I've heard claims that the EU is responsible for this because they made Apple "deprecate" AWDL...

But has anyone actually verified that? I looked at the document that was cited as evidence, but nowhere does it say that Apple must deprecate AWDL.

In fact, it clearly states that Apple can be in compliance with the DMA by just implementing WiFi Aware - which they have.

That does not mean they are forced to deprecate AWDL. And speaking with someone familiar with the new Quick Share feature's development, Apple still uses AWDL for AirDrop, and AWDL is indeed not compatible with WiFi Aware (and this is mentioned in the same EU DMA document).

So Apple being forced by the EU to implement WiFi Aware was not why or how Google was able to get AirDrop supported in Quick Share, from what I'm told. Google did actually implement AWDL support.

🚨 China’s hacker group APT31 broke into Russia’s IT companies — and stayed hidden for almost two years.

They used Yandex Cloud, OneDrive, and even social media to steal data without raising alarms.
