The 8K / 4K Tier (Ultra High Definition)

• 8K REMUX: A 1:1 lossless copy of an 8K Blu-ray disc. The highest possible resolution and bitrate currently available.

• UHD REMUX: A 1:1 lossless copy of a 4K UHD Blu-ray disc. "UHD" implies the strict official standard.

• 4K REMUX: Same as UHD REMUX; a lossless container of the 4K disc’s video and audio.

• 4K BluRay: Usually refers to a high-quality encode (compression) of a 4K disc, though sometimes used as a category label.

• 4K BDRip: A compressed file created directly from a 4K Blu-ray disc. Smaller than a REMUX but retains high quality.

• 4K WEB-DL: The raw file downloaded directly from a 4K streaming service (Netflix, Amazon). No re-encoding.

• 4K WEBRip: A screen recording or capture of a 4K stream. Re-encoded, so quality is lower than WEB-DL.

• 4K BRRip: A compressed file created from an already compressed 4K release (e.g., re-encoding a 4K BDRip).

The 1080p Tier (High Definition)

• REMUX: A 1:1 lossless copy of a standard 1080p Blu-ray disc.

• BluRay: A generic term for 1080p content sourced from a disc, usually referring to a high-quality encode.

• BDRip: A compressed file created directly from a 1080p Blu-ray disc. The gold standard for file size vs. quality.

• WEB-DL: The raw file downloaded directly from a 1080p streaming source (iTunes, AMZN). Clean and digital.

• WEBRip: A screen recording or capture of a 1080p stream.

• VODRip: Recorded from a Video-On-Demand service (often cable/hotel inputs). Similar to WEBRip.

• BRRip: A compressed file created from an existing BDRip. (A copy of a copy).

• HDTVRip: A rip captured from a high-def TV broadcast. Often includes channel logos or news tickers.

• HDTV: The raw capture stream from a TV broadcast.

• DVDRip: A copy of a retail DVD (480p/576p). Good quality for SD, but low resolution by modern standards.

• PREDVD: A DVD rip released before the official retail date (often from bootleg imports).

• R5: A specific retail DVD format from Region 5 (Russia/Eastern Europe), released early with lower image processing.

• DVDSCR: "DVD Screener." A promotional DVD sent to critics/voters. High quality but has "For Your Consideration" watermarks.

• SCR: "Screener." Similar to DVDSCR but can be sourced from VHS or digital tokens; always has watermarks.

The "Cam" Tier (Illicit / Low Quality)

• WP: "Workprint." An unfinished version of the film leaked from the studio. Missing effects/audio, often has timers on screen.

• HDTC: "Telecine." A digital copy made by scanning the film reel directly. Rare, high quality, but expensive to produce.

• TC: Standard Telecine (older, lower resolution).

• HDTS: "Telesync." Filmed in a theater with a camera, but the audio is plugged into a direct line (headphone jack). Audio is good; video is bad.

• TS: Standard Telesync.

• HDCAM: Filmed in a theater with a high-def camera, but audio is recorded via the camera microphone (echoey/hollow).

• CAMRip: Filmed in a theater with a standard camera. Poor audio and video.

• CAM: The lowest quality. Shaky camera, audience noise, blurred image.
