Linux creator Linus Torvalds said that there was "zero real reason" to continue support for the 486 CPU — it can be detrimental to upstream Linux kernel development efforts. The first examples were released in 1989, and modern Linux distros continue to grow more resource-hungry.

OpenAI urged the attorneys general of California and Delaware to investigate potential “improper and anti-competitive behavior” by Elon Musk in his efforts to block OpenAI from restructuring as a for-profit company.
“Musk has repeatedly attempted – and failed – to wrest control of the nonprofit for his personal gain in a bid to take control over the future of AI,” — Jason Kwon, chief strategy officer at OpenAI, said in a letter to both state officials.
Jason Kwon also alleged that Musk has been working to undermine OpenAI through various “attacks” on the company, including by working with Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg. Jury selection for the trial is slated to begin on April 27, in the Northern District of California.

Injuries that remain unhealed for more than a month are classified as chronic wounds. Globally, about 12 million people are affected each year, including roughly 4.5 million in the US. Among these patients, approximately one in five eventually undergoes amputation, highlighting the seriousness of the condition.
Researchers at UC Riverside have created a new oxygen-delivering gel designed to help these injuries heal before they progress to limb loss. This gel adjusts to the exact shape of the wound, reaching into small gaps where oxygen is typically lowest, and infection risk is highest. Before it solidifies, it molds closely to the contours of the injured tissue. The team’s strategy to counter hypoxia using a gel is described in Nature Communications Materials.
Experiments using diabetic and older mice, which develop wounds similar to those seen in older adults, showed striking results — wounds closed in about 23 days, and the animals survived. This innovation represents a chance to reduce amputations, improve quality of life, and give the body what it needs to heal itself.

Anthropic released a preview of its new frontier model, Mythos, a more powerful, unreleased AI model to help prepare for possible cyberattacks. Mythos is a general-purpose model for Anthropic’s Claude AI systems that the company claims has strong agentic coding and reasoning skills. Over the past few weeks, Mythos identified “thousands of zero-day vulnerabilities, many of them critical.” Many of the vulnerabilities are one to two decades old.
The model’s limited debut is part of a new security initiative, dubbed Project Glasswing. Anthropic is forming an initiative called Project Glasswing with Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Cisco Systems. The companies will get access to Mythos to hunt for flaws in their products and share findings with industry peers.

Against this backdrop of rapid regulatory progress, Ripple is providing the critical crypto solutions needed to power Africa’s expanding digital economy. 2026 is shaping up to be a watershed year for several African jurisdictions who have taken a lead in developing local digital assets regulation.
➠ From a collaboration with Mercy Corps Ventures in Kenya to improve the speed and transparency of aid delivery, to three partnerships with Chipper Cash, VALR and Yellow Card that expand institutional access, RLUSD has seen strong demand across Africa.
Today, roughly eight African countries have implemented some form of crypto-specific regulation, with additional jurisdictions working toward formal frameworks. These initiatives typically focus on licensing digital asset service providers, strengthening anti-money laundering (AML) requirements and establishing consumer protection standards.
Africa remains one of the world’s most compelling regions for digital asset adoption and momentum. As the continent’s regulatory frameworks mature, its next phase of growth will be defined by investments in infrastructure, greater institutional participation and a deeper integration of digital assets into its financial systems.
Clear regulation enables innovation.

A PC owner has credited their cat with saving them from a dangerous situation after their NVIDIA RTX 4090 began to melt and smoke while unattended. The incident started when the user stepped away from their computer, only to hear their cat meowing unusually loudly from another room.
When they returned, they discovered smoke coming from their PC along with a strong burning smell, caused by a melted GPU power connector. The owner quickly unplugged the system to prevent further damage after noticing the PC wouldn’t shut down normally, potentially avoiding a more serious fire.

The vote in Port Washington appears to be the first time any U.S. municipality will go to the ballot to kneecap data center development. At least three other U.S. cities are gearing up for referendums of their own this year.
“None of us are specifically anti-development,”— said Carri Prom, co-founder of the nonprofit Great Lakes Neighbors United. “We’re not even really anti-tech. It’s just that we want responsible development, and we want responsible tech moving forward.”
The referendum won’t actually derail the proposed $15 billion, 1.3-gigawatt data center campus from OpenAI and Oracle, one of multiple “Stargate” AI infrastructure megaprojects. Rather, it would allow residents to potentially obstruct future projects by requiring city leaders to obtain voter approval before awarding developers lucrative tax incentives.

A new perspective on cross-border payments is taking shape as established systems begin to align with emerging technologies. A SWIFT document presents a visual breakdown of the global payments landscape, where multiple providers compete across layers.
Ripple and Stellar appear alongside traditional financial players. The document situates these blockchain-based solutions within the evolving payments ecosystem. The positioning matters, as it shows how newer technologies now sit closer to the core infrastructure that banks rely on.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko signed a 12-point plan laying out areas of cooperation after talks in Moscow in December. The documents, which haven't previously been made public, show how close Budapest and Moscow hope to become.
Key point — a commitment to “reverse the negative trend in bilateral trade” after the transfer of goods fell as a result of the EU’s sanctions on Russia. The agreement opens the door to Russian companies breaking ground on new electricity and hydrogen projects in Hungary and closer cooperation on oil, gas and nuclear fuel. The deal also sets out the cooperation in areas as education (opening up exchange programs for graduate students), sport, industry, health care, agriculture, construction.

Meta released an AI model called Muse Spark — the first in the Muse family of models developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs. It's available today at meta.ai and the Meta AI app.
One major application is to help people learn about and improve their health. Muse Spark can generate interactive displays that unpack and explain health information such as the nutritional content of various foods or muscles activated during exercise. AI model also performs well with visual STEM questions which can lead to “interactive experiences like creating fun minigames or troubleshooting your home appliances.”
