Brazil's federal police carried out search and seizure warrants against former Rio de Janeiro Governor Claudio Castro and ordered privately owned refinery Refit to halt operations in a tax evasion investigation, a Supreme Court decision showed.
The court ordered Refit's owner, businessman Ricardo Magro, who lives in the United States, to be arrested on pre-trial detention. As the country's tax authority has carried out investigations into financial crimes over the past year, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has publicly called on U.S. President Donald Trump to arrest Magro.
In the decision, Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered Magro to be put on Interpol's red notice list, alerting foreign law enforcement agencies to arrest him. The ruling also froze about 52 billion reais ($10.3 billion) in assets, most belonging to Refit which is one of Brazil's largest chronic tax debtors, with tens of billions of reais owed to federal and state authorities.

"The Senate Banking Committee is putting in the work as it moves the Clarity Act forward… incredible leadership! Millions of Americans are already in this market. Ripple stands behind this bill because they deserve the same rules and protections as every other asset class. If the largest economy in the world is going to lead on crypto — and it must — this is the moment. Let's get it done!" — Brad Garlinghouse wrote on X.
"With legal clouds lifted and institutional capital proving remarkably sticky, the XRP Ledger is transforming into a compliance-grade tokenization and settlement layer, speaking the precise language that institutional capital does," — Sirkia added.

The Trump administration allowed a waiver that encouraged more Russian crude sales to lapse. The expiration effectively ends for now a brief period where the administration eased sanctions on some Russian oil, enabling purchases that would otherwise be barred.
The Trump administration issued an initial waiver in March and a second after the first expired in April — both applying only to a subset of Russian oil that had already been loaded onto tankers.

"I’d like to see everybody making chips in Taiwan come over to us in America. Taiwan was developed because we had presidents that didn’t know what the hell they were doing. They stole our chip industry," — Trump said.
This aligns with Trump's long-standing push for reshoring semiconductor manufacturing to the U.S. for economic and national security reasons. Taiwan (primarily via TSMC) produces about 90% of the world's most advanced chips, a vulnerability he's highlighted for years.

Enbridge Inc. “definitely would consider” backing a new oil pipeline to Canada’s west coast, its chief executive officer said, giving an early vote of confidence hours after Prime Minister Mark Carney signed an energy deal with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.
The Canada-Alberta pact opens the way to start construction on a new pipeline capable of carrying 1 million barrels a day of Canadian oil to the coast of British Columbia, from which it can be shipped to Asian countries that need the crude.

🕵🏼♂️ Arm Holdings to Face US Antitrust Probe Over Chip Tech
Arm Holdings Plc is facing an antitrust investigation by the US Federal Trade Commission over the UK company’s licensing of its semiconductor technology, part of ongoing global scrutiny of the business.
The US competition and consumer protection regulator is probing whether Arm is trying to illegally monopolize parts of the semiconductor market. The FTC is looking to determine if Arm will refuse or lower the quality of licenses for blueprints to develop central processing units — the brain of a computer — while ramping up efforts to develop its own chips.

Federal authorities requested an additional 1,500 National Guard troops to be deployed to Washington, D.C., as part of a “summer surge” of law enforcement ahead of the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
The escalation, if fulfilled, will bring the total of National Guard troops in the capital to 5,000. Authorities said the coordinated effort will attempt to crack down on criminal activity, including violence, drug and illegal firearm trafficking, and large, disorderly gatherings of teenagers.

Bipartisan House talks on expected AI legislation are coalescing around a plan to preempt a specific set of state laws that rein in cutting-edge AI developers, according to two tech lobbyists and three AI policy advocates familiar with the discussions.
The bill would specifically preempt AI safety laws like those recently passed by California and New York, which require top AI developers to disclose information about new models in order to identify critical safety or security risks. State AI laws that do not regulate model developers are not expected to be preempted.
