Qualcomm just announced that its Snapdragon 8 Elite platform will be supported for "up to eight consecutive years of Android software and security updates."
"
The company worked with Google on this new program, which also extends to the next five generations of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 and 7-series mobile platforms. It's up to OEMs to take advantage of this program, though meaning 7 years of updates isn't guaranteed for any given device.
FYI: I detailed this new program (called Longevity GRF) in full back in October, in case you want to read more about what Google and Qualcomm have done.
"
What this means is that support for platform software included in this program will be made available to OEMs for eight consecutive years, including both Android OS and kernel upgrades, without requiring significant changes or upgrades to the platform and OEM code on the device (a separation commonly referred as βProject Trebleβ or the βvendor implementationβ). While kernel changes will require updating kernel mode drivers, the vendor code can remain unchanged while the software support is being provided. This software support can lower costs for OEMs interested in supporting their devices longer and can show consumers the advantages of Snapdragon mobile processors and software support."The company worked with Google on this new program, which also extends to the next five generations of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 and 7-series mobile platforms. Do we really need mass-internet technology that goes beyond 1Gbit/s?
IEEE Spectrum's article dives into the current status and affairs of the mobile data scenario. Upon looking into it deeply, not more than 40Mbit/s is required by an average mobile data user at a time. With 5G already hitting 500Mbit/s+, IEEE expects 6G to not just focus on the bandwidth benefits, but something more.

Apple TV app is now up for Android Mobile devices
After Apple thought they had enough of gatekeeping their streaming service, Apple TV is finally available for Android Mobile devices after being up for Android TVs for ages. Apple TV has had nice shows and stuff for a long while for mostly a low subscription price (at least in India) making this move crucial for a more widespread user base after the Lossless update for Apple Music on Android. Still waiting for Apple Music on Android TV, wonder when that'll happen.

Syria just hosted its first international tech conference in 50 years
While everyone was busy on Middle East, Syria just conducted their first-in-50-years tech conference with multiple Silicon Valley leaders.
Even though Syria has a shortage of basic amenities: Electricity is in short supply, the internet is slow, and the telecom infrastructure is outdated, the government seems to change within a few years in regards of this.
This comes after the fall of the escape of Assad from Syria.

DeepSeek Boosts Chinese Chipmakers in AI Race Against Nvidia
Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has created models that make AI processing more efficient, reducing the need for expensive, high-performance chips. This development is a boost for Chinese chipmakers like Huawei, helping them compete with U.S. giants like Nvidia, which dominates the AI chip market.
Several Chinese companies, including Huawei, Hygon, EnFlame, Tsingmicro, and Moore Threads, have started using DeepSeekβs technology. By improving AI efficiency, these companies aim to expand AI applications in China despite restrictions on advanced U.S. chips.
While DeepSeekβs innovation helps China make progress in AI development, Nvidia remains the global leader in AI chip technology.

Nintendo Switch 2 prices MIGHT be leaked online!
Recently, a picture with the text "Nintendo Switch place holder" was leaked by a Costco employee with a tag of 499 Canadian Dollar (converted to around 399 USD).
Some people believe this is the price, others believe it's not. But considering that it is, I'd just like to remind everyone that there might be different SKUs or Models (like OLED edition) as well which might cost more or less, so be ready for any differences.

AMD's new RX 9070 XT is rumoured to have 32GB of VRAM!
Yeah, you heard that right. Rumours say that RX 9070 XT will feature 32GB of GDDR6 VRAM. On Chiphell, as leaked by a chinese leaker by the name of zhangzhonghao has said that the GPU will use the standard Navi 48 GPU Core design, but instead of 16GB of VRAM, it'll have 32.
This will probably make the GPU be a double sided PCB board. Both, front and back sides will have circuits.
Oh god, we're getting commercial grade 32gb vram GPUs now. We're cooked.

A PlayStation 3 emulator..... on ANDROID?!?!
Seems like SOME PS 3 era games on Android are a possibility now. A chinese developer named Aenu released a PS 3 emulator named aPS3e on Android. This emulator is very barebones at the moment, Giving only a menu listing library. Compatibility is also very limited, none of the flagship PS 3 titles work, but Limbo and Terraria do work.
The app requires Android 7 and above with Vulkan support. Other than that, yeah, it works. Remember though, it's very barebones at the moment, but ey at least PS 3 emulation on Android moved forward!!

Open Sue! OBS Studio Threatens Fedora With Legal Action
The OBS Studio team has threatened legal action against Fedora due to an unofficial OBS Studio Flatpak distributed by Fedora. This Flatpak has been poorly maintained, causing confusion among users who mistakenly report issues to OBS developers, thinking they are using the official version. As a result, OBS lead Joel Bethke has demanded that Fedora remove all OBS branding from the Flatpak by February 21, 2025, or face potential legal consequences.
In response, Fedora contributor Neal Gompa has started the process of removing the problematic Flatpak from Fedora's repository. This move aims to prevent further confusion and ensure that users rely on officially supported versions of OBS Studio.

Amazonβs killing a feature that let you download and backup Kindle books
Starting February 26, 2025, Amazon will discontinue the "Download & Transfer via USB" feature, which allows users to download purchased Kindle books to a computer for manual transfer to a Kindle device. Its removal raises concerns about the ability to maintain offline copies, especially given past instances where Amazon has remotely deleted or altered content on users' devices.
Books downloaded through this feature are delivered in the older AZW3 format, which allows easier DRM removal and conversion to other formats. Modern Kindles, however, use the more DRM-restrictive KFX format, making manual book handling increasingly difficult.
