Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Announced
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has been renamed to 8 Elite (SM8750-AB) and it uses custom-ARM instruction set based Oryon CPU cores, ditching the ARM-Cortex.
CPU: Manufactured by TSMC on its 2nd Gen 3nm node
• 2x Prime core @ 4.32GHz
• 6x Performance cores@ 3.53GHz
There is industry's largest 24MB L2 cache & fastest LPDDR5X memory at 5300MHz.
It promises 45% boost in CPU performance in single & multi-threaded benchmarks with 44% improved power efficiency. It delivers up to 162% faster CPU performance vs Intel Core Ultra 7 Series 2 peak at iso-power while requiring 190% LESS power
GPU: New Architecture, the 3 Slices of 12 core Architecture at 1100MHz

BREAKING: ARM Cancels Qualcomm's Chip Design License
ARM has given Qualcomm a mandated 60-day notice of the cancellation of a license that allows Qualcomm to design its own chips based on standards owned by Arm. If the cancellation takes effect, Qualcomm might have to STOP selling products that account for roughly $39 billion in revenue or pay for massive damages.
The current situation traces its roots to a legal dispute from 2022 when ARM filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm after it acquired Nuvia. Arm claims that Qualcomm failed to renegotiate the ALA terms post-acquisition & is demanding the destruction of Nuvia's designs that were created before the Nuvia acquisition. They can’t be transferred to Qualcomm without permission.
Qualcomm, however, argues that its existing Arm architecture license already covers Nuvia's work. That said, Qualcomm accuses Arm of anti-competitive misconduct. The trial is set to begin in December 2024 & both the companies are confident of their win.
