quantum computing systems.

โ€œA shared long-term vision between GF and SEALSQ is that semiconductors, cybersecurity, Post-Quantum Cryptography, and quantum computing are converging into a single technology ecosystem,โ€ โ€” said Carlos Moreira, CEO of SEALSQ.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ปAI Found a Root Bug in Linux That Everyone Missed for 15 Years

Nebula Security has published exploit code for GhostLock (CVE-2026-43499), a use-after-free bug that sat in the Linux kernel for 15 years and lets any logged-in user take root on an unpatched machine. The flaw shipped by default in essentially every mainstream distribution since 2011 and needs no special permissions or network access.

๐Ÿ”œ GhostLock is a use-after-free issue introduced with a helper function designed to clean up after a task has been closed, as part of the kernelโ€™s system of prioritizing urgent tasks.

It also demonstrated that the security defect could be exploited for a container escape in Googleโ€™s kernelCTF program and received a $92,337 bug bounty reward. Notably, Nebula found the bug with VEGA, its AI-driven bug-hunting tool, part of a 2026 run of Linux privilege-escalation flaws surfaced by automated tools combing old kernel code few had reread in years.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณChina enforces mandatory rule to cull inefficient solar panels, signals end of ultra-cheap PV price wars

China is preparing a major reset of its solar industry by introducing mandatory energy rules โ€” three standards, known as GB 29447-2026, GB 47835-2026, and GB 47834-2026, They cover the entire photovoltaic supply chain, including polysilicon, silicon wafers, modules, and inverters across domestic manufacturing.

Set to take effect on January 1, 2027, the measures aim to reduce excessive capacity and shift competition away from low prices. By limiting inefficient capacity, China appears to be moving toward a solar sector built around energy savings and higher-quality output.

The European Union will impose a minimum age for young internet users to access social media without parental supervision, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced.

The report recommended that minors under 13 years of age should only have "time-limited" access to social media and with parental supervision. Social media platforms already limit access to users under 13 because they cannot consent to have their data processed according to EU privacy rules.

๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡งUK Treasury report on tokenization cites Ripple as convergence model

Ripple secured a seat at the center of the U.K.'s push to move wholesale markets onchain, being named in a Treasury-backed report as one of the credentialed firms the plan leans on rather than a crypto entrant to be managed.

"Onchain funds, bonds and repo aren't experiments. They're already happening, delivering onchain financial instruments that are cheaper, better and faster than their legacy equivalents.

That's why we are proud to support HM Treasury's Wholesale Digital Markets taskforce and today's new strategy to scale tokenization in the UK," โ€” Ripple wrote on X.

โฌ‡๏ธ The UK has the capital markets depth and regulatory credibility to be a global leader in tokenised wholesale markets.

๐Ÿ“Estimates put the tokenised real-world assets market at $88 trillion by 2035. Up to ยฃ33 billion could be added to the UKโ€™s annual economic output and ยฃ14 billion in annual tax revenues by 2035.

The inaugural report, published on 13 July 2026, sets out actions for industry, supported by government and the UK regulators, to tokenise UK financial markets at scale โ€” including building secondary markets, tokenising collateral and building on the issuance of DIGIT, the UK Digital Gilt instrument.

โ—๏ธOver the next 12 months, the members of the cross-industry taskforce โ€“ currently 54 firms โ€“ will be working with the Wholesale Digital Markets Champion.

Ripple is included in that number. ๐Ÿš€

They will be supported by the City of London Corporation, working closely with industry partners: TheCityUK, the Investment Association, UK Finance, Innovate Finance. The taskforce will drive delivery of live end-to-end use cases, focusing initially on tokenised repo.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณChinese prosecutors call for more proactive approach to investigating crypto money laundering

โฌ‡๏ธ Chinese prosecutors are calling for a more proactive, targeted approach to investigating cryptocurrency-related money laundering, according to an article.

"While virtual currencies improve transaction efficiency, their decentralized, anonymous, and cross-border circulation characteristics also provide unprecedented convenience for money laundering crimes," according to an article on the official website of China's top prosecutorial authority, the Supreme Peopleโ€™s Procuratorate (SPP).

โ—๏ธThe paper argues China's current legal framework has failed to keep pace with digital asset technologies, making it harder to investigate money laundering, collect evidence and recover stolen assets.

In particular, the authors singled out the use of mixers, privacy coins and decentralized exchanges, arguing that existing investigative methods struggle to trace transactions and gather evidence.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท South Korea maintains blockchain economy push as AI takes center stage

South Korea's Ministry of Finance and Economy has reiterated its commitment to growing the local blockchain and digital asset economy, despite a stronger emphasis on AI development.

โ—๏ธThe ministry outlined plans to foster the blockchain economy as part of the country's economic growth strategy for the second half of 2026. These include promoting large-scale blockchain pilot projects and new technologies to strengthen competitiveness in the digital asset ecosystem.

โžก๏ธ To expand the use of blockchain in financial infrastructure, the government plans to launch a pilot project for tokenizing government bonds linked to an institutional CBDC project, slated for 2027. The Bank of Korea will also examine ways to ensure interoperability between the CBDC and other blockchains.

โžก๏ธ In an effort to boost the private digital asset sector, South Korean authorities will advance the proposed Digital Asset Basic Act for enactment in the second half of the year. The legislation, which has been in the works since mid-2025, is expected to lay out the basic legal framework for digital assets, including rules of business conduct and a set of rules for Korean won-pegged stablecoins.

โ€ผ๏ธ In conjunction with the legislation, the ministry said it will establish a legal basis for cross-border stablecoin transactions and support revisions to the Capital Markets Act to enable the launch of the country's first-ever spot cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds.

Furthermore, the government will explore ways to manage and trade Global Voluntary Carbon Market (GVCM) credits on the blockchain, in cooperation with international organizations. ๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿค‘ Ripple is proud to join the x402 Foundation as a Premier Member

The Linux Foundation announced the operational launch of the x402 Foundation, a new open-governance body formed to steward the x402 protocol โ€“ the open standard for internet-native payments over HTTP.

๐Ÿ”œ The Foundation is now fully active under formal, open governance to steward the x402 protocol โ€“ the universal standard that embeds secure payment capabilities directly into web interactions, allowing AI agents, APIs, and applications to process financial transactions as easily as they exchange data.

๐ŸŸ Under the neutral governance of the Linux Foundation, the x402 Foundation will allow developers, financial institutions, cloud providers and other community members to collaboratively shape the protocol's development.

โ—๏ธThis open structure ensures that payments remain highly secure and adaptable, supporting multiple payment types, from traditional cards to stablecoins, without vendor lock-in.

Since the Foundation's intent to launch in April, 40 organizations have joined as members. Ripple is included in that number. ๐Ÿš€

As AI agents begin to take on more of the transaction lifecycle, they'll need a way to pay that's as fast and reliable as the way they already exchange data.

"We've been helping build that future on the XRP Ledger with the tools and infrastructure developers need to enable agentic payments, including support for x402 that enables agents to transact using XRP and RLUSD today," โ€” Ripple wrote on X.
