The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has shared a new draft rule that could help millions of people who mainly use their phones for calls and SMS, not internet.

Telecom companies will have to offer call + SMS-only packs for all time periods like 28, 56, and 84 days.
These packs must cost less than the usual plans that also include data.
Simply put, users won’t have to pay for internet they don’t use.
This comes after a 2024 rule that didn’t work well, as companies only gave a few long-term options. This time, the aim is clear: give people real choice, fair prices, and plans that fit their needs better.
