Xiaomi may shut down bootloader unlocking in global markets

X user Chun Bhai dropped a bombshell by claiming that Xiaomi is looking to kill off its bootloader unlocking program outside mainland China by 2025.

In his post, he said, “Unrelated news but I hear that Xiaomi is planning to shut down the unlock bootloader program for their global users next year following the closure in China last month.”

Xiaomi’s decision to end bootloader unlocking in China could hint at a broader pivot in its software policies. In China, new regulations may force technology firms to be more controlling regarding user data and device security.
