The EU is set to revisit its crypto rules in an attempt to address the issue of multiple crypto-asset issuances from non-EU jurisdictions and to expand the framework to cover emerging technologies.
โReopening the file seems unavoidable at this stage, not only in light of the position expressed by several European institutions (not least the ECB), but also to cater for the most recent regulatory and technological developments worldwide,โ a EU diplomat said.
As US president Donald Trump has made significant investments in stablecoins, the EU is under growing pressure to clarify how to regulate non-EU companies that issue those crypto assets and operate in Europe.

Working with surgeons from the University of California San Diego, a humanoid robot successfully carried out a gallbladder removal. In a second operation, two humanoids working side by side performed a laparoscopic gallbladder removal. Both of the procedures for the proof-of-concept experiment were performed on non-primate mammals.
โRemotely operated and autonomous humanoid robots have real potential for amplifying access to critical surgeries to which patients would otherwise not have access.
This can help address the healthcare crisis not only in the United States, but also worldwide,โ โ said Michael Yip, a faculty member in the UC San Diego Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Meta Platforms plans to start manufacturing an AI chip from September as part of its plan โto boost overall computing power to 14 gigawatts next year. The tech firm's data center chip, code-named "Iris", is part of a four-generation project for Meta Training and Inference Accelerators (MTIA) that it will design in-house.
The plan is to use custom-built silicon โto improve the AI that powers its Facebook and Instagram social media platforms. The approach โis likely to help the firm lower its massive computing costs and gain more independence from chip suppliers such as Nvidia and AMD.

AI makes it easier for businesses to create ads, place their brandโs products in various settings, and save money on real-world e-commerce photography. But it can also be misleading if consumers donโt know that what theyโre looking at isnโt a real product photo. While Google prohibits misleading and deceptive ads, an ad can still leverage AI to create some type of synthetic or digitally altered content. Until now, thatโs something Google only required election ads to disclose.
The tech giant said the new consumer-facing feature will be introduced to the โMy Ad Centerโ panel, which anyone globally can access by clicking the three-dot menu or the info icon on the ads they see via Google Search, YouTube, and Google Discover. Now users also see an option that says โHow this ad was made,โ which will indicate if the ad was created or edited with AI.

French AI start-up Mistral has unveiled its first-ever model for embodied navigation, dubbed Robostral Navigate. The 8B model uses RGB images and plain-language instructions to guide a robot through complex environments.
Unlike other models that rely on multiple sensors or cameras, Robostral Navigate only requires a single RGB camera to operate. The new tech has been designed to let robots navigate through complicated spaces like offices, homes, commercial buildings, and outdoor areas without human intervention.

A physicist at the University of Birmingham, Professor Giovanni Barontini, has created a laboratory "mini universe" to explore one of physics' biggest questions: what is time? His study, published in Physical Review Research, suggests that time can emerge from the behavior of a quantum system rather than being measured by a traditional clock.
The experiment used a cloud of 24,000 ultracold atoms inside an isolated system split into two regions by a thin barrier created with two laser beams of different frequencies. This produced two regions: an observed ("bright") region and an unobserved ("dark") region. The bright region repeatedly expanded and contracted, resembling a simplified version of a Big Bang.
Because the system was completely isolated, Barontini could reconstruct the sequence of events using only information from inside the mini universe itself, without referring to any outside laboratory clock. The results showed that time could emerge from changes taking place within the quantum system rather than existing as an independent background that always moves forward.

Meanwhile, costs for residential users will decline. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek called this move โa win for Oregonians.โ
โWe must continue to do whatever we can to keep working families and small businesses from absorbing the costs of data center energy use,โ โ Kotek said.
