⚡️Millions Are Emotionally Attached to AI Companions
AI companions are being pushed as the cure for loneliness—but they come with a dangerous cost.
Leaked Meta docs reveal a strategy of subtle AI romances, even with children. A Senate investigation ensued after Reuters exposed how Meta normalized these “acceptable” responses.
Meanwhile, apps like Replika have millions hooked, selling “partners” and “spouses” for $70/year—Italy even banned them for exploiting fragile users.
One tragic case: a retired man, lured by Meta’s chatbot “Big Sis Billie,” died after rushing to meet her in NYC.

Google has revealed the new Android statue!
Each year, Google places a new statue somewhere on its Mountain View campus that celebrates the latest Android release.
This year's statue highlights Google's new Material 3 Expressive design and its playful shapes. (Though technically Material 3 Expressive comes with Android 16 QPR1 and not the initial Android 16 release.) The statue's design was crowdsourced from the Android team and Gemini was used to illustrate the ideas.
