🇨🇳 China’s LineShine Supercomputer To Hit 2 ExaFlops With 47,000 CPUs and Zero Reliance on Foreign Chips

China has unveiled its new supercomputer, called LineShine, the fastest domestic supercomputer project. It'll be built in two phases and will deliver over 2 ExaFlops of compute. Currently, the world's fastest supercomputer is the AMD-based El Capitan, which has a peak compute of 2.8 Exaflops.

The entire system will house a total of 92 compute cabinets with a total of 47,000 CPUs, 36 network cabinets with large-scale expansion to hundreds of thousands of nodes, a million-port interconnect, and will all be assembled as China's largest supercomputing storage base. All of the tech inside the supercomputer will be domestically produced with zero reliance on international vendors.

🇺🇸 IBM to Add 750 Jobs in AI, Quantum Computing at Chicago Tech Hub

International Business Machines Corp. is deepening its bet on the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park in Chicago, with plans to add 750 jobs over the next five years.

“IBM’s investment in Illinois is a powerful vote of confidence in our state’s growing technology and quantum ecosystem and the world-class workforce that powers it,” — said Governor JB Pritzker.

The positions will be focused AI, quantum computing, cybersecurity and data science, according to the statement from the company and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. IBM, which will get $19 million from a state tax-credit program, said it would also establish the FutureNow Chicago center at the tech hub.

🔬 Apple Plans a Siri Camera Mode and Upgraded Visual AI in iOS 27

Apple is preparing to integrate AI more deeply into the iPhone camera with iOS 27. As part of the change, the company will move its Visual Intelligence feature — currently tied to the Camera Control button — into the camera app itself. That will make it more prominent within the iPhone interface.

Apple is also adding new capabilities. The camera will be able “to scan nutrition labels on food packaging to log dietary data” and “capture contact information to save directly to the address book”.

Apple is set to unveil iOS 27 and its broader AI strategy at WWDC26 in June, with a public release expected this fall.

Hyundai Motor Co. unveiled a next-generation infotainment system as South Korea’s top automaker accelerates its shift toward software-defined vehicles. The new Pleos Connect system, which draws on Tesla Inc.’s minimalist aesthetic, pairs a wide central screen touch display designed to stay within the driver’s line of sight.

Powering the new system is the Gleo AI, a voice assistant that is capable of understanding regular conversations instead of forcing users into giving robotic voice commands. Hyundai has retained physical controls on the steering wheel and below the screen to improve safety and usability.

⚡️ Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon Expand Classified Military AI Use

The Pentagon has struck agreements with four more technology companies for expanded use of advanced AI tools on classified military networks.
