⚡️Trump Evacuated, Gunman Detained After Shooting at Press Dinner

President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance were evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington Saturday after shots were fired at the hotel where the event was taking place.

“A man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service,” — Trump said at a press briefing at the White House Saturday.

Trump, in a late-night press conference at the White House, said one law enforcement officer was shot, but that the officer’s bulletproof vest did its job. A suspect is in custody.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro says White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter Cole Allen, a 31-year-old California teacher, is being charged with two counts: using a firearm during a crime of violence, and assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon.

🕵🏼‍♂️🇨🇦 Mobile SMS blasters in vehicles prowled Canadian streets, causing 13 million network disruptions and infiltrating tens of thousands of devices.

Toronto police arrested three people involved in an SMS blaster scheme, in which the suspects drove around downtown Toronto with the devices running in the backs of their cars. These appliances mimic cell sites, intercept phone signals, and are used to send fraudulent text messages.

It recorded 13 million network disruptions. Affect devices were restricted from accessing legitimate cellular networks and emergency services such as 911.

This is the first-of-its-kind operation in Canada, and that the threat had ceased once the operation was broken up. Still, the authorities warned that people should remain vigilant, as they can still receive fraudulent texts via traditional channels.

🇨🇳 Chinese-led team creates self-propelling material for uranium extraction from seawater

Researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences have engineered a light-driven micromotor capable of navigating water and actively capturing uranium ions, marking a step forward in advanced materials for resource extraction.

Developed at its Qinghai Institute of Salt Lakes, the system is based on a metal-organic framework (MOF) that converts light into motion, allowing it to function as a self-propelling collector at the microscale. Uranium remains the critical fuel for nuclear reactors, and despite an estimated 4.5 billion tonnes dissolved in seawater, its extremely low concentration has long made extraction technically complex and economically unviable.

Further refinement is ongoing, emphasizing that translating the system into real-world applications will require sustained research and engineering improvements.

🇩🇪 New solar panels that imitate roof tiles can retain around 95% of their power

German researchers have developed a technique for applying realistic designs to photovoltaic (PV) modules that allow them to imitate roof tiles, and blend more seamlessly into buildings. The new method, called ShadeCut, was invented by a research team at Freiburg’s Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE).

It enables complex visual patterns while also retaining approximately 95% of the power output of an uncoated module. The novel approach builds on the institute’s MorphoColor technology, a bio-inspired coating for solar panels. Such adaptability could help expand the role of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), where solar panels are used directly into the structure of a building rather than just mounted on top.
