🤑🤑 A United Nations Capital Development Fund webinar has outlined a vision for a new international payments system, and Ripple and Stellar sit at its core.

In this video both networks are “directly mentioned and clearly shown in the international payments diagram as central parts of the global payments network.”

📑 The presentation describes an open, regulated payment inter-network designed to connect every major financial network on the planet. It places XRP alongside SWIFT, Visa, and Mastercard as equal participants in this global infrastructure.

“It’s not a new system, but it connects existing systems,” — the speaker said.


➡️ The goal is to build a system in which a payment initiated on any network should reach any other network, regardless of which platform processes it.

Ripple and Stellar were named directly alongside traditional financial giants. It’s not as alternatives, but as equal participants in the same infrastructure.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed an executive order aimed at addressing potential job losses from AI, as workers face an uncertain future with a technology that industry leaders themselves warn could have significant impacts on the labor market.

The order directs state agencies to evaluate policies that provide support to displaced workers — such as compensation offerings, temporary subsidized employment programs and workforce training programs — and put forward recommendations.

Chinese firms are accelerating the pace at which they propose new coal-fired power plants, even as the government moves to rein in growth after the rapid expansion in recent years.

Companies requested approval for 51 gigawatts of new plants in the first quarter of the year, according to Global Energy Monitor, ahead of the record pace set in 2025 that saw 162 gigawatts of new proposals over the full year. Construction has boomed since a spate of power shortages in 2021 and 2022 as the government touts coal’s role as a reliable back-up to intermittent renewables.

🤖 China’s photonic engine uses white light to move information, can support 6G networks

Scientists have claimed that their laser-powered engines may soon support “intelligent” 6G networks. The team demonstrated a laser-driven engine made from an easy-to-manufacture ceramic material that uses white light to move information over large distances.

“This is really a record with attractive performance beyond the traditional technology,” — says Zhiguo Xia of South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, China.


While conventional LED‑based visible light communication (VLC) systems typically operate over only a few meters, the novel photonic engine can move data over 1.2 kilometers. This is a key step toward developing next-generation, AI-enabled 6G wireless networks.

🌐 Researchers identify people through ordinary Wi-Fi routers with 99.5% accuracy

Security researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany have published a paper demonstrating that unencrypted beamforming data broadcast by Wi-Fi devices during normal operation can be used to identify individuals walking through a room with 99.5% accuracy, regardless of whether the individuals are carrying Wi-Fi devices. The tactic leverages the router's beamforming tech to identify individuals with up to 99.5% accuracy, and it works with existing routers, too.

The system, called BFId, requires no specialized hardware, no access to the target Wi-Fi network, and works even if the person being tracked isn't carrying a wireless device. The team tested the attack on 197 participants, the largest dataset ever used in Wi-Fi-based identification works, and plans to present its findings at the ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (CCS) in Taipei.
