Adm. Samuel Paparo, head of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, has told Congress the military is running a live node on the Bitcoin network and testing it for national security purposes.
"Bitcoin has incredible potential as a tool for American power projection," โ he said. Paparo also added that it has great potential as tool for national security.
Paparo said the node is not being used to mine Bitcoin but to monitor activity and run operational tests on securing and protecting networks using the Bitcoin protocol.
"We have a node on the Bitcoin network right now," โ Paparo said, responding to questions from Rep. Lance Gooden. "We're not mining Bitcoin. We're using it to monitor, and we're doing a number of operational tests to secure and protect networks using the Bitcoin protocol."
The disclosure is notable because Bitcoin is designed to resist control by powerful governments, yet a U.S. combatant command is now directly participating in the peer-to-peer network.

Amazon Inc. and Meta Platforms Inc. have struck a multibillion-dollar deal for the social-media giant to rent hundreds of thousands of Amazonโs general-purpose chips for its AI efforts. The multiyear deal gives Meta access to the Graviton line of processors.
Meta is also spending aggressively to develop its own silicon to help reduce costs and decrease its dependence on third-party chipmakers. The company is currently developing four iterations of its MTIA chip for AI purposes, and recently announced an expanded partnership with Broadcom for help designing and building those chips.

Researchers at Princeton University have created a three-dimensional neural network device that combines living brain cells and advanced embedded electronics. This 3D bioelectronic computer was programmed to differentiate patterns using computational techniques.
To build the device, the team created a 3D mesh of microscopic wires and electrodes supported by a thin layer of epoxy. They then cultured tens of thousands of neurons into a vast 3D network that can perform computation, using the mesh as a scaffold.
The technology couldn't only help uncover the computing secrets of the brain but can also assist in understanding and possibly treating neurological diseases. It could also play a role in solving one of AIโs key bottlenecks: power consumption.

Tennessee has become the second U.S. state to outright ban crypto ATMs, making it a misdemeanor to operate or host the machines anywhere in the state. Gov. Bill Lee signed House Bill 2505 into law on April 13 after it passed both chambers unanimously. It was officially codified on Thursday and will take effect July 1.

The DeFi Education Fund, alongside 35 other crypto industry leaders, is urging the SEC to formalize its recent decentralized finance interface guidance into formal rulemaking โ a move supporters see as positive for long-term blockchain development.
"Specifically, the Commission should consider adopting a principles-based framework that provides clear, objective criteria for when activity falls within the definition of โbroker,โ iterating on the criteria in the Statement," โ the groups said in the letter.
"Finalizing these principles would provide the legal certainty needed to support responsible innovation while preserving the Commissionโs ability to regulate the intermediaries that pose the risks that the broker-dealer regulatory regime was designed to address," โ the groups added.
On April 13, the SEC's Division of Trading and Markets released a staff statement to delineate that interfaces, such as DeFi wallets, would generally not be considered a broker-dealer and said it was an "interim step while the Commission continues to consider various regulatory issues."

A UK clean energy firm, Global OTEC, announced it has completed the offshore installation of a floating prototype platform in the Canary Islands. This marks the first purpose-built system designed to generate continuous electricity from ocean temperature differences at sea.
OTEC works by using the natural temperature difference between warm surface water and cold deep-sea water. Warm water heats a low-boiling-point working fluid, producing vapor that drives a turbine. Cold water from depths of up to about 3,280 feet then condenses the vapor back into liquid, allowing the cycle to repeat and generate electricity continuously.
Because it operates continuously, it can provide baseload power around the clock rather than depending on weather conditions. With testing now underway, the company plans to deploy its first OTEC Power Module in Hawaiโi.

The new app signs photos and videos at the moment of capture, producing a tamper-proof record that links content to the device that captured it. Chinese automotive giant Geely has introduced its first purpose-built robotaxi prototype, the Eva Cab. Unlike retrofitted vehicles, the model is designed from the ground up around AI, integrating a 196-billion-parameter Step 3.5 model with the companyโs H9 high-level autonomous driving system.
According to Geely, the system reaches inference speeds of 350 TPS and can react up to three times faster than a human driver.
