The World Trade Organization (WTO) is built on 5 core principles:
1. Non-Discrimination β Same treatment for all trading partners (Most-Favoured Nation / MFN) and no less favorable treatment for foreign products than domestic ones (National Treatment).
2. Freer Trade β Progressive reduction of trade barriers (tariffs, quotas, subsidies) through negotiated rounds.
3. Predictability / Transparency β Binding, enforceable commitments; members must publish trade policies and notify the WTO of changes so rules are stable and transparent.
4. Promoting Fair Competition β Rules against unfair practices such as dumping and export subsidies; allows anti-dumping and countervailing measures.
5. Benefit for Developing & Least-Developed Countries β Longer transition periods, special/trade preferences, and technical assistance to help them integrate into global trade.
These principles originated under GATT and continue under the WTO as the foundation of the multilateral trading system.

In UPSC GS-3 (Economy & DPI), examiner expectations have shifted to the structural architecture of the financial rails:
β’ Who authenticates the MPIN? (PSP or Remitter Bank?)
β’ Who bears the immediate settlement risk?
β’ Why is NPCI classified as a non-profit company under Section 8?
We deconstructed the complete 4-party architecture into a 1-page unruled handwritten study note.
