Google will start offering specialist AI models from software company SandboxAQ through its cloud service, expanding enterprise and research access to technology designed to accelerate drug discovery, materials science and semiconductor manufacturing.
Google will add SandboxAQโs so-called large quantitative models to its cloud marketplace, allowing researchers to combine Googleโs Gemini language models with AI systems trained on scientific equations and laboratory data. Unlike large language models, which excel at generating text, large quantitative models are trained on numerical data to help solve problems in chemistry, biology and physics.

NY, the world's largest custody bank overseeing $59 trillion in assets, is deepening its ties with Circle (CRCL) as the Wall Street bank ramps up its stablecoin services.
The move expands BNY's role in the USDC ecosystem. The bank already serves as the primary custodian of the reserves backing the stablecoin. The new offering lets institutions manage both their cash and digital assets through a single platform.
"As digital assets become increasingly integrated into financial markets, institutions need infrastructure that seamlessly works across traditional and blockchain-based systems," said Carolyn Weinberg, chief product and innovation officer at BNY.

Today, Open Standard announces Open USD, a new stablecoin for global money movement.
โ Build for scale. Businesses can mint and redeem Open USD at no cost and with no artificial limits on volume.
โ Earn by default. Partners receive all of the earnings from Open USDโs reserves, less a small management fee to cover Open USDโs operational costs.
โ Govern collaboratively. Open USD will be operated by Open Standard, an independent company with a board made up of Open USDโs partners, ensuring decisions are made for the collective interest, not a single entity.
"Existing stablecoins have great strengths, but to use them at scale, businesses need something thatโs open, low-cost, high-throughput, broadly accessible, and aligned to their interests. Weโre thrilled to bring together over 140 businesses to launch Open USD. Itโs a stablecoin built for the internet economy, designed by the businesses growing it," said Zach Abrams, Founding CEO of Open Standard.
Designed with businesses in mind, Open USD is built to scale: open, low-cost, high-throughput, and broadly accessible. Open USD will be live later this year.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung announced an 800 trillion won ($520 billion) public-private investment plan alongside Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to expand the country's chipmaking capacity. He added that only through cooperation between the private and public sectors could South Korea hope to triumph.
"Right now is truly a decisive moment, as the landscape of the global economy is being reshaped," Lee said. "Major countries, including the U.S. and China, are engaged in all-out competition with massive stakes."
The centerpiece of the partnership is the construction of four production facilities, with Samsung and SK Hynix each building two. Samsung will also build packaging facilities for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips in Chungcheong as demand for the advanced components soars.

Anthropic PBC is releasing new software aimed at helping scientists automate research, in the hopes of reducing some of the tedious aspects of their work. Claude Science, which the company plans to roll out Tuesday, can be used to automate a range of biology and chemistry tasks, such as predicting protein structures.
The software brings together a number of tools scientists commonly use, including more than 60 scientific databases. The idea is to make it simpler for scientists to automate multistep tasks, ask questions using plain language, and get answers without having to query many individual sources of information.

Instead of relying on implants, Brain2Qwerty uses a non-invasive magnetoencephalography (MEG) scanner to read the faint changes in a brainโs magnetic fields due to brain activity and then correlate this to keypresses on a virtual keyboard. The company says that its average accuracy now hits 61%, with the best participant capable of hitting as much as 78% word accuracy.
"We believe this research has the potential to make a real difference for the millions of people who suffer from brain lesions or disorders that prevent them from communicating." Meta wrote on X.
Brain2Qwerty advances beyond character-level performance to decoding words and semantics, enabling accuracy for overall communication. It's an important development in neuroprosthetics, and it could eventually result in medical devices that patients could use to restore or improve their quality of life.
