Question on AdAway.
Hello all. I have 2 questions regarding using AdAway. I run LineageOS with Magisk and use AdAway in root mode. I also isolate apps like Instagram and Reddit with Shelter on my work profile.
My questions are:
1. Is AdAway good to block trackers outside of ads? Should I add any lists like in ublock origin?
2. Will AdAway block ads (and trackers?) in my work profile?

Bitwarden or Yubico Authenticator as 2FA?
Hey there, I wanted to ask if using Bitwarden or Yubico Authenticator as a 2FA app would be a good idea.
People already know Bitwarden, and I wanted to know what people think about using it as a 2FA app, since it actually has that feature.
There's also Yubico Authenticator, which is only accessible by using a Yubikey. Problem with that is that it's closed source.
Another alternative is that you could use Bitwarden in a combination with a Yubikey as 2FA, and store Bitwarden's 2FA code in something like Aegis or Ravio (or maybe even print the QR code or something). What do you guys think?

How we can easily help russian activist to access TOR securely (Snowflake-Addon)
german Version on my profile, we have no good Subreddits to legally post this, so its a bit useless
## Censorship
Evaluating Protonmails "***Digital Freedom Index***", as well as this estimation on Statista, Russia has very bad digital freedom and rights.
Political Activists around the world, but especially in Russia at the moment, will use TOR, so get uncensored news and connect to "unwanted sites" securely. TOR is an important tool.
Without talking too much about the technical aspects of TOR (more Info on their official website), there is one big thing we can do.
## Snowflake and Tor-Proxies
I will leave out all the explanations about TOR, as this is a privacy subreddit.
But the main point is, that TOR is safe, but Governments can see that you connect to TOR-Entry Nodes, which can endanger people that live under such regiments.
Snowflake is a very easy-to-use Proxy, as it uses WebRTC to use your Browser as a TOR-Proxy.
(If you use Firefox with Arkenfox-user.js, you have to setup a new Profile (about:profiles), where WebRTC is enabled. This is not very secure, so maybe use a custom Arkenfox-user.js were just WebRTC is enabled)
You just install the Addon on Firefox or Google Chrome and people can use your Browser as a proxy.
### A rough explanation of how it works
1. The endangered user goes into TOR-Settings and sets "Snowflake" as the Proxy
2. Their TOR-Browser contacts a "Broker"
3. The Broker connects to your browser, sending a request if you are available to be a proxy
4. Your Browser sends a "yes" or "no" to the Broker
5. Over WebRTC the endangered User can now use your Browser as a Snowflake Proxy
Without endangering you you can contribute to the TOR-Network. You can toggle the Proxy on and off, and I would recommend using a second profile.

Sorry this post is kind of low effort...
I invested quite some time in the german one, I can post a quick explanation of the TOR network in english here too, but not today.
Of course TOR is difficult, as you have no Idea who is using your node or your Snowflake-Proxy. But among the 30 or so people that used mine in the past 2 days, if there was one russian activist, it was worth it.

How safe is SSD encryption data recovery wise?
Recently I've got a new laptop from my company. I'm required to return the old one when I decide to quit, but before that, I can use it as my own if I want to. "Old" one is quite good tho, way better than my own, so I installed both Linux and Win on it for dual boot. Both OSes are partition encrypted, Linux with LUKS and Win with Veracrypt.
My question is, how safe is my data on it regarding recovery? The company is quite big one, so I know they are sending the old equipment out of the country, probably for refurbishment, and I wouldn't want someone to be able to recover my data. I'm aware that the best answer is "don't use it at all", but my current budget is a bit slim and I'm from a country which generally has a bit pricey hardware, unfortunately.

Network level privacy – history, information, and action - Opt-Out
# Network level privacy – history, information, and action - Opt-Out

One area I haven’t found on Privacy Guides is network level privacy. By this I mean what most of us use to connect to the internet - landline ISP and mobile ISP. You can’t really enjoy the web without an ISP - unless you like hanging around the library (which I do), wardriving, or somehow feel comfortable doing personal stuff on your employers network.

Privacy Guides mentions a VPN can provide, “additional privacy from your ISP” and of course there is TOR/Orbot for device level privacy. On landline, unless router level VPN is used devices like IOT or smart home are leaking a stream of information directly tied to our ISP account.

# Why would we want “additional privacy” from our ISP?

Thanks to Ajit Pai ISPs have broad latitude to collect and sell data on everything going through their pipes.
This Wired story does a good job describing the situation and the history behind it.
A recent report by The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) found that the six largest ISPs “collect and monetize far more user data than you’d think”.

# Is it possible to achieve privacy more directly, at a deeper layer, from our ISPs before even considering VPN/TOR? I think so! BUT it isn’t necessarily easy and it isn’t really a technology based solution…

This post introduces how to opt-out of your ISP's data collection.

Implied in the above post is that opting-out of data collection is kind of a patchwork mess! ISPs often make statements like, “We value your privacy and take it seriously” on their homepage or FAQ. This sounds comforting, but is often really just PR lip service. To find out what they really do with your private information you need to dig deeper and look at their Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions (Sometimes called Terms of Service, etc). You’ll find these at the very bottom of their website in small print (the website’s footer so it should appear on every page of the site).
Privacy Policies are not required everywhere in the US, but in practice everyone has one. Terms and Conditions are required as this is the legal, enforceable agreement we enter into use the ISP service.

EU has strong privacy protections in GDPR. I'm sharing my experience, so it's US specific. If you’re in the EU what is your workflow/experience? If you’re outside EU, US – please share your country/location’s privacy safeguards and consider encouraging your representatives to become more privacy aware!

In US, California has the strongest privacy protecting regulations in the US in CalOPPA, CCPA, and the still being implemented CPRA. These regulations technically only provide privacy guarantees to California residents. There are considerations if a business is required to comply with CCPA, e.g. small business and non-profits have less/no obligation in an effort to make the regulations less onerous. However! due California’s large population,
