Welcome Home
On behalf of the entire staff team, we'd like to welcome you back to PTP. The last few months have been long and tumultuous to say the least, but now we can finally put the downtime behind us and get back to doing what we do best.
We realize how difficult these past few months have been for all of you, because trust us: it’s been hard on us too. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who donated in our time of need. It is not lost on any of us how wonderful our community is and how overwhelmingly positive the community has been during the process. We will be arranging a donation validation system once things settle down, so that those of you who donated can claim your perks (to be announced at a later date).
How We Got Here
Due to personal circumstances, our long-term producer paperk had to step away, meaning some of our site infrastructure suddenly went down. This caused our site, IRC, and tracker to go offline.
paperk had already been overseeing a transition of his role to experienced individuals, with the goal of having him step aside completely. His departure came a few months earlier than planned, meaning we couldn't fully complete the transition in time.
As a result, we had to run a donation drive. We quickly met our goal, at which point we were able to bring back IRC, and later the tracker and finally the site itself.
Changes
As a result of the unexpected downtime, we opted to use this opportunity to address some very much needed server upgrades in order to provide a more stable experience going forward.
We've also had some changes in leadership: @alamak will be taking over the Producer chair, with @mewt3x offering significant support to help with day-to-day tasks via the Senior Developer chair.
Both Mew and Ala have spent many long hours working on rebuilding our server infrastructure, so if you see them around please offer them a thank you for their tireless work. Without both of them, we wouldn’t be here today. Also a huge thank you for our IRC services go to DarkSky, for setting up IRC and wrangling together a temporary system to verify users, allowing our community to come back together.
In addition to the above, there will be some more work done behind the scenes to refine some of our internal processes with regards to security, development and redundancy. We will also be addressing some of the lingering issues such as the tracker SSL certificate issues and will shortly be bringing on a new developer to help introduce new site features.

Housekeeping
It's the time of the year again where we're taking care of some housekeeping on the site. This update encompasses a few assorted things which we need to address. You can consider this a Quality of Life update.
A Musical to Last a Lifetime
Unfortunately we have to announce that MusicalMind has had to step down from his role due to lack of time to devote to torrent-related activities. You may have noticed his absence, as it hasn't exactly been a secret he's been very busy with real life matters.
MM has had a large role in helping to revive the site to where it is now via the hiring of staff, as he was the sole administrator of the site for a long period of time. He hired most of the current staff, let us all operate freely, and would reinforce us when the need arose. He's also the person who put me (hi, it's Inclination writing this post) in position to succeed him. In the future, it is likely we will look to add a second administrator to fill his shoes.
Please use this announcement's forum thread to say goodbye to him and tell your favorite MM stories.
Checkers Wanted
We are currently looking to expand and strengthen our torrent checking program.
Our Torrent Checkers https://passthepopcorn.me/static/common/symbols/badge_checker.png are the first line of quality control for torrents on the site. It is their job to control/check that uploaded torrents are in accordance with the upload rules. You must know the rules well and learn quickly. You will be given extensive training so be sure you can be on IRC and be fairly active.
If you would like to apply, send us a Staff PM with the subject "Torrent Checker Application". Tell us a little about your qualifications, as well as your answers to these questions:
· Do you pay close attention to detail?
· Do you have a significant amount of free time to commit and can you stick with it long term (at least 6 months)?
· Are you on any forums that have invite/account trading, giving, selling, or buying?
Donations
As you may have noticed, we are finally ready to start processing donations! As of the time of writing, we only take Monero/XMR as our donation method, and BTC is no longer accepted. We also have a shiny new guide on buying and donating Monero, which you can find here.
To get credit your for your donation during the fundraiser, go to the donation page and enter your transaction ID (64 character hexadecimal string) into the box. If you require assistance for how to find your transaction ID: don't worry, we are at your service. Open a Staff PM, and a member of our team will assist you. Please expect a bit of a wait as at this time, the donation queue is manually processed with plans for it to be automated in the near future.
Additionally, we have removed the perk for invites to be credited for donations. The short of the matter is that we received a large amount of abuse from traders/sellers/giveaways due to this method, so we have made the difficult decision to remove it. As a reminder, invites are still available for higher user classes (details can be found here). For those who made a BTC donation who have someone specific in mind to invite, you have 2 months from the writing of this post to claim your invite. This should be more than enough time for those who have donated to receive their perk.
New Staff Arises
For the eagle eyed among you, you may have noticed a new face on the staff team. On behalf of staff, please join me in welcoming Crios. Their main avenue is torrent management and they are quite experienced with doing so.

We have added some anti-scraping protections into the site as well as officially updated our rules to codify how for many years now we've been enforcing it. We have additionally added some internal protections to help keep an eye on this manner, in an effort to keep the site snappy and quick. This does not target nor affect things like automated cross-seeding tools (please spread the love from here elsewhere ), Radarr, Prowlarr, and Jackett.

Torrent Cleaning Winter Cleaning
To continue the legacy that MusicalMind has left behind with regards to the planned clean-up of old clients, I have adjusted some of the torrent clients and done some winter cleaning. And to be clear, let me get it out of the way: No, we're not removing uTorrent 2.2.1 from the whitelist any time soon.
There may be some noticable hiccups while the whitelist updates for the tracker, but these should be gone within a few hours. If you're getting a notice about your client not being on the whitelist: wait for the tracker to catch up.
How Will This Affect Me?
This will only affect you if you fall into one of the following categories:
1. If you're using a weird alpha/beta/nightly build of qBittorrent from and older version and never updated.
2. If you're using an "Enhanced" build of qBittorrent that does strange behaviors in the swarm (which should never have been allowed to begin with).
3. If you're using a very old client which was removed from the whitelist today. There are only a handful of these, and the combined amount of peers for these clients is ~5,000 or so. For comparison, our rtorrent (a popular seedbox client that has over 1,200,000 active peers currently. This is unlikely to affect the swarms in any noticeable way.)
qBittorrent
There has been some minor reconfiguring of our whitelist for qBittorrent to address some issues with how the old whitelist versions were working (this is to target beta versions and "Enhanced" forks that had previously slipped through the cracks due to how Peer IDs were added to the whitelist). I have also whitelisted 4.6.1. From now on, I will be whitelisting each minor update manually, and the broad whitelisting of the past is not going to be happening going forward. You can usually expect a few day turnaround for me to test and add new versions of the software to the whitelist, provided there are no edge cases/issues to consider.
Removed Clients
The following clients have been removed from the whitelist:
BitTornado 0.3.x
Halite 0.4.0.x
KTorrent 4.3.x
Flud 1.7.x - 1.8.x
qBittorrent older than 4.0.x
