⚖️ More than 100 crypto firms urge Senate to move on U.S. market structure bill

Acoalition of U.S. crypto companies and trade groups called on the Senate Banking Committee to proceed with a markup of the Clarity Act, a bill that would create a federal framework for crypto markets. More than 100 signatories are backing the effort.

These include high-profile companies including Coinbase, Circle Internet, Kraken, Ripple, Andreessen Horowitz, Paradigm, Consensys, Anchorage Digital and Galaxy Digital alongside developer groups, state blockchain associations and university chapters of Stand With Crypto.

➡️ In a letter to Chairman Tim Scott, Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren Subcommittee Chairwoman Cynthia Lummis and Ranking Member Ruben Gallego, the group argued that action by government agencies alone cannot deliver stable rules.

The coalition flagged six priorities for lawmakers to address.🔣These include preserving consumer rewards tied to payment stablecoins, defining oversight roles for the SEC and CFTC, and protecting developers who build non-custodial tools. It also called for disclosure rules that are easier to follow and a federal standard that avoids a patchwork of state laws.

❗️The group warned that the absence of U.S. legislation risks pushing investment, jobs and development offshore.

"America needs clear, comprehensive rules for digital asset markets. It is a global race to the top, and it is important for the U.S. to lead,” — Ji Hun Kim, CEO of the Crypto Council for Innovation, in an email.

🇺🇸 US Seeks to Halt US AI Model ‘Exploitation’ by Chinese Rivals

The Trump administration unveiled measures aimed at preventing Chinese developers from improperly using leading American AI models to build a rival generation of chatbots, marking the first major US response to Silicon Valley companies’ complaints that China is piggybacking on their success.

In a memo the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy said it will promote wider information sharing by US-based developers and increase efforts to help the industry detect unauthorized extraction of their AI models. The US government will also work with industry to determine how to rein in such abuses and hold bad actors accountable.

🇺🇸 Pentagon ends mandatory flu vaccines for service members

The Defense Department said effective immediately, the annual influenza vaccine is voluntary for all active-duty and reserve troops, including civilian personnel in the department.

“The notion that a flu vaccine must be mandatory for every service member, everywhere, in every circumstance, at all times, is just overly broad and not rational,” — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said.

Service members may still choose to receive the vaccine, but it is no longer a condition of service, marking a sweeping reversal of a longstanding health policy.

🇺🇸🤑 U.S. military runs Bitcoin node, sees crypto as power projection versus China

Adm. Samuel Paparo, head of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, has told Congress the military is running a live node on the Bitcoin network and testing it for national security purposes.

"Bitcoin has incredible potential as a tool for American power projection," — he said. Paparo also added that it has great potential as tool for national security.

Paparo said the node is not being used to mine Bitcoin but to monitor activity and run operational tests on securing and protecting networks using the Bitcoin protocol.

"We have a node on the Bitcoin network right now," — Paparo said, responding to questions from Rep. Lance Gooden. "We're not mining Bitcoin. We're using it to monitor, and we're doing a number of operational tests to secure and protect networks using the Bitcoin protocol."

The disclosure is notable because Bitcoin is designed to resist control by powerful governments, yet a U.S. combatant command is now directly participating in the peer-to-peer network.

🤖 New 3D device computes using living brain cells

Researchers at Princeton University have created a three-dimensional neural network device that combines living brain cells and advanced embedded electronics. This 3D bioelectronic computer was programmed to differentiate patterns using computational techniques.

To build the device, the team created a 3D mesh of microscopic wires and electrodes supported by a thin layer of epoxy. They then cultured tens of thousands of neurons into a vast 3D network that can perform computation, using the mesh as a scaffold.

The technology couldn't only help uncover the computing secrets of the brain but can also assist in understanding and possibly treating neurological diseases. It could also play a role in solving one of AI’s key bottlenecks: power consumption.
