Why doesn’t C++ use inheritance between its container classes, like in Java? (for example, having the vector and list classes derive from a common sequence class)

Weekly Newsletter #2021.28

Hi ,

Two big distribution releases this week. Linux Mint 20.2 and Solus 4.3.

There is a new release of Box64 Emulator (it lets you run X64 applications on ARM devices).

No other big news this week.

Open source software highlight of the week is Converseen, a batch image processing tool.

At It's FOSS, we like Swiss-based privacy-focused Proton products. We are using ProtonMail for our @itsfoss.com emails and it's quite good. ProtonVPN is also a nice tool.

Proton recently released the stable version of its GUI client for Linux desktop. Ankush tried it out and shared his experience with ProtonVPN on Linux.

I wrote a tutorial on dual booting Fedora and Windows. It was requested by some readers in the last couple of months.

You probably already know that there are so many Linux distributions and some of them are specially configured for specific purposes.

In that regard, here's a list of Linux distributions specially crafted for children and teachers.

That brings another point. Why are there so many Linux distributions? This question often confuses new Linux users.

I have explained the concept of Linux kernel and distributions with a simple analogy in this article. I know you would like it.

Grub bootloader makes an essential part of most Linux distributions. Not many people know that Grub screen can be customized as well.

Having the basic knowledge of Bash shell always helps. If you are new to it or if you want to refresh your Bash knowledge, you can read this 10-part bash tutorial series on our second website for Linux servers, devops and self-hosting.

May I request something to you? If you are part of Linux forums, Facebook groups, subreddits, Hacker News and other community places, please share the work of It's FOSS and help us grow.

When you come across a helpful It's FOSS article, sharing it with your Linux community will help the members and help us. Win-win!

Speaking of community, do you know that It's FOSS has a community forum?
https://itsfoss.community/

I try to answer to reader's questions in the comment section on the main website but that has limitations. You cannot share screenshots or long outputs. The forum is a better way of seeking support and asking questions to clear your doubts.

You may join the community here.

Have a wonderful day!
