The root cause of the exploit wasn’t a vulnerability in the Sui network itself—it stemmed from a bug in a math library integrated by Cetus. That said, the impact on users was real, and the swift, responsible action by both teams deserves recognition:
Sui validators acted quickly, freezing the attacker’s wallets within hours. Over $160M in compromised funds were locked before they could be moved off-chain — Cetus has yet to explain how they’ll handle recovery.
Cetus has published a detailed post-mortem and a public recovery plan — they’ll also be hosting a community call soon to address open questions.
A validator vote is underway to restore LP assets. The Sui Foundation has pledged an additional $10M to strengthen security across the ecosystem. Next steps include more frequent audits, higher bug bounty rewards, formal code verification, and reinforced infrastructure support.
