🗣 AI may soon detect cancer just by listening to you speak

Scientists found that subtle changes in a person’s voice can reveal abnormalities in the vocal folds. These “vocal fold lesions” may be harmless, such as nodules or polyps, but they can also signal early-stage laryngeal cancer. The findings point to a potential new use for AI: identifying early warning signs of cancer through voice analysis.

With this dataset scientists could use vocal biomarkers to distinguish voices from patients with vocal fold lesions from those without such lesions. The researchers examined tone, pitch, volume, and clarity using the first public release of the Bridge2AI-Voice dataset, which includes 12,523 recordings from 306 participants across North America. The results suggest that Bridge2AI-Voice could soon help make the voice a practical biomarker for cancer risk in clinical care.

💊 Scientists create healing gel that could stop chronic wounds from turning deadly

Injuries that remain unhealed for more than a month are classified as chronic wounds. Globally, about 12 million people are affected each year, including roughly 4.5 million in the US. Among these patients, approximately one in five eventually undergoes amputation, highlighting the seriousness of the condition.

Researchers at UC Riverside have created a new oxygen-delivering gel designed to help these injuries heal before they progress to limb loss. This gel adjusts to the exact shape of the wound, reaching into small gaps where oxygen is typically lowest, and infection risk is highest. Before it solidifies, it molds closely to the contours of the injured tissue. The team’s strategy to counter hypoxia using a gel is described in Nature Communications Materials.

Experiments using diabetic and older mice, which develop wounds similar to those seen in older adults, showed striking results — wounds closed in about 23 days, and the animals survived. This innovation represents a chance to reduce amputations, improve quality of life, and give the body what it needs to heal itself.

The proposed rule would establish a prudential framework for FDIC-supervised permitted payment stablecoins issuers, including requirements related to reserve assets, redemption, capital, and risk management standards.

The proposed rule would also establish requirements for FDIC-supervised permitted payment stablecoin issuers and insured depository institutions (IDIs) that provide certain payment stablecoin related custodial and safekeeping services.

🆕 Anthropic debuts preview of powerful new AI model Mythos in new cybersecurity initiative

Anthropic released a preview of its new frontier model, Mythos, a more powerful, unreleased AI model to help prepare for possible cyberattacks. Mythos is a general-purpose model for Anthropic’s Claude AI systems that the company claims has strong agentic coding and reasoning skills. Over the past few weeks, Mythos identified “thousands of zero-day vulnerabilities, many of them critical.” Many of the vulnerabilities are one to two decades old.

The model’s limited debut is part of a new security initiative, dubbed Project Glasswing. Anthropic is forming an initiative called Project Glasswing with Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Cisco Systems. The companies will get access to Mythos to hunt for flaws in their products and share findings with industry peers.
