🚨 Attackers are hitting SonicWall firewalls again—but it’s not a new zero-day.
Turns out, they’re exploiting a known bug (CVE-2024-40766) and weak password hygiene.
Migrating from Gen 6 to Gen 7 without resets? That’s leaving doors wide open.

ANNOUNCEMENT: New Software, New Group!
[DON’T FORGET WE JUST OPENED A NEW GROUP! SEE OUR PINNED MESSAGE FROM YESTERDAY!]
microG GMSCore v0.3.9.250932 v0.3.8.250932 has been released on 2025-07-24.
* This has been flagged as a PRERELEASE (beta) version prior to official release.
THAT MEANS IT COULD CONTAIN SERIOUS BUGS!
READ THAT AGAIN!
IF YOU ARE NOT OK WITH THIS DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE. If no serious bugs are found, this should transition to “release” status within a week or so.
We will NOT help people troubleshoot beta/pre-release versions of microG. Do not ask for solutions to problems here that you may have when installing such "pre-release” versions of microG.
If you would like to help the developers track down the source of new bugs, feel free to ask us how to use the microG Github page for that.
Since the microG website is offline at the moment, in order to install this software you will need to manually download the components from the microG Github. It will not be available through microg-dot-org or the F-droid repo until the microg-dot-org website is back online.

UPDATING:
SEE THE SPECIAL NOTICE AT THE TOP OF THIS DOC RE: THE CURRENT STATUS OF THE MICROG WEBSITE AND F-DROID REPO!
You can also update microG on an existing installation by downloading the new APK from the official microG Github download page or website, and install it like any other standalone APK.
REMEMBER THAT THERE ARE TWO MAIN MICROG COMPONENTS: GmsCore and microG Companion. Always update both together (GmsCore FIRST), and ensure the version numbers match.
If you use a ROM which bundles microG and the above update methods do not work, you may have to wait for your ROM to update to the new microG version. Ask your ROM developer.
For new installs, the 3rd-party installer bundles will be updated as per each developer's workflow.

Here’s the stories for the week:
Monero Attack Update: We passed the date of the attack and I think it surprised everyone involved. Now we’re in uncharted territory, a war of attrition. Learn what’s going on.
EU Age Verification Forces Google On Its Citizens: The EU just released an open-source age verification app that’s supposed to be private. Only one problem - it forces use of Google services. Developers are pissed. This could impact the future of degoogled phones. Tune in.
AGPL Is Not FOSS - The AGPL license is commonly used in open-source projects, but it imposes a requirement on its users. Is it actually FOSS?
Inventor of Plastoline Missing - 21 year old inventor Julian Brown turned plastic into gasoline, in his backyard. Now he may be in danger. We’ll look into his work and whether we can turn plastic into fuel.
Solution: Get more productive with SuperProductivity
🪄 We aim for our show to be well-researched, well-informed and focused on the most impactful stories all in 20 minutes (ain’t nobody got more time than that)
