The South African Parents' Action Coalition - opposing draft vaccination requirements for public school admission

On 06 August 2025, the Department of Basic Education gazetted the Admission of Learners to Public Schools Regulations under the South African Schools Act 84 of 1996.

Section 14 of these regulations requires that students provide proof of immunisation in order to be admitted to public schools. In practice, this amounts to a de facto vaccine mandate for children who have no alternative schooling options.

This represents an egregious and unprecedented limitation on parents' rights to make medical and educational decisions in the best interests of their children.

These regulations have received very little publicity, and with the public commentary period ending on 05 September 2025, most parents have not even been made aware of them, let alone had the opportunity to read and respond accordingly.

If, like us, you believe parents should have the freedom to make informed choices for their children, medically and beyond, we urge you to stand with us.

This will require awareness, collective resistance, and, if necessary, legal action.

Extension of commentary period following South African Parents' Action Coalition's request
New deadline: 5 October 2025

The South African Parents' Action Coalition submitted a formal request to the Department of Basic Education last week for an extension of the public commentary period for Notice 3415 of 2025, citing very low public awareness and participation.

Today we received a response indicating that the commentary period has been extended to 5 October 2025.
