Windows 11 24H2 rollout has been delayed.... yet again!

Microsoft has again delayed roll-out for the "long awaited" 24H2 release because now AutoHDR has issues with colours. Seems small enough? Well, in some devices, audio is broken and there's NO workaround.

Microsoft confirmed that all audio output devices, including internal speakers, bluetooth, headset, etc are broken entirely. It was found that all devices that use Dirac Audio with the cridspapo.dll file had this problem. Meanwhile, if you haven't updated to Windows 11 24H2 yet, you'll no longer see the notification to update due to compatibility hold.

Yet another Windows L, sigh.

Google is rolling out the "Ask about this PDF" feature it announced at I/O!

When you open a PDF file using the Files by Google app and invoke Gemini on it, you'll soon see an "ask about this PDF" chip above the overlay. If you tap this chip, you can then ask Gemini questions about the doc.

Your device must run Android 15 and you must be subscribed to Gemini Advanced to use this feature. You also need to set Gemini as your assistant, obviously.

Thanks to Rob on my Discord for the screenshot!

RIP x86S, Intel terminates the initiative to debloat x86 instruction set
Tom's Hardware

Intel originally announced its intentions to de-bloat the x86 instruction set by developing a simplified 64-bit mode-only x86S version, publishing a draft specification in May 2023, and then updating it to a 1.2 revision in June of this year. But now, Intel is no longer working on the x86S specification, thus putting an end to the quest.

The decision comes after Intel announced the formation of the x86 Ecosystem Advisory Group, which brings together Intel, AMD, Google, and numerous other industry stalwarts to define the future of the x86 instruction set.

Intel also has other future-looking x86 initiatives underway, such as its Flexible Return and Event Delivery (FRED) and the new AVX10 spec. Intel has confirmed that those initiatives are still underway.
