🧑‍⚖️ Chinese Gamers Allowed By Courts To Inherit Accounts Of Dead Gamer Relatives

Chinese courts recently ruled in favour of gamers in the country, allowing for multiple Chinese families to “inherit the game accounts of deceased relatives”. These cases go beyond game ownership, too, as they also tackled digital assets, in-game purchases, Bitcoin, and even social media accounts.

“Chinese courts view game accounts and microtransaction purchases as something of monetary value, and therefore gamers have rights related to those assets,” u/Slawrfp wrote.

“Chinese courts reject the idea that standard non-transferability clauses can stop you from inheriting or bequeathing a game or even individual microtransactions (of the same nature as CS:GO knives or skins in other games) and have made this ruling in multiple cases.”

The news was posted in the pcmasterrace subreddit by user Slawrfp, who tells the tale of multiple rulings in different Chinese courts of Chinese gamers suing gaming companies for their right to “bequeath and inherit” gaming accounts, and won.

🇨🇳Zhipu’s Chinese Founder Says Frontier AI Should Stay Open to All

The founder of Chinese AI lab Zhipu argued that frontier AI should remain broadly accessible rather than controlled by select individuals, weighing in on a growing debate about the risks posed by ever more powerful models.

⬇️Tang Jie, writing in an internal staff memo, said genuine security stems from broad participation, sharing and oversight rather than technological barriers.

We are convinced that genuine safety is not built on technological closure and barriers, but on broad co-construction, co-sharing, and oversight conducted in the open.

From its founding, Zhipu established a guiding principle: AI must serve human well-being and national strategy. The company rejects bolt-on safety patches and insists on embedding human ethics, social norms, and national laws and regulations as foundational axioms in the model’s value function.

As part of that approach, his company — known also as Knowledge Atlas Technology JSC Ltd. — released its cutting-edge GLM-5.2 under an open-source license free for users to download and commercialize.

🇺🇸🇦🇺Trump Embraces Australian Retirement System Backed by Larry Fink

President Trump said that his administration is working on a plan to launch accounts for adults that would mirror Australia's retirement savings system. He said he’s looking to Australia’s private pensions, known as superannuation funds, for inspiration to reform the US retirement system.

➡️Australia has a superannuation program that requires companies to contribute 12% of their workers' pay into a retirement plan.

"We're going to be doing also something we're working on later on, and it'll be also, I think, very popular, and I guess the best definition is they have a plan in Australia, which people really like," — Trump said. "And we're going to try very hard."

Trump added that the administration would talk about it with Congress to see whether it can be implemented.

🏦🇹🇭Bank of Thailand Governor Vitai Ratanakorn targets the shadow economy with strict Q4 deposit checks, bullion tracking, and a joint SEC audit into USDT.

The Bank of Thailand (BOT) is prepared to launch a sweeping regulatory crackdown in the fourth quarter to isolate illicit financial flows, forcing individuals depositing 5 million Baht or more in cash to formally verify the source of their funds.

The central bank will step up measures targeting the "grey economy", according to Thansettakij reporter Sininat Phadungkan, BOT Governor Vitai Ratanakorn.

❗️The intervention expands commercial bank compliance duties across cash networks, bulk currency exchanges, bullion trading, and suspicious stablecoin transactions, directly preventing regulated entities from facilitating systemic corruption or shadow economies.

"The measures we are implementing are not short-term fixes; they require the continuous deployment of multiple parallel strategies," Governor Vitai noted.

🟠In a joint effort with the SEC, the central bank is auditing high-volume stablecoin transactions, specifically focusing on Tether (USDT), to identify and stop illicit financial flows.

🟠The crackdown also includes tighter controls on bullion trading, requiring banks to report suspicious patterns like rapid digital purchases followed by same-day physical withdrawals to combat money laundering.

🇪🇺🇨🇳EU Plans Fund to Cut Reliance on China

The European Union is developing a “solidarity instrument” to support companies that diversify critical supplies away from China and cushion the impact of any retaliation by Beijing in the event of a trade conflict.

The aim is to reduce the EU's €360 billion trade deficit with China by boosting its exports, diversifying supply chains, and pressuring Beijing to ease market restrictions. If negotiations fail to make sufficient progress by October, the EU may introduce tougher trade measures.

🛰FCC approves orbital space mirrors, first test satellites will launch this year

Reflect Orbital, a California startup that markets itself as “The Sunlight Company” and aims to make “clean, abundant energy available on demand,” has just received approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to launch the Eärendil-1.

This is a low-earth orbit satellite equipped with four 18-meter (~60ft) thin-film reflectors designed to reflect sunlight on specific areas on Earth. This deployment will test the spacecraft’s capabilities in extending daylight for several minutes, which can be used from lighting construction sites and search-and-rescue operations to increasing solar farm energy production.

“We’re grateful to the FCC for recognizing the importance of testing novel technologies in space,” — Ben Nowack, chief executive of Reflect Orbital, said. “This license is the first step toward rigorously testing our technology’s efficacy and the safeguards we have developed.”

🤖 SEALSQ and GlobalFoundries Partner to Accelerate Post-Quantum Cryptography and Quantum Computing Technologies

Most conversations about the quantum threat focus on new encryption algorithms. But real protection depends on building them into the chips that power servers, smartphones, industrial systems, and critical infrastructure. This shift is reshaping the semiconductor industry, as chipmakers move to embed quantum-resistant security directly into hardware.

🔜 One example comes from Switzerland-based security company SEALSQ and American semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries (GF). The two firms announced a strategic MoU to co-develop across secure semiconductor platforms, Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) and emerging semiconductor-based quantum computing technologies.

The collaboration will focus on developing PQC security IP, secure chiplet architectures, and a CryoCMOS ecosystem to support future quantum computing systems. This partnership is about building the foundation for the quantum era: trusted digital infrastructure secured by PQC and the semiconductor technologies that will enable future quantum computing systems.

“A shared long-term vision between GF and SEALSQ is that semiconductors, cybersecurity, Post-Quantum Cryptography, and quantum computing are converging into a single technology ecosystem,” — said Carlos Moreira, CEO of SEALSQ.

👩‍💻AI Found a Root Bug in Linux That Everyone Missed for 15 Years

Nebula Security has published exploit code for GhostLock (CVE-2026-43499), a use-after-free bug that sat in the Linux kernel for 15 years and lets any logged-in user take root on an unpatched machine. The flaw shipped by default in essentially every mainstream distribution since 2011 and needs no special permissions or network access.

🔜 GhostLock is a use-after-free issue introduced with a helper function designed to clean up after a task has been closed, as part of the kernel’s system of prioritizing urgent tasks.

It also demonstrated that the security defect could be exploited for a container escape in Google’s kernelCTF program and received a $92,337 bug bounty reward. Notably, Nebula found the bug with VEGA, its AI-driven bug-hunting tool, part of a 2026 run of Linux privilege-escalation flaws surfaced by automated tools combing old kernel code few had reread in years.

🇨🇳China enforces mandatory rule to cull inefficient solar panels, signals end of ultra-cheap PV price wars

China is preparing a major reset of its solar industry by introducing mandatory energy rules — three standards, known as GB 29447-2026, GB 47835-2026, and GB 47834-2026, They cover the entire photovoltaic supply chain, including polysilicon, silicon wafers, modules, and inverters across domestic manufacturing.

Set to take effect on January 1, 2027, the measures aim to reduce excessive capacity and shift competition away from low prices. By limiting inefficient capacity, China appears to be moving toward a solar sector built around energy savings and higher-quality output.

⚡️🇪🇺EU wants 13+ age restriction for social media

The European Union will impose a minimum age for young internet users to access social media without parental supervision, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced.

The report recommended that minors under 13 years of age should only have "time-limited" access to social media and with parental supervision. Social media platforms already limit access to users under 13 because they cannot consent to have their data processed according to EU privacy rules.

🤑🇬🇧UK Treasury report on tokenization cites Ripple as convergence model

Ripple secured a seat at the center of the U.K.'s push to move wholesale markets onchain, being named in a Treasury-backed report as one of the credentialed firms the plan leans on rather than a crypto entrant to be managed.

"Onchain funds, bonds and repo aren't experiments. They're already happening, delivering onchain financial instruments that are cheaper, better and faster than their legacy equivalents.

That's why we are proud to support HM Treasury's Wholesale Digital Markets taskforce and today's new strategy to scale tokenization in the UK," — Ripple wrote on X.

⬇️ The UK has the capital markets depth and regulatory credibility to be a global leader in tokenised wholesale markets.

📝Estimates put the tokenised real-world assets market at $88 trillion by 2035. Up to £33 billion could be added to the UK’s annual economic output and £14 billion in annual tax revenues by 2035.

The inaugural report, published on 13 July 2026, sets out actions for industry, supported by government and the UK regulators, to tokenise UK financial markets at scale — including building secondary markets, tokenising collateral and building on the issuance of DIGIT, the UK Digital Gilt instrument.

❗️Over the next 12 months, the members of the cross-industry taskforce – currently 54 firms – will be working with the Wholesale Digital Markets Champion.

Ripple is included in that number. 🚀

They will be supported by the City of London Corporation, working closely with industry partners: TheCityUK, the Investment Association, UK Finance, Innovate Finance. The taskforce will drive delivery of live end-to-end use cases, focusing initially on tokenised repo.
