A major experiment led by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) found that tokenization could help fix some of the biggest pain points in cross-border payments, from slow settlement times to costly reconciliation between banks.

โžก๏ธProject Agorรก, a joint effort between the BIS, seven central banks and more than 40 private financial institutions, concluded that tokenized central bank reserves and commercial bank deposits could support atomic settlement across currencies and jurisdictions.

๐ŸŸ The initiative involved the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Bank of England, Bank of Japan, Swiss National Bank and other central banks alongside large commercial banks and financial firms.

Project Agorรก participants now plan to move beyond simulations toward testing real-value transactions involving some currencies and institutions. The Bank of Canada also joined the initiative this week. ๐Ÿค

โ—๏ธA cross-border transfers can bounce between several intermediary banks before reaching its destination at present, often taking days to settle and creating operational risks along the way. Using tokenization and blockchain rails could mean fewer delays and failed payments in the global financial system, the report showed.

๐Ÿค– Startup unveils underwater drone designed for protecting undersea cables

A startup just revealed an AI-powered uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV) designed to operate at depths of up to 1,640 feet (500 meters) and come with a 22-pound (10-kilogram) payload. This undersea drone is capable of subsea infrastructure protection, inspections, and intervention. It can operate independently for up to four hours, but can extend indefinitely if tethered to a power source from the surface.

This drone, called the SU10 and built by SYOS, can launch directly from shore, through a crewed mothership, or via a larger uncrewed surface ship. The SU10 could potentially excel at monitoring and protecting undersea cables. If it detects a disruption, it could immediately alert the operator, who can then take over to verify that information.

Chinaโ€™s Shenzhou-21 astronauts returned to Earth on Friday after spending more than 200 days aboard the Tiangong space station, marking the longest mission ever completed by a Chinese crew. The astronauts had lived and worked in orbit since last year, carrying out scientific experiments and helping test Chinaโ€™s emergency space response systems.

Dutch authorities dismantled a massive botnet that controlled more than 17 million infected devices in one of the largest cybercrime disruptions in recent years.

The operation involved the Dutch National Police and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). Investigators identified around 200 servers that managed the networkโ€™s infrastructure. Officials said the servers operated from hosting facilities inside the Netherlands.

The investigation started after a cybersecurity researcher alerted the NCSC about suspicious activity tied to a sprawling proxy network. Authorities traced the infrastructure and launched a joint probe with law enforcement agencies.

Wi-Fi 8 is on the horizon, and TP-Link announced the roadmap for its next-generation platform of Wi-Fi 8 (802.11bn) products.

According to the company, the first product to launch will be a standalone Archer 8 Wi-Fi 8 router in October 2026 (tentatively). That will be followed by the company's first Deco 8 mesh router during Q1 2027 and a Roam 8 travel router during Q2 2027. TP-Link hopes to round out its Wi-Fi 8 networking portfolio in Q2 2027 with a line of range extenders and client adapters (likely in both USB and PCIe versions).

Wi-Fi 8 isn't tasked with bringing another huge leap in theoretical speeds for wireless devices, as were promised with older Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 standards. Instead, Wi-Fi 8 focuses on improving real-world performance and range so that devices can more closely approach the theoretical speeds promised in earlier Wi-Fi iterations.

The SEC has sued Texas resident Nathan Fuller, alleging he raised about $12.3 million from roughly 150 investors through a crypto investment scheme built around false claims of AI-powered trading bots, guaranteed returns and insurance protections.

๐Ÿ“„ According to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Fuller operated through Privvy Investments LLC and the assumed business names Privvy Investments and Gateway Digital Investments.

The SEC says he sold passive joint-venture interests in a purported crypto arbitrage trading operation from at least October 2022 through mid-2024.

โžก๏ธThe agency claims that Fuller told investors that proprietary AI-based trading bots could scan crypto markets, execute high-frequency arbitrage trades and limit losses through stop-loss coding.

โžก๏ธThe complaint alleges investors were promised returns of 40% to 50% within 30 to 45 days and, in some cases, exceeding 100% in less than a month.

โ—๏ธThe SEC says those representations were false. According to the complaint, only about $380,000, or roughly 3% of investor funds, was used to purchase cryptocurrency without the involvement of bots. The agency says those trades were conducted without the advertised bots and generated no profits.

The SEC charged Fuller with violating the registration and antifraud provisions of federal securities laws and is seeking permanent injunctions, disgorgement, civil penalties and a ban on participating in securities offerings.

For decades, the computing industry has followed a simple formula: make transistors smaller and pack more of them onto a chip. That strategy fueled the extraordinary rise in computing power predicted by Moore's law. But as components approach atomic scales, engineers are increasingly running into the physical limits of silicon and the effects of quantum mechanics.

A team led by University of Illinois Grainger College of Engineering materials science and engineering professor Qing Cao has demonstrated a new method for stacking multiple layers of silicon electronics directly on top of one another.

โžก๏ธThe approach could dramatically increase computing density, improve performance, and reduce energy consumption while extending the progress that has driven the semiconductor industry for more than half a century.

"For the first time, we have met the thermal budget of monolithic 3D integration using standard single-crystalline silicon and delivered unprecedented performance," โ€” Cao said.


The researchers report that their process achieves device yields of 98โ€’100% while using standard single-crystalline silicon, the semiconductor material that underpins modern electronics. The results suggest the technique could eventually be adopted by commercial chip manufacturers.
