Australia’s ban on social media for kids is stupid and an example of government creep and further mass surveillance.

The government has no business trying to be parents and interfering in family life.

If you don’t want your kids on social media, then be better parents.

Microsoft has filed a patent for "IN_EAR AUTHENTICATION," a technology that integrates biometric identification into headphones, perhaps Surface Buds. The system aims to prevent theft and serve as a method of authenticating users on Windows devices. It employs specialized sensors to capture unique physiological traits, including the shape of the ear canal through pressure measurements, sound reflection patterns within the ear, and blood flow characteristics such as heart rate and blood volume changes.

Upon removal from their case, the headphones automatically connect to a Windows 11 device and compare the collected biometric data against stored user profiles. If the system verifies a match, it unlocks the device and applies personalized audio settings, enabling immediate access to user-specific content. The patent outlines the technical framework for this authentication process but does not guarantee the product’s commercial release.

Here are four additional features in Google's big Android 16 QPR2 update that you may have missed!

#1 and #2 I covered in separate articles, but #3-4 I haven't mentioned before!

1) Circle to Search now works in Desktop Mode. I covered this separately, but you can now use Circle to Search on external displays in QPR2, not just your phone's internal one.

2) Redesigned sideloading UI. The UI that you see when sideloading an app has been updated with some Material 3 design elements.

3) Sharing images with links. When you share a screenshot of an app that supports Android's recents URL sharing feature, you'll have the option to attach a link to the post, too.

We spotted this in the 2508 Canary release but it's now available in QPR2! (H/T GreenShades9 on X)

4) External display preferences: When you connect your phone to an external display, Android now asks whether you want to simply mirror your phone’s screen or extend it (i.e. start Desktop Mode).

Android 16 QPR2 has a LOT of other new features and changes in it. Check out my full breakdown over on Android Authority👇

🔗Here’s how Google and Apple could improve Android-iPhone data transfers

Improved cross-platform data transfers will be really helpful in getting people onboarded with their new devices. Glad to see Google and Apple partner on this!

By the way, this seems to have flown under the radar, but both companies also recently implemented cross-platform eSIM transfer.

We first spotted evidence of this back in May, but it seems to have quietly gone live without much fanfare.
