https://archive.is/bOOUY "Google plans to roll out its Gemini artificial intelligence chatbot next week for children under 13 who have parent-managed Google accounts, as tech companies vie to attract young users with A.I. products.
“Gemini Apps will soon be available for your child,” the company said in an email this week to the parent of an 8-year-old. “That means your child will be able to use Gemini” to ask questions, get homework help and make up stories.
The chatbot will be available to children whose parents use Family Link, a Google service that enables families to set up Gmail and opt into services like YouTube for their child. To sign up for a child account, parents provide the tech company with personal data like their child’s name and birth date.
Gemini has specific guardrails for younger users to hinder the chatbot from producing certain unsafe content, said Karl Ryan, a Google spokesman. When a child with a Family Link account uses Gemini, he added, the company will not use that data to train its A.I."

Two threat groups, Reckless Rabbit & Ruthless Rabbit, are scamming thousands using AI deepfakes, celebrity endorsements, and fake investment sites via Facebook ads.

Victims? Lured in, validated, then drained.

Meanwhile, Facebook ad slots are being flooded with “mystery box” clearance scams for $2 Apple products — but the only surprise is recurring charges and stolen data.

Read. Verify. Warn others. | Full story ➝ https://thehackernews.com/2025/05/new-investment-scams-use-facebook-ads.html

Opera is rolling out a big update to its Android browser app that brings major tab management upgrades!

Opera v89 for Android adds:

- Three tab gallery layouts (carousel, grid, list)
- Tab Islands (basically tab groups)
- Tab search support
- Tab reopening
- Tab muting

These features have been in the beta version for a few weeks now, but they should now be available to everyone after updating.

(Disclaimer: Opera invited me to Lisbon last month to attend their Browser Days event. This was one of several announcements they previewed for me, but I'm not obligated to cover it.

I'm personally surprised the Android browser didn't have these features already, especially since it's been ahead of Chrome in many other ways!)
🔋Google has confirmed that only the Pixel 9 series Pixel 8a will show Battery Health info!

The Battery Health menu was added in Android 16 Beta 3 for Pixel and shows your phone's remaining battery capacity as a %.

More details👇

Edit: Just to be clear: This likely isn't Google imposing some arbitrary limitation.

It's likely the Pixel 8a is the first phone with hardware support in the battery/charging IC to actually report the state-of-charge to the OS.

There are ways to estimate the capacity via software, but they wouldn't be as accurate.
🥷 Google is working on an "Intrustion Detection" feature for Android 16

This feature collects various device events for off-device investigation of potential device compromise.

More details on what info is collected👇

(I've been tracking this one for a while (back when it was called "forensic service"), but there wasn't enough info for me to report on it. Fortunately, the latest Play Services update gave AssembleDebug enough details to go ahead.)
