Suspects can refuse to provide phone passcodes to police, court rules
Phone-unlocking case law is "total mess," may be ripe for Supreme Court review.

Google will be changing the way it handles location data so that it's no longer possible to provide location data for warrents.
This is good for us as it will now be harder for feds to unconstitutionally track your every move.

Is This the End of Geofence Warrants?
Google announced this week that it will be making several important changes to the way it handles users’ “Location History” data. These changes would appear to make it much more difficult—if not

This is making the rounds in conservative circles, with the claim that T-Mobile will begin fining users for SHAFT (Sex, Hate, Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco) Code of Conduct violations on its network beginning on January 1. But from what I can tell, this is primarily a notice to marketers who send spam texts, etc.

Not that T-Mobile's Code of Conduct doesn't apply to all users, but it seems unlikely they will enforce it on private/non-commercial users.
Keep in mind, though, that Tranny-Mobile gets a breach about as often as LastPass does. Spicy conversations should never be had over text messages anyway; they're as private as an email or a postcard.

BREAKING: BTC Miners and ETH Validators to Fellate OFAC and FinCEN Forever
We all know Bitcoin and Ethereum use a public ledger, making it easy to track transactions (compared to choices like Monero). Proactively blocking transactions from addresses on Uncle Samuel's naughty list raises further concerns about the viability of freely transacting using these crypto-currencies.
Then again, most people only care about "number go up" and have no interest in establishing a parallel economy (as Bitcoin was intended to be from the beginning). While BTC and ETH are likely to increase in price, they're also heavily centralized and will cater to U.S. regulators' demands.

Bitcoin faces risk of protocol-level censorship as miners under increasing regulatory pressure
Major mining pools filtering transactions from sanctioned addresses would mean a whole new era for Bitcoin, with protocol-level censorship.

💬 After USA TODAY investigation, military finally releases internal extremism report
• The report says extremism appears to be becoming more common in the military.
“The participation in violent extremist activities of even a small number of individuals with military connections and military training could present a risk to the military and to the country as a whole,” it says.
• The military’s security clearance process doesn’t take domestic extremism into account.
“DOD’s processes for awarding security clearances, assessing suitability, and granting access to facilities still focus to a significant extent on Cold War threats and threats related to the Global War on Terrorism rather than the threat of home-grown extremism.”
