🤖 Meta to put AI chip into production in September as it looks to double computing capacity

Meta Platforms plans to start manufacturing an AI chip from September as part of its plan ‌to boost overall computing power to 14 gigawatts next year. The tech firm's data center chip, code-named "Iris", is part of a four-generation project for Meta Training and Inference Accelerators (MTIA) that it will design in-house.

The plan is to use custom-built silicon ​to improve the AI that powers its Facebook and Instagram social media platforms. The approach ​is likely to help the firm lower its massive computing costs and gain more independence from chip suppliers such as Nvidia and AMD.

🕸 Google's new feature will disclose which ads are made with AI.

AI makes it easier for businesses to create ads, place their brand’s products in various settings, and save money on real-world e-commerce photography. But it can also be misleading if consumers don’t know that what they’re looking at isn’t a real product photo. While Google prohibits misleading and deceptive ads, an ad can still leverage AI to create some type of synthetic or digitally altered content. Until now, that’s something Google only required election ads to disclose.

The tech giant said the new consumer-facing feature will be introduced to the “My Ad Center” panel, which anyone globally can access by clicking the three-dot menu or the info icon on the ads they see via Google Search, YouTube, and Google Discover. Now users also see an option that says “How this ad was made,” which will indicate if the ad was created or edited with AI.

🕵🏼‍♂️ INTERPOL-led global fraud crackdown arrests over 5,800, uncovers crypto laundering network tied to $122.5 million wallet

An INTERPOL-led global anti-fraud operation involving 97 countries and territories resulted in the arrest of 5,811 individuals and the interception of $293 million in illicit assets.

🟠Operation First Light, which ran from Jan. 15 through April 30, 2026, focused on combating social engineering scams, including business email compromise, sextortion, romance, impersonation, and investment scams, as well as associated money laundering activity, according to INTERPOL.

The operation also involved INTERPOL's Global Rapid Intervention of Payments (I-GRIP) mechanism, which enables authorities to block illicit fiat and virtual asset transfers rapidly.

❗️Over 142,000 victims were identified globally during the period, with 31,014 bank accounts blocked, 23,715 cases solved, 15,606 suspects identified, and 99 notices and diffusions issued, per INTERPOL.

🤖Mistral unveils AI model that navigates robots using single camera

French AI start-up Mistral has unveiled its first-ever model for embodied navigation, dubbed Robostral Navigate. The 8B model uses RGB images and plain-language instructions to guide a robot through complex environments.

Unlike other models that rely on multiple sensors or cameras, Robostral Navigate only requires a single RGB camera to operate. The new tech has been designed to let robots navigate through complicated spaces like offices, homes, commercial buildings, and outdoor areas without human intervention.

🤖 Physicist created a tiny universe where time emerged without a clock

A physicist at the University of Birmingham, Professor Giovanni Barontini, has created a laboratory "mini universe" to explore one of physics' biggest questions: what is time? His study, published in Physical Review Research, suggests that time can emerge from the behavior of a quantum system rather than being measured by a traditional clock.

The experiment used a cloud of 24,000 ultracold atoms inside an isolated system split into two regions by a thin barrier created with two laser beams of different frequencies. This produced two regions: an observed ("bright") region and an unobserved ("dark") region. The bright region repeatedly expanded and contracted, resembling a simplified version of a Big Bang.

Because the system was completely isolated, Barontini could reconstruct the sequence of events using only information from inside the mini universe itself, without referring to any outside laboratory clock. The results showed that time could emerge from changes taking place within the quantum system rather than existing as an independent background that always moves forward.

🇺🇸 Power company hikes data center bills by 30%, cuts residential electricity costs by 1.3%

Portland General Electric (PGE), Oregon’s largest electricity supplier, will increase its rate for large power consumers by 29.7%. Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) reports that the state’s Public Utility Commission (PUC) unanimously approved the increase, which will primarily affect large industries, data centers, and cryptocurrency mining operations.

Meanwhile, costs for residential users will decline. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek called this move “a win for Oregonians.”

“We must continue to do whatever we can to keep working families and small businesses from absorbing the costs of data center energy use,” — Kotek said.

Britain has designated cloud service providers Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Oracle as critical third-party suppliers to its financial sector, bringing them under direct regulatory oversight from July 13. ⚖️ OKX, MetaMask, Matter Labs back dispute resolution court for AI agents

A group of crypto and Web3 firms that includes OKX, MetaMask, Matter Labs and Genlayer have formed the “Internet Court” to reach dispute resolutions between AI agents.

➡️ These days, AI agents negotiate and pay one another without humans in the loop, but as with human-to-human transactions, agent-to-agent transactions will run into contractual disagreements.

❗️The problem is that agentic systems have no way to settle these disputes, and traditional courts are not built to handle such cases. Hence the need for the 27-firm-backed protocol, led by the Genlayer Foundation, which makes AI-based payments, escrow and dispute resolution interoperable, according to a press release.

“Internet Court is the shared place agents can turn to when a deal goes wrong. Machine-speed money needs machine-speed adjudication,” — said David Riudor, CEO and co-founder of the GenLayer Foundation.

“With our founding members, we’re turning a fragmented space into a single open skill that any agent can use to make financial commitments hold up, even when they're contested,” — said Albert Castellana, co-founder and CEO of GenLayer Labs.
