🌐 Researchers identify people through ordinary Wi-Fi routers with 99.5% accuracy

Security researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany have published a paper demonstrating that unencrypted beamforming data broadcast by Wi-Fi devices during normal operation can be used to identify individuals walking through a room with 99.5% accuracy, regardless of whether the individuals are carrying Wi-Fi devices. The tactic leverages the router's beamforming tech to identify individuals with up to 99.5% accuracy, and it works with existing routers, too.

The system, called BFId, requires no specialized hardware, no access to the target Wi-Fi network, and works even if the person being tracked isn't carrying a wireless device. The team tested the attack on 197 participants, the largest dataset ever used in Wi-Fi-based identification works, and plans to present its findings at the ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (CCS) in Taipei.

🤝 Greenland-based rare earth mining deal to strengthen US supply chains

Critical Metals Corp (CRML) has signed a 15-year binding offtake agreement with REAlloys Inc. for rare earth element (REE) concentrate from its Tanbreez Project in southern Greenland. The 15-year deal gives the US access to a long-term Greenland rare earth supply outside China.

As per the agreement, REalloys will purchase 15% of Tanbreez’s annual REE concentrate production, with priority rights in respect of concentrate volumes containing elevated concentrations of the HREE like Dysprosium and Terbium, together with a Right of First Refusal over additional volumes.

That challenge has helped make glioblastoma one of the deadliest forms of cancer, with most patients surviving little more than a year after diagnosis despite aggressive treatment. Now, researchers report early evidence that a modified form of vitamin B12 may be able to slip through that barrier and deliver a cancer-fighting molecule directly into brain tumors.

The findings, published in Oncoscience, focus on nitrosylcobalamin (NO-Cbl), a nitric oxide-releasing vitamin B12 analog. The results showed that NO-Cbl produced antitumor effects across multiple cancer types. Central nervous system tumor cell lines showed moderate sensitivity to the treatment.

California lawmakers may be backing away from a controversial age-verification requirement bill that alarmed Linux and open-source developers earlier this year, after a new amendment bill proposed exempting most open-source operating systems from the state’s upcoming Digital Age Assurance Act.

❗️In practice, that would likely exempt most mainstream Linux distributions — including Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, Arch Linux, and Mint — from compliance requirements scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027.

Assembly Bill 1856 (AB 1856), currently moving through California’s legislature ahead of committee reviews in June, would amend the state’s earlier age-assurance law by excluding software distributed under licenses that allow users to “copy, redistribute, and modify the software.”

The proposed amendment specifically states: “Operating system provider” does not mean a person or entity that distributes an operating system or application under license terms that permit a recipient to copy, redistribute, and modify the software.
