India to get its own safe and secure web browser

India is all set to welcome its own web browser, aiming to create an entire Indian digital stack. The winners of the Indian Web Browser Development Challenge (IWBDC) under its Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative were revealed on March 20, 2025. Zoho Corporation secured a ₹1 crore victory while Team PING received ₹75 lakhs and Team Ajna got ₹50 lakhs, with Jio Vishwakarma achieving special recognition.

The browser will be equipped with advanced data security measures alongside compliance with India’s Data Protection Act while supporting multiple Indian languages and offering parental control, CCA India Root certificate trust store and Web3 support. It will work across various platforms, including iOS, Windows, and Android.

Media is too big

5 years of R&D. Live, low-latency (sub-100ms) TDD audio over a cryptographic mesh network. Built on a Rust port of Reticulum, our Kaonic system balances sensitivity, range, and data rate for real-world performance.
This isn’t just another radio module. It’s a fully decentralised, infrastructure-free, and encrypted communications platform. End-to-end cryptography, efficient packet routing, and optimized PHY-layer performance—all packed into a modular form factor.
Designed for tactical operations, emergency response, and autonomous systems. No towers. No satellites. No centralised control. Just pure, resilient, off-grid connectivity.
The future of cryptographic mesh networking is here.

Forgive my dumb question, but all of this patented, right? I don't want to see any bigtech snatch it!

Great question. Thankfully, under international patent law, once an invention or technique is publicly disclosed, it cannot be patented by anyone, including big tech or even the original publisher. That’s actually one of the reasons we’ve chosen to publish it: by putting it in the public domain, we ensure it stays free and accessible. We’re offering the technology as open source for the benefit of humanity.
"Your Signal, Their Data: An Empirical Privacy Analysis of Wireless-scanning SDKs in Android", 2025.

Mobile apps frequently use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and WiFi scanning permissions to discover nearby devices like peripherals and connect to WiFi Access Points (APs). However, wireless inter-faces also serve as a covert proxy for geolocation data, enabling continuous user tracking and profiling. This includes technologies like BLE beacons, which are BLE devices broadcasting unique iden-tifiers to determine devices’

Our findings show that 86% of apps integrating these SDKs collect
at least one sensitive data type, including device and user identi-fiers such as AAID, email, along with GPS coordinates. We uncover widespread SDK-to-SDK data sharing and evidence of ID bridging, where persistent and resettable identifiers are shared and synchronized within SDKs embedded
in applications to potentially construct detailed mobility profiles, compromising user anonymity and enabling long-term tracking

PeerTube 7.1 brings Podcast 2.0 support, enhanced identification and Mastodon verification | AlternativeTo

PeerTubePeerTube has launched version 7.1 of its open-source, decentralized video-sharing platform, introducing a range of new features and improvements. A key update is enhanced platform identification, which now highlights the hosting platform's address for each video. Users can click on this address to learn more about the video's origin and explore all videos hosted on the remote instance.

Version 7.1 also advances its support for #Podcast 2.0, enabling users to subscribe to channels and play video audio streams through traditional podcast applications like #AntennaPod and #Podverse. Additionally, the podcast feed is now compatible with Apple Podcast, broadening accessibility

Oh, and btw., here are Fennec (Firefox for Android, on F-Droid 🙂) about:config settings to configure... flip all to false:

browser.cache.disk_cache_ssl
browser.cache.disk.enabled
datareporting.policy.dataSubmissionEnabled
device.sensors.enabled
dom.battery.enabled
extensions.getAddons.cache.enabled
extensions.htmlaboutaddons.inline-options.enabled
extensions.htmlaboutaddons.recommendations.enabled
media.autoplay.allow-extension-background-pages
media.mediadrm.widevinecdm.visible << fck drm lol
toolkit.telemetry.unified << off by default 🆗

^For example, browser.cache.disk.enabled is super-important to preserve device longevity, loading pages to RAM only😎

P.S.
dom.event.contextmenu.enabled << if you want to preserve your sanity (and "right-click" taps. :))

dom.serviceWorkers.enabled << pro setting, only!..:) Find out whether you will use it; breaks a lot of websites, but it ABSOLUTELY enhances Firefox security to that far beyond any browser... as there isn't anything loaded (see URL: about:serviceworkers), there is nothing to "isolate" thus the advantage of Chrome, Edge browsers is null
